Abstract

The aim of this study was to use Abrahamson’s film Room as a case study to examine how PTSD may influence people’s lives and how they can use emotional processing to turn their extreme feelings into something positive. In order to reach this objective, Foa and Kozak’s emotional processing theory was used to analyze the protagonist,Joy “Ma” Newsome, with respect to various traumatic situations and resulting PTSD symptoms she has experienced, as well as her attempts to use emotional processing to cope with her psychological disorder and find meaning in the traumatic events in order to live again. The ultimate goal of this study was to help readers confront their own traumatic memory; although the world is not as perfect as we think, we can use Foa and Kozak’s emotional processing theory as a mechanism to make sense of traumatic experiences and bring about a positivechange. Keywords: emotional processing theory; mental disorder; PTSD; traumamemory.

Abstract

This study focuses on investigating semantic errors in English to Indonesian translation using DeepL Translate, with the aim of evaluating the extent of semantic accuracy of this translation tool. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study design, where data is collected by observing translations during a conversation between a native English speaker and a native Indonesian speaker. Each translation was analysed using a qualitative descriptive method to identify semantic errors, which were classified into three categories: inappropriate word choice, loss of implicit meaning, and ambiguity of sentence structure. The results showed that out of 50 translated sentences, there were 15 semantic errors, with inappropriate word choice being the dominant category. The conclusion of this study is that while DeepL is capable of producing relatively good translations, its limitations in understanding semantic context remain a significant bottleneck. The study recommends further development of the automatic translation algorithm and training of users to use the technology critically and judiciously. Keywords: deepL translate, english to indonesian translation, semantic errors

The number of categories of each person in expressing the concept of the ideal student itself. So that it creates a diverse prototype in its meaning. This research is based on cognitive linguistic studies. Namely examining a human mind on his speech. This research aims to describe the ideal student prototype in the Ideal Cognitive Model (ICM). This model is able to represent the conceptual knowledge of the ideal speaker without denying other concepts. The researcher provides a commonly spoken concept and respondents will choose according to their cognition of the term ideal student. The data was collected and classified to find the Ideal Meaning in the cognition. Analyzed and classified the type of prototype referring to Lakoff's theory. The results of the analysis are described in the form of tables and explanations of the model. Abstract

Digital storytelling (DST) has emerged as a powerful pedagogical tool in enhancing students’ speaking abilities, particularly in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) contexts. This study explores the implementation of DST in a vocational high school in Cianjur, Indonesia, using a qualitative case study approach. Data were collected through classroom observations and interviews with students to examine how DST influences their narrative speaking skills. The findings revealed that DST engages students actively through multimedia elements, improves their pronunciation and fluency, and boosts their speaking confidence. However, the study also identifies key challenges, including limited English proficiency, lack of confidence, and inadequate school facilities. The results indicate that while DST has strong potential in language learning, its success heavily depends on students’ foundational English skills and the availability of supporting infrastructure. The study concludes with suggestions for improving DST implementation in EFL classrooms, including increased training, better access to digital tools, and targeted support for speaking proficiency.
