Abstract

n Indonesia, the impact of internet development which is characterized by the surging internet users in the country reached 88.1 million people, has been forcing PR pro­ fessionals to be able to master the technique of imaging through various online media plat­ forms. They demand not only media relations skill, but also master the technology of the In­ ternet and communication via various online platforms. It’s intended to strip the challenges and opportunities of public relations practitioners in facing the dynamics of the digital era in Indonesia, and the conclusion are the digital world in Indonesia is an ideal means for Practitioners PR to conduct his homework by targeting young people and workers. Addi­ tionally, social media is the most effective online platform to touch these circles. Thus, to captivate internet users in Indonesia, Indonesia PR practitioners must master at least five basic tools that include website Online PR; Online press releases; e-newsletter; blog; as well as social media. Furthermore, PR practitioners are also required to be able to optimize the Internet as a PR new media because of a convergence that runs between the PR and the digital era can build profits as well as new opportunities for the company.

Abstract

Internet usage can not be separated from the adolescents’ life nowadays. They use internet mainly for obtaining pleasure, although some of them are using it to help them in doing their school assignments. Internet is like a double edged sword for adolescents. In­ ternet has risks too for the adolescents, such as exposure to pornography, violent / racism content, misleading advertising, cyber bullying, and to certain extent we also heard that the contact with pedophile was done through internet (social media). Internet has made the outsider can reach adolescents from their personal subsystems. Internet is able to take them out of the boundaries of the community level and out of the social network which has been “kept” them. The question is, “are they aware the risk of using the internet?” To prevent things get worse in adolescents’ abuses, media literacy education is the answer and should be part of the Indonesian education system.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe rhetorical war in Islam Nusantara. Islam Nusantara is an assimilation of cultures that occured in Indonesia since Islam came to the archipelago. But in a text production in social media, lots of pros and cons are re­ garding to the practice of cultural assimilation with Islamic values. The text of among one another in their argumentation has been like being at war to persuade the reader. The author uses a qualitative methodology to analyze the rhetoric about the texts. The result showed that the text of the war occurred because of differences in perspective created by the structure of the Islamic organizations in Indonesia.

Abstract

Nowadays, hallyu or Korean Wave is becoming a phenomenon in various coun­ tries including Indonesia. Indonesia is one of the country which became a target to spread one of Hallyu Wave Product which is K­Pop. K­Pop itself is a Korean popular music which including various genre of music such as pop, rock, jazz, R&B, hip hop, and reggae. The presence of K­Pop in Indonesia through media is also a form of music globalization through media which can form someone’s new identity. This research tries to find out how fans’ identity formation through new media. This research used a descriptive qualitative method with in depth interview. This re­ search used globalization and media, popular culture, fans and popular culture, and self identity formation by Stone (1982). Informants in this research chosen with purposive sam­ ple, they are adolescent K­Pop fans from 19­22 years old. After doing this research, concluded that new media and intensity of its use contrib­ utes in forming users’ identity in media use aspect. Intensity of media using that used by informants could make them found many information and alternatives related to identity as K-Pop and 2PM fans. After being a fan of K-Pop, informants also formed their new identities that also change their life style which seen from their appearance, consumption behavior, and informants’ conversation topic.

Abstract

Leader and leadership states between ideological and cultural discourses. These discourses are not only occurred in the real world but also in the virtual world particularly in an online community forum. By using East and West leadership concepts and netnog­ raphy method in text discourses, this study finds that there is netizen level categorization in giving comments and opinions in the forum. Transactional leadership is prefered by Kaskuser netizen than transformational leadership. Leader who makes a change, work ori­ ented, and has the East accent, is ideal figure of online commuity forum. Although, expecta­ tion and need of forum online community member which are devided into Kozinets netizen level, are not depicted according to level of observed online community forum.

Abstract

This study was a long-term consideration of the Ministry of Social Affairs and communities in handling the problems of older persons (senior citizen) in Indonesia. Spe­ cific target of this research was to utilize themes of fantasy in each group meeting of the Elderly to be able to create cohesion among the group members. The research was using qualitative methods to analyze the family’s themes of fantasy in every story of the elderly. The data were obtained from observations of meetings and in­depth interviews to members of the elderly and their families in the environtment. The research analyzed the themes of fantasy that often appeared in every meeting where the elderly like the theme of family and health. The stories were developed by using jokes and funny stories to create happiness and equality symbol on the family and health. The use of fantasy as a result of the reconstruc­ tion of consciousness embodied in various rhetorical fantasy of the past, to create cohesion among the group of seniors. This study showed that the cohesiveness as the strength of all the factors that encourage members to survive in the group.
