Indonesian Journal of Library and Information Science (IJLIS) contains articles written from research and study reports on Information and Library Science. Indonesian Journal of Library and Information Science is published twice annually (June and December) by the journal editors from the Library Science Study Program Faculty of etiquette and humanities, Universitas Islam Negeri Ar-Raniry Banda Aceh. This journal is focused on the study of library and information sciences. The coverage include both review articles as well as research articles in those fields. Abstract

This research illustrates the importance of implementing cloud computing in improving the operational efficiency and scalability of digital library information systems. Utilizing library research methods to review related literature, the research findings highlight that cloud computing enables libraries to respond faster to service needs, manage technology resources with flexibility, and improve user satisfaction through easier access and time savings. With a focus on resource management, automation, remote access, cost savings, data security, and analytics, this research shows that cloud computing not only provides an efficient solution, but is also an important strategic step in facing future challenges for digital libraries

Abstract

This research discusses the influence of information needs on the information-seeking behavior of library users at the UPT Library of the University of Bengkulu. Information needs are crucial in the decision-making process, problem-solving, and knowledge development. The more actively individuals engage in information-seeking, the more significant their information needs become. This study aims to determine whether there is an influence of information needs on the information-seeking behavior of library users at the UPT Library of the University of Bengkulu. The research method used is quantitative, and the statistical analysis tool employed is SPSS 25.0. The population of this study consists of 41,944 individuals, with a sample size of 100 respondents determined using the Proportionate Stratified Random Sampling technique. Data were collected through questionnaires and documentation. The data were analyzed using the Pearson Product-Moment Correlation test. The results of the product-moment correlation test showed a value of 0.702 between the information needs variable and the information-seeking behavior of library users at the UPT Library of the University of Bengkulu, indicating a strong correlation. The results of the study show that there is a significant influence of information needs on the information-seeking behavior of library users, with a strong correlation (0.60-0.799). The data were also analyzed using the Coefficient of Determination (R²) test. Based on the coefficient of determination calculation, it was found that the influence of information needs is 49.1%, while the remaining 50.9% of the information-seeking behavior is influenced by other variables.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of libraries as public spaces in promoting inclusivity through the implementation of the Human Library service. The Human Library is developed as a strategic innovation to reduce stigmatization and stereotypes against minority groups and marginalized communities. This research employs a literature study method by systematically analyzing various scholarly works and relevant literature related to the research topic. The data analysis process involves the collection of literature, selection of credible sources, identification of key issues, interpretation of findings, and comprehensive data presentation. The results indicate that libraries, as public spaces, play a significant role in fostering an inclusive environment through the Human Library service. Libraries are no longer merely repositories of collections but have transformed into spaces for interaction, sharing of experiences, and fostering mutual understanding among individuals from diverse backgrounds, identities, and life experiences

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji implementasi kompetensi personal pustakawan dalam konsep 4B (Beauty, Brain, Behaviour, Brave) di Perpustakaan Daerah Kabupaten Tulungagung. Konsep 4B awalnya dikenal dalam dunia pageant, namun berkembang menjadi pendekatan dalam profesi yang menekankan pelayanan, termasuk kepustakawanan. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dengan teknik pengumpulan data melalui wawancara mendalam terhadap tiga informan, terdiri dari Kepala Dinas dan dua pustakawan perempuan yang juga menjabat sebagai kepala bidang. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa setiap elemen dalam konsep 4B telah terimplementasi secara nyata dalam kompetensi personal pustakawan perempuan. Aspek beauty tidak hanya mencerminkan penampilan fisik, tetapi juga integritas pribadi dan upaya menciptakan lingkungan layanan yang menarik. Brain diwujudkan melalui penguasaan pengetahuan dan keterampilan kepustakawanan. Behaviour ditunjukkan melalui sikap profesional, empati, dan etika kerja dalam interaksi layanan. Sementara itu, brave tercermin dari keberanian pustakawan perempuan dalam mengambil peran strategis, memimpin inovasi, serta menghadapi tantangan di ruang publik. Temuan ini memperkuat pandangan bahwa pustakawan perempuan memiliki kapabilitas yang setara dengan laki-laki dalam konteks profesionalisme, serta berperan aktif dalam mengubah stereotip gender di lingkungan perpustakaan. Penelitian ini memberikan kontribusi terhadap pengembangan model kompetensi pustakawan berbasis pendekatan humanistik dan kesetaraan gender.

