Abstract

Film is a part of mass media. Film is a medium for entertainment yet give infor- mation for the audiences. As a mass media, film also give effects for the audiences, one of which is fanaticism. Cosplay is a form of fanaticism that is done by fans of a certain movie. Cosplay is an action of imitating characters from cartoons, comic books, or movies. In or- der to cosplay, fans can create their own alter egos and show it at certain moments. Alter ego is the other-self. This research aimed to acknowledge how the alter ego of fans which are members of the Star Wars fan communities was formed. The conceptual frameworks which been used in this research were Mass Media, the Mass Media Functions, Types of Massa Media, Film, Film Characteristics, Types of Movie, Movie Genres, Types of Movie’s Character, Culture, Fandom Culture, Alter Ego, Id, Ego & Superego, and Symbolic Interac- tionism. This research used constructivism paradigm with qualitative method. In-depth in- terview with purposive sampling as the method of selecting the informants. The informants are Star Wars fans and members of Star Wars fan communities. The informants also has their own alter egos. The result of this research shows that the fans wanted to feel as a part of Star Wars world with characters of their own creation. They are able to interact socially and comprehended the character of another human beings. The fans wanted to be a differ- ent character against their original. They created their own alter egos for their cosplay.

Abstract

The increasing price of fuel oil (BBM) in Indonesia has always been an issue that raises the pros and cons in the community. Especially the group of students will always be a driving demonstration of the anti- increasing fuel price. But interestingly when the issue of fuel price increase, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) have a plan to work abroad and accompanied by 80s student representatives from the Student Executive Board (BEM). The situation when assessed with the approach of political communication will encoun- ter an effort of domestication authorities, the President and his team to influence the opini­ on of the opponent group (students) who considered as a group of demonstrators. One of pressure group on political communication. Domestication in political activities is commonly done by the authorities who felt his posi- tion threatened. This is part of the political hegemony. The excesses of this effort is the divide et impera politics. When examined from a political communications course this approach is not ideal. Political communication is considered successful if there is equality between the commu- nicator and the communicant, without the need to “ degrading “ position of either party

Abstract

This study aims to determine how the shape of the narrative in the film, and determine the forms of intercultural communication in the film. This research deepens the characters in the film and their functions, so that it becomes a single unit. The framework of this study starts from mass communication, film as mass communication, cultural studies, narrative analysis, and intercultural communication. This study uses narrative analysis as a research method. The data obtained by capturing the scene, and from dialogues that occurred in the film. This film is one of Indonesian films that promote social functions for the community. After the study was conducted, it was found that communication between people, and between cultures must be understood between each other, so as to minimize cultural misunderstandings and establish good communication will make Indonesia better nation, and maintain our own cultural face.

Abstract

The label for “new man” that developed after the phenomenon of metrosexual in the 2000s has been obsolete todays due to the emergence of its new term “gentrosexual”. Gentrosexual derived from the word gentleman and metrosexual. Men todays believe that their self-actualization were not only seen from their appearance or treatment. Thus, the gentrosexual men genre revealed by realizing their roles to the gender issues, but that did not leave the traditional values such as behavior, marriage and loyalty. The research based on an article in a FHM UK magazine, which was also published in its Indonesian edition about the gentrosexual man genre that became a new phenomenon among urban men. FHM Indonesia believed that the gentrosexual character has been experienced by most urban men readers. This issue is interesting to study because of the conceptual shift of man associated with their role in society. Shifting this concept can be associated with the same or different cultures and values that they have so far. This study aims to understand how readers interpret gentrosexual characters in FHM Magazine Indonesia. This research is a qualitative descriptive using reception theory. Stuart Hall states that the reader is an active audience who has a preferred reading of media texts. Hall then mentions three readings performed by the code reader that is dominant, negotiation, and opposition. Convenience sampling was used to select a sample with the criteria that have been set. The primary data obtained by in-depth interviews were then analyzed with a coding technique. While the secondary data obtained by the study of documents and literature.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to comprehend the influence of TV commercials toward the children consumptive behavior. To attain that purpose, an analytical survey method was adopted. The sample was using the cluster random sampling technique of 13th Primary School of Serang. Based on the minimal amount and the Krejcie table, 39 student were taken as its sample. The primary data were obtained by questionnaire, interview and observation then those were enriched by documentation analysis as the secondary data. The data collected were slogan, commercial model, repetition, and motivation. Those were analyzed by path analysis. The result showed that aside of the following factors : slogan, model, repetition, motivation, were partially significant in influencing the childrens attitude to the product. Slogan, model, repetition, motivation, age, education and attitude were collectively significant in influencing consumptive behaviour of the childrens. Partially the age and social community had no significant influence

Abstract

The student’s motivation to excel could be triggered by a stimulus from the out- side or derived from within the students themselves in their biological process and the stu- dents’ thought. One of the triggering factors of external supports student achievement is the teacher. The assessment of student to the teacher’s competence can motivate students to ex- cel. Teacher’s competence can be judged based on three key areas : 1) cognitive competence related to the ability of teachers in the science mastery, 2) competence of attitude related to the feelings and teachers’predisposition to their profession, attitude towards human faces, attitudes toward the field studies which they teach, as well as attitudes toward renewal, and 3) Competence of behavior (performance) related to the ability of the teacher’s behav- ior related to his duties as a teacher.
