Abstract

The phenomenon of populism emerged in contemporary politics in the era of global democracy, including Indonesia, with the trigger being the economic and political crisis. Populism has a positive meaning in (liberal) democracy by placing antagonistic discourse to fight for the values of justice, equality, prosperity, and fairness for the populus which reveals the corruption of the other, the political and business elite in the sceptre (power) of the oligarchy. Populist actors move dynamically and flexibly in the name of the populus as the spectre of the oligarchy by carrying out propaganda of resistance against the sceptre which is corrupt, oligarchic, and oppressive to the people. They fight for the improvement of the people's fate and play an antagonistic role against the oligarchic elite, corruption, globalization with its neo-liberalism. However, populism has a negative meaning as an effort to find a vehicle and entry ticket as a new player in the oligarchy, so that populism becomes rhetoric for efforts to seize power because it was born as part of the oligarchy vortex. That is the purpose of this writing with a critical study as a political philosophy approach using a qualitative explanatory method to examine the changes in the term populism since its emergence as a form of opposition to oligarchic power in (liberal) democracy whose boundaries are no longer clear. Populism can be a transformative force in Indonesia with an antagonistic role against the increasingly strong oligarchic power. However, it failed as an antagonistic anti-status quo and emancipatory force because it also perpetuated the sceptre of corrupt and greedy oligarchy, even forming a final identity as a shadow democratic power, instead of becoming the spectre of oligarchic power.

Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to analyze the effect of the work environment on employee job satisfaction, with nationalist leadership as a mediating variable in companies operating in the general trade and service sectors in Bandung City. The research background stems from the high employee turnover rate, which indicates low job satisfaction, despite companies providing physical facilities and work flexibility. This study uses a quantitative approach with Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) through AMOS 24.0 software. Data were collected from 200 employee respondents working at four companies using a digital questionnaire. The results show that the work environment has a positive and significant effect on employee job satisfaction, although the strength of this effect is not very strong. Furthermore, the work environment also has a moderately strong influence on nationalist leadership, and nationalist leadership has a significant and strong effect on job satisfaction. Nationalist leadership also serves as a significant mediating variable that strengthens the influence of the work environment on employee job satisfaction. These findings highlight the critical role of leaders in embedding national values within organizations as a strategic effort to increase employee loyalty and retention. This study offers a conceptual contribution to developing a value-based leadership style rooted in nationalism within modern human resource management practices. Keywords: Work environment, nationalist leadership, job satisfaction, turnover

Abstract

The rapid digitalization of society presents both opportunities and challenges for cultivating nationalism among younger generations. Traditional expressions of nationalism often fail to resonate with digital natives, requiring more adaptive and participatory approaches. This study aims to explore how a mobile application, e-Nasionalis, can be utilized to strengthen civic values and digital nationalism among Indonesian youth. Employing a mixed-methods approach, the research integrates the development and limited testing of the application with user feedback analysis from 60 participants, including students, university youth, and digital community members. Features of the app include civic education modules, daily acts of nationalism, and a hoax reporting tool. Quantitative data showed a high level of user engagement and satisfaction, while qualitative insights revealed positive changes in users’ understanding and practice of nationalism in everyday digital life. The findings suggest that the integration of information technology and political education can provide innovative civic learning platforms that are relevant, engaging, and impactful in the context of Society 5.0.

Abstract

Materialism has taken root in the souls of modern agents. The irony is that in difficult living conditions, they are reluctant to admit that they are difficult. Hedonistic and have a life view that is contrary to the spirit and soul of the nation. For some people who apply this understanding, materialism is the main view. So, whatever they do must end in material. Without material, every activity will not run. Likewise, their concern for others has diminished. Sadly, this reality has been going on for decades and has not been a concern for previous leaders. So in this context, the Governor of West Java, Dedi Mulyadi, appeared by deconstructing the understanding that had long infiltrated the national ideology. Based on these conditions, the study aims to determine Dedi Mulyadi's steps in re-establishing local wisdom values as a form of deconstruction of the materialist understanding that has infected the nation's citizens. Using a qualitative approach with a type of content analysis method, this study emphasizes data sourced from Dedi Mulyadi's content that is widely spread on online networks. The results show that Dedi Mulyadi's concrete steps are able to make people aware of the true nature and identity of this nation.

Abstract

The complexity of global developments also affects the life of the nation. The power spread by the two main axes of the world can change the orientation that becomes the commitment and ideals of the nation. From the beginning, it was determined to form a character that is a characteristic of national nature but changed course and headed towards one of the axes that were competing for influence. This condition was experienced by Indonesia when the world constellation changed and created a transitional situation before a new power emerged. Indonesia's direction towards a particular axis had disturbed the psychological mentality of the nation's children because the life of the nation and state had deviated from the ideals. However, because of the strong awareness and spirit of nationalism, the direction that had changed finally returned to the true characteristics and nature of the nation. Based on these conditions, this study aims to determine the psychological dimension in forming national character. The method used is descriptive qualitative with literature methods. The results of the study show that the formation of national character must take into account the psychological dimension in order to raise awareness of identity and pride in one's own nation. Another interest is that generations who are aware of their national spirit will be a reminder when the nation's leaders take steps by directing themselves to one of the world powers that is different from the national vision.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of news consumption on citizen engagement through political communication mediation, using a quantitative approach and explanatory design. The main variables studied include news consumption (KBE), political communication (consisting of political issue concern/KIP and frequency of political communication/FKP), and citizen engagement as measured by citizen self-confidence (KDW), future involvement interest (MKM), and actions to promote important issues (MIP). Data were collected through an online survey involving 103 students in Bandung City. The analysis was conducted using Structural Equation Modeling based on Partial Least Squares (PLS-SEM) to evaluate direct and indirect relationships between variables. The results of the study showed that news consumption had a positive and significant effect on political issue concern (β = 0.460, p < 0.001) and frequency of political communication (β = 0.212, p = 0.007). Furthermore, political communication proved to be a significant mediator in bridging the influence of news consumption on citizen involvement. FKP had a positive effect on KDW (β = 0.382, p < 0.001) and MIP (β = 0.308, p < 0.001), while KDW was an important predictor for MKM (β = 0.522, p < 0.001) and MIP (β = 0.199, p = 0.007). Various indirect effect pathways also showed statistical significance, confirming the important role of political communication as a mediating mechanism. These findings underscore the importance of media literacy in increasing student political participation in the digital era.

Abstract

The authenticity of a nation is identified through one of the most fundamental instruments. Its authentic form is stated in the form of a signature. This short stroke that symbolizes personal identity is a unique form that is unique and only owned by each citizen of the nation. Along with the development of the era, the affixing of signatures on a digital basis has become an obstacle, considering the differences in the platforms used, in other words, initially the affixing of signatures using manual-conventional methods must now switch to digital form. Along with this, this study aims to determine the implementation of digital signatures in electronic documents to guarantee authenticity, data integrity, and non-repudiation in electronic transactions. Through a cryptographic approach, especially asymmetric encryption and one-way hash functions such as SHA and MD5, digital signatures function as legal evidence to replace manual signatures in digital communication. The method used is qualitative-descriptive with a literature study approach and theoretical study. The results show that digital signatures are not only more secure than manual signatures, but also increase efficiency and legal certainty in digital documentation systems.
