Abstract

This study examines instructional objectives, teaching materials, and teaching strategies in English lesson plan. The study uses evaluation design implementing content analysis. An English lesson plan obtained from online data is analyzed. The study reveals that the lesson plan does not formulate appropriately components of instructional objectives and its indicators. The use of action verbs in Bloom taxonomy of instruction is not well identified in the indicators and instructional objectives. Sequence of instructional objective shows that instruction analysis is not applied. As a result, teaching materials are not well designed to show topics as the main teaching materials. Indication of how teacher develops a teaching material that links to instructional objectives, teaching strategies, and evaluation is absent. The lesson plan needs modification in all levels of instructional design more considerably.

Abstract

This study investigated acquisition in Bahasa Indonesia by children learning in playgroup and SD in Mataram. This study used ethnograpic and psycholinguistic as the design. Subject of the study were 6 students of playgroup aging 3-4 years and 4 SD students at 11-12 age. Data were collected using observation and interview. The study revealed that: (1) children learning at playgroup at age 3-4 used telegraphic utterance applying content words to convey message. Phonemes and morphology were aspired in terms of incomplete sound and spelling; (2) children at age 11-12 years old learning in the fifth grade of SD used syntac in terms of sentences. Sentences had been produced in terms of subject, predicate, object, adverbs, that function as parts of speech as the development of vocabulary and diction also improved.

Abstract

This study described (1) management to improve students ’ achievement, (2) factors affecting problems to increase students ’ achievement. This study used qualitative approach assigning Headmaster of SMPN 1 Fak-Fak and all the school-teachers as subject. Data were collected using observation, interview and document analysis. The findings were: (1) headmaster as a leader already promoted discipline, empowering teachers, having MGMP, and established conducive and clean work atmosphere; (2) headmaster as a manager, supervisor, and innovator implemented strategies of empowering, supervising, and developing innovative teaching models; (3) factors to decline management were: lack of tools and facilities, lack of awareness of teachers to increase teaching quality, un-accredited teachers, and irrelevant teachers with subject matters.

Abstract

This study aims to increase interest and student learning outcomes in learning the craft subject using constructivism approach. This study used classroom action research design in three cycles. The study assigned 32 students of the seventh grade of SMPN 1 Karangploso, Malang. The study revealed that (1) constructivist approach could enhance the students' learning activities showing an increase in cycle 1 to cycle 3 respectively 58.82%, 73.53% and 88.24%; (2) students ’ learning outcomes improved from 47.06% in cycle 1, 52.94% in cycle 2, and 78.13% in cycle 3. This means the achievement of learning the craft subject using a constructivist approach was quite good attaining Y 75%.

Abstract

Islamic Boarding School (pesantren) is an educational institution based on society where leadership is centered on Kyai. This study aimed to describe leadership management of pesantren by comparing insights from Abdurrahan Wajid and Nurcholis Madjid, two Islamic scholars whose great insights were predominant in the development of modern perspectives and education system in pesantren. This research used library research, exploring conceptual insights of revolutionary perspectives from Abdurrahman Wahid and Nurcholis Madjid about modernization and pesantren reconstruction. The study discovered that Abdurrahman Wahid and Nurcholis Madjid pioneered establishment of pesantren modernity foundation to implement “Al-Muhafadhatu -˜ala al-qadim al-ashalihwa al-akhdzu bi al-jadid al-ashlah-- in its own characteristics. Reconstruction emphasized on purpose, curriculum and methods of education in pesantren as well as Islamic leadership.

Abstract

This study explores values on traditional ceremony as public education in Sasak. The objective of ths study was to maintain social values, religious values, and self-esteem of the society for Indonesian integrity. This study used ethnographic design, exploring social values from the society. Data were collected using in-depth interview and observation. Data were analyzed inductively exploring taxonomy, domain and thematic analyses. The findings of the study were: bareqe ritual involved social values representing individual interactions to perform, care, solve problem in the society. Relegious values promoted praise to Allah, worship, and washing of sins in inner and physical. Self-esteem and integrity was represented as pride to involve in the ritual and maintain the values in the ritual devoted to the country.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to see students ’ motivation to use English text teaching materials of Basic Chemistry 2. This study used descriptive design employing rate parcentage and descritive statistcs to analyze data. Sample of the study was students joining in the Basic Chemistry course at Trunojoyo Unuversity Madura. Data were collected using quetsionnairee and analyzed using descriptive statistics. The findings of the study were 43% students agreed to use English teaxt teaching materials to learn Basic Chemistry course. Students assured to suggest that English teaching materials encouraged students to learn more and searched other similar teaching materials to enrich the mastery and understanding.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe linguistic phenomena on the use of numbers to represent words used in the police number of vehicles. The focus was emphasized in the sociolinguistic contexts as parts of social education using theory of Dell Hymes. The study used content analysis that used documents on policy numbers for cars as sources of data. Data were collected using observation and interview. The study found that trends to use unique numbers generated genuine ideas from young generation. In daily activities, the youth used the jargon-like codes for communication through SMS or written messages to their peers. The numbers represented expression for joke and unique, e.g. M 30 NG (MEONG), D 6161 T (DIGIGIT), and L 38 AY (LEBAY). It is evidence that creativities of young generation to innovate language existed as genuine creativity.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the skills to express simple descriptive monologue in oral English. The study used a class action research design with three cycles. Conducted in SMPN 1 Karangploso, Malang in September to November 2013, this study assigned 32 students of grade VII as the subject. Data were collected using observation, interview and document. The study revealed that (1) the use of the ICARE system improved skills to express simple monologue descriptive in oral English at level of literacy; (2) characteristics of oral English after ICARE was treated showed an increase showing the use of precise pronunciation, appropriate word choice and grammatical sentences, and (3) students were fluent and felt confidence to express orally simple descriptive monologue.

Abstract

This study reported classroom participation and learning achievement after students were treated using Problem Based Learning and Group Investigation techniques. This study used classroom action research with two cycles having planning, acting, observing and reflecting as the stage in each cycle. Data source was interactions in the Class X-D of MAN Malang I. The findings of were: (1) average percentage of participatory in cycle I was 56.06% and increased 76.47% in cycle II, (2) average score of test in cycle I was 67.56% and increased into 76.88% I cycle II. In summary, Problem Based Learning and Group Investigation did increase learning achievement in economy subject of the tenth graders of MAN Malang I.
