Abstract

GRADSTEIN, R. et al. 2010. Bryophytes of Mount Patuha, West Java, Indonesia. Reinwardtia 13(2): 107-123. - This paper presents the results of a two-day survey of the bryophyte flora of Mt. Patuha and its surroundings near Bandung, West Java, carried out in the framework of the 5th regional training course on bryophyte and lichen diversity and conservation organized by SEAMEO BIOTROP, Bogor, in July 2009. A total of 159 bryophyte species were identified, including 98 mosses, 60 liverworts, and 1 hornwort, representing almost 1/6 of the total bryophyte flora of Java. Three moss species, Bryohumbertia subcomosa (Dix.) J.-P. Frahm, Fissidens gymnogynus Besch. and F. polypodioides Hedw., and one liverwort, Lejeunea pectinella Mizut., are new additions to the Javanese flora. The bryophyte diversity of Mt. Patuha is well representative of the Malesian flora and is rich in uncommon species. However, the relatively poor representation of shade epiphytes and commonness of sun epiphytes and generalists reflect disturbance of the forest by anthropogenic activities. Careful attention should be given to conservation of the remaining natural forest in order to prevent further losses of the rich bryophyte diversity of the area.

Two new monotypie genera (Kizakimonas bogoriensis and Hoehne mastix saopaulensis) and six other new species (four in Tetramitus and two in Balliamonas) of colourless flagellates are described based on samples collected in Bogor and Sao Paulo.

Abstract

Diese Varietat,die ich friiher nach unvollstandigem Material zu G.diminutum gerechnet habe, besitzt in beiden Geschlechtern verzweigte Blutenstande.Dieses Merkmal kommt in der Gruppe mit sitzenden Fruch-ten (Subsection Sessiles) nur bei G.leptostachyum, vor, zu dem auch die Friichte der neuen Varietat gut passen.Sie ist eine Nebelwaldpflanze grosserer Hohen und hat bei reduzierten Massen der Blatter und Bliitenstande die schmalen,kurzen mannlichen Katzchen der Tieflands-Varietat leptostachyum mit den kurzgliedrigen, grossfriichtigen weiblichen Bluten-standen der Tieflands-Varietat robustum vereinigt.In Indochina und Siam lebt eine zweite Berg-Varietat -entsprechend der weiteren Ent-fernung vom Aquator in etwas geringeren Hohen die umgekehrt die dicken mannlichen Katzchen von der Varietat robustum mit den lang-gliedrigen weiblichen Bliitenstanden von der Varietat leptostachyum vereinigt.In beiden Fallen sind die Verkiirzungs- und Verlangerungs-Tenden-zen bei den Berg-Varietaten starker als bei denen des Tieflandes.

Abstract

Miconia crenata is a widely spread species that occurs in multiple ecosystems. However, there is limited information on M. crenata invasion biology, ecology, and anatomy, particularly in the context of mountainous tropical forest and biodiversity management. Therefore, we examined elevation effects upon leaf anatomical structure of exotic invasive M. crenata at Mount Gede-Pangrango National Park (MGPNP). We sampled the leaves at four different elevations i.e., 715 m asl, 800 m asl, 900 m asl, and 1,000 m asl. Cross section leaf anatomy specimens of M. crenata were obtained by using paraffin method and stained with safranin and fast green. This study found that M. crenata leaf anatomy was correlated with elevation shown by changes in leaf tissue thickness and stomata size. Further study is needed of leaf anatomical variation of exotic invasive species along driven by soil properties and the variation across different plant taxa and growth forms. Such studies are important to determine adaptation capacity of invasiveness.
