Abstract

One may not have answers to questions regarding identity solely by looking at one’s own self while neglecting its connection to others. Against the background of the more intricate world of today, it is necessary that a spiritual reflection on identity should begin by looking inward, that is, into what is particular in one’s self wherein one can find a connection to God, the Creator who created human beings in his image. This religious truth can manifest through various paths, especially through the particular role of a Christian educator. This article goes through this process of recognising identity in oneself that can move a person beyond personal identity towards relational identity: an awareness of being connected to the whole creation. Only when one has undergone this can one perform the act of crossing borders without doing away with one’s own identity. This article presents a perspective of how identity can be understood differently today.

Abstract

In the Scriptures, Judith emerges as a prominent heroine of Israel, demonstrating her strength and intelligence to liberate her people from the grasp of oppression. On the other hand, Mary, Jesus’ mother, is revered as the Mother of God, who, through profound humility and obedience, embraces her pivotal role in the narrative of humanity’s redemption. This article aims to explore the significant parallels between these two remarkable figures, highlighting how they embody feminine qualities such as courage, intelligence, fidelity, and humility. These traits enable them to serve as divine instruments in the fulfillment of God’s salvific plan. Utilizing exegetical methods and theological reflections, the author emphasizes how Judith and Mary exemplify an active essence of femininity that transcends the patriarchal limitations traditionally placed on women’s roles in religious narratives. Both figures are positioned not merely as recipients of salvation but as active agents engaging in the divine work of salvation. This analysis can provide fresh insights into the contributions of women throughout the history of salvation and underscores their relevance in the ongoing struggles for liberation in contemporary contexts.

Abstract

In Quetta, the capital of Balochistan Province in Pakistan, numerous conflicts persist, driven by ethnic-religious tensions and the dissatisfaction of Baloch Muslims over perceived injustices. To address these issues, we employ a library research method in the form of autoethnography, drawing on personal experience to describe and interpret texts, events, beliefs, and cultural practices. In this way, we incorporate our years of apostolic work in Quetta. We apply Anthony Giddens’ theoretical framework of the Duality of Structure, which explores how social structures are formed through interactions among various social groups that extend beyond physical and temporal boundaries. Our findings reveal that the conflict in Quetta is highly complex, involving political, social, economic, and cultural issues, and not merely a matter of religion. At this stage, politics related to ethnic identity has resulted in specific theological consequences. We believe that a viable response involves initiating dialogue between conflicting groups through political negotiations aimed at reaching mutual agreement, supported by humanitarian efforts for the common good. This praxis can be implemented through the field of education. Drawing inspiration from Lian Gogali, who fostered reconciliation during the ethnic-religious conflict in Poso by establishing a public library, the Vicariate of Quetta Apostolic could consider promoting character-building initiatives for children, emphasising local wisdom rooted in cultural folktales.

Abstract

The relationship between humans and their world requires understanding. This project is not only concerned with the existential search for the meaning and purpose of human existence. However, the first question is how objective knowledge can be acquired. In addressing this, knowledge enables humans to comprehend the meaning and purpose of their existence. Examining humans and their relationship with the world has never been separated from studying existential phenomenology. However, this problem also needs to be seen from an epistemological perspective. This article attempts to offer an alternative framework for understanding humans’ relationship with their world and how objective knowledge can be acquired. In addressing this, Wilhelm Dilthey’s historicism philosophy becomes pertinent for contemporary discourse. Dilthey’s critique of historical reasoning aims to illustrate that truth within existential and epistemological contexts is historically situated. Consequently, by critiquing history, not only is it demonstrated that objective knowledge can be pursued, but also that humans can fathom the meaning and purpose of their existence concerning their world.

Abstract

This article seeks to participate in the efforts to revitalize the charismatic dimension within the Church. After centuries of being overly cerebral, the Holy Spirit breathed a new stream of grace in the 20th century. The Catholic Charismatic Renewal Movement, in its own way, interprets the will of the Holy Spirit by vivifying faith in a more cordial manner. Through literature examination, both Church documents and theological works, the author elaborates the journey of this recently overflowing new charismatic consciousness in the Church, as well as the vision of the Church leaders regarding a more charismatic future of the Church. There are many virtuous fruits that have been produced by the Renewal stirred by the Holy Spirit, that the popes argue it would be regrettable if they were not involved in realizing a more vibrant future of the Church. In the end, not only the members of the Renewal are invited to be charismatic but the entire Church must be charismatic in its character. For that reason, the members of the Renewal are expected to be more engaged in the Church’s ministry, and the Church can also be more open in adopting the good practices of the Renewal.
