Abstract

In 2022, based on data from the National Waste Management Information System (SIPSN) and the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), Indonesia produced around 19.45 million tons of waste. The increase in waste continues with the increasing population and community consumption. The waste management program at the elementary school level aims to increase student awareness of waste reduction, environmental conservation, and participation in recycling practices. Socialization is carried out through material presentations, recycling practices, and interactive Q&A, with a focus on the role of individuals in protecting the environment. This program took place at SD Desa Sumberejo, Madiun District, Madiun Regency, and involved students in organic and inorganic waste sorting activities. The results of the activities showed an increase in students' understanding of the concept of recycling and their motivation to take real action, such as managing waste independently. The high enthusiasm from students and the positive response from the school showed the success of the socialization. However, the effectiveness of long-term behavioral change was measured through post-program surveys and follow-up observations that showed an increase in waste sorting in the school environment as an indicator of the program's sustainability.

Abstract

Based on the latest data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) in 2023, around 60.12% of the Indonesian workforce works in the informal sector, indicating the dominance of this sector in the national economy. However, in urban areas, informal sector economic activities, especially street vendors (PKL), often face various challenges that require structured solutions. One of the main problems street vendors face in Bantul Regency is limited business capital, which causes them to be trapped in loan shark loans that are not per Sharia principles. This study aims to analyze the role of the Indonesian Street Vendors Association of Struggle (APKLI-P) in empowering street vendors in Bantul Regency from a sharia economic perspective. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method at the DPD APKLI-P Bantul Regency. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews with 20 street vendor members, and documentation of empowerment programs carried out by APKLI-P. The data obtained were analyzed using source triangulation to ensure the validity of the research results. The findings show that APKLI-P has implemented various empowerment programs, such as developing culinary areas, providing business opportunities through local events, managing multi-purpose cooperatives, and providing halal certification. The impact of this program is measured through increased income, access to new business opportunities, and significant improvements in the welfare of street vendors. This study also highlights how the application of Islamic economic principles by APKLI-P has succeeded in strengthening social solidarity and creating equality and justice in society. However, this study has limitations in terms of generalizing the findings to other regions, and further research is recommended to test the effectiveness of this empowerment model in different regional contexts.

Abstract

Access to clean water is an essential aspect of a healthy society, as physical and mental well-being cannot be achieved without it. Despite its importance, many water sources are contaminated by household, industrial, and agricultural waste. To address the issue of clean water availability in the region, this community service program aimed to educate and empower residents of Gampang Sejati Village through the implementation of a simple water filtration method using Bengawan Solo River water. The program involved training, socialization, practical application, and evaluation. The primary objective was to equip the community with the knowledge and skills to create and use basic filtration systems that meet health and hygiene standards. A total of 25 community representatives participated in the training sessions, which included technical demonstrations, material introductions, and hands-on practice. Evaluation methods included post-training assessments to measure the effectiveness of knowledge transfer and community feedback. To ensure sustainability, the program proposed forming community groups to oversee the maintenance and improvement of the filtration systems. This initiative aims to provide a long-term solution to water contamination while fostering community responsibility for clean water management. This structured approach not only addressed immediate water filtration needs but also emphasized the importance of continuous education and local engagement for sustainable impacts.