Abstract

Peran pustakawan dalam mengelola perpustakaan sangat penting, terutama dalam konteks perpustakaan sekolah dasar seperti di SD Negeri 9 Banda Aceh. Dalam sistem One Person Librarian (OPL), seorang pustakawan bertanggung jawab atas keseluruhan operasional perpustakaan. Kondisi ini menuntut pustakawan untuk memiliki keterampilan manajemen yang baik, kreativitas, dan kemampuan untuk beradaptasi dengan berbagai situasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh faktor psikologis dari pustakawan tunggal terhadap kualitas layanan perpustakaan yang diberikan. Faktor psikologis seperti motivasi, tingkat stres, dan kepuasan kerja dapat memengaruhi kinerja pustakawan, yang pada gilirannya berdampak pada kepuasan pengunjung perpustakaan. Hasil penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan wawasan mengenai strategi peningkatan kualitas layanan perpustakaan melalui pengembangan aspek psikologis pustakawan.

Abstract

Tulisan ini mengkaji Komunikasi Efektif Dalam Layanan Informasi Perpustakaan. Permasalahan difokuskan pada bagaimana membangun komunikasi efektif dalam layanan informasi perpustakaan. Dalam menjawab permasalahan, kajian ini menelaah dan merujuk literatur, baik berupa buku atau tulisan yang berkaitan dengan permasalahan yakni komunikasi efektif dalam layanan informasi perpustakaan. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian kualitatif yang bersifat deskriptif analisis. Hasil penelitian menujukkan bahwa komunikasi dikatakan efektif jika seorang komunikator berhasil menyampaikan pesan kepada komunikan sesuai dengan apa yang dimaksud oleh komunikator tersebut. Makna yang ditangkap komunikan sebanding/setara dengan makna yang dimaksud komunikator. Dalam konteks layanan informasi perpustakaan, untuk membangun komunikasi yang efektif, seorang pustakawan menjalankan beberapa tindakan yang mengundang respon pemustaka yakni menghormati sasaran komunikasi, menempatkan diri pada situasi atau kondisi yang dihadapi orang lain, menyampaikan pesan secara jelas, bersifat rendah hati dan mendengarkan orang lain. Komunikasi efektif ditandai dengan adanya pengertian dan pemahaman, dapat menimbulkan kesenangan, mempengaruhi sikap, meningkatkan hubungan sosial yang baik, dan pada akhirnya menimbulkan suatu tindakan.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the curative conservation of Bung Hatta’s printed collection at the Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) of the Proclamator Bung Hatta Library in Bukittinggi. The collection holds significant historical and intellectual value but faces deterioration risks due to age, storage conditions, and limited resources. The research employs a qualitative narrative approach through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that curative conservation is conducted systematically through stages such as damage identification, cleaning, conservation treatments including deacidification, manual mending, lamination, and rebinding. However, several challenges remain, including limited budgets, inadequate facilities, a shortage of conservation experts, and the absence of post-conservation monitoring. Additionally, users’ careless handling of materials contributes to further damage. To overcome these barriers, the library has made efforts to enhance conservator training, use alternative conservation tools, strengthen collaboration with other institutions, and provide education for both librarians and users on proper collection care. This study highlights the importance of curative conservation as a key strategy in preserving historically valuable library materials to ensure their accessibility for future generations. With proper management and supportive policies, the conservation of Bung Hatta’s collection can be sustained. These efforts also reflect the library’s commitment to safeguarding national cultural heritage and reinforcing its role as a center of historical literacy.
