Abstract

Plastic waste management has become an increasingly critical environmental issue in urban areas due to rising population density and household activities. This community service program was conducted in Kampung Kadu Sempur, Kadu Village, Curug District, Tangerang Regency, with a focus on improving community awareness and knowledge regarding plastic waste management. The main problem faced by the community was the low level of awareness in disposing of and sorting plastic waste, which led to waste accumulation, environmental pollution, and the loss of potential economic value from plastic waste. This program aimed to enhance public understanding of the environmental impacts of plastic waste and to encourage more responsible and sustainable waste management behavior. The methods employed included field observation, the development and installation of visual educational media such as information boards on plastic decomposition time and educational banners, community counseling sessions, as well as post-activity monitoring and evaluation. The results indicate an improvement in community knowledge regarding the types of plastic waste, their decomposition periods, and their environmental impacts. However, consistent behavioral change in waste sorting practices has not yet been optimally achieved.

Abstract

The development of digital technology and social media has influenced the literacy patterns of Generation Z, which tend to reduce in-depth reading habits and critical thinking skills. This condition has resulted in a low social awareness among the younger generation in responding to increasingly complex social issues. One potential critical literacy strategy to address this problem is writing book reviews, as it can train analytical skills, reflection, and the systematic delivery of ideas. However, the skill of writing engaging and informative reviews remains a challenge due to a lack of mentoring and the perception that book reviews are academic and lack context. This community service activity aims to provide training and practical guidance to Generation Z in writing critical book reviews relevant to social issues. The methods used included material delivery, interactive discussions, and review writing practice. The results of the activity demonstrated an increased understanding of the structure, techniques, and function of book reviews as a medium for social reflection. This activity is expected to foster a culture of critical literacy and strengthen Generation Z's social awareness through educational, communicative, and responsible writing.

Abstract

The problem of drug abuse not only impacts legal and health aspects but also causes moral and spiritual degradation. Drug inmates generally face problems of weak self-control, low religious awareness, and a value crisis that impacts daily behavior. Therefore, correctional guidance needs to be complemented by an approach focused on strengthening morals and spirituality. This community service activity was carried out at the Class II B Rumbai Narcotics Correctional Institution in Pekanbaru with the aim of internalizing Islamic moral values in the inmate development process. The objective of this activity was to instill Islamic moral values, such as honesty, responsibility, patience, discipline, self-control, and repentance, in order to shape the inmates' moral and spiritual awareness. Through internalization of these values, it is hoped that positive changes in attitudes and behavior will be sustained throughout the rehabilitation period and upon their return to society. The implementation methods included religious lectures, interactive discussions, self-reflection (muhasabah), habituation of worship, and moral-spiritual mentoring. A participatory approach was used to ensure that the rehabilitation process was not one-way but rather fostered inmates' internal awareness. Targeted outcomes include increased understanding and practice of Islamic moral values, the development of Islamic moral development modules, and the establishment of ongoing collaboration between universities and correctional institutions to support the rehabilitation and social reintegration of inmates.

Abstract

Breast care is an important preventive and promotive effort to support the smooth production of breast milk and prevent various breastfeeding problems such as sore nipples, engorgement, mastitis, and breast engorgement. Lack of knowledge and skills among breastfeeding mothers regarding proper breast care techniques is often a factor inhibiting the success of exclusive breastfeeding. This condition can reduce maternal motivation and increase the risk of early cessation of breastfeeding. Therefore, systematic and applicable education is needed to increase the capacity of mothers to perform breast care independently. This community service activity aims to improve the knowledge and skills of breastfeeding mothers in implementing proper breast care techniques. The method used is a participatory educational approach through interactive counseling, demonstrations, hands-on practice with assistance, discussions, and evaluation using pre- and post-tests. The results of the activity showed a significant increase in the knowledge, skills, and confidence of participants in practicing breast care. This activity effectively supports the success of exclusive breastfeeding and contributes to the sustainable improvement of maternal and infant health.

SMKN 1 Singingi Hilir is a vocational high school (SMK) located in Petai, Singingi Hilir District, Kuantan Singingi Regency, Riau Province, and is under the auspices of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia. In its educational delivery, this school implements a vocational learning system that encompasses productive, normative, and adaptive subjects as a unified process that students must complete. To ensure the achievement of educational goals and graduate competencies, systematic and ongoing learning evaluation is necessary. Evaluation serves not only to measure learning outcomes but also to assess the effectiveness of the learning methods, strategies, and media used. Evaluation of productive subjects is a particular focus because it directly relates to students' readiness to enter the workforce or continue their education to a higher level. With appropriate evaluation, the quality of learning and the quality of graduates are expected to continuously improve.
