Abstract

The aim of this research is to study the Australian position on regional development. This research intends to assess the Australian solidarity towards Southern Pacific development from theoretical, security, economic, and environmental perspectives because of the pertinence of these factors affecting the region and the frequency of terms appeared on Pacific Islands Forum. It argues that Australian regional dedication inclines to rationalist perspectives and not much constructivism. The level of solidarity is relatively low comparing to New Zealand's. This paper conducted a theoretical analysis and specific policy analysis with a comparative study of New Zealand. To illustrate the case, it applies the numeric analysis in aids and qualitative analysis of policy decisions in climate change, regional security, and labor issues. The analysis relies on the rationalistic perspective of Australian economic and security contribution to the region compared with its other overseas activities and with New Zealand's. The indicators are derived from economic and security focus: the total amount of aids, military engagement, and climate improvement. It is concluded that the Australian regional solidarity is not from a constructivist perspective, but a rationalist one. Australian government orientation of cooperation are national-centric, and the current regional integration program is subject to the diminishing power of the United States and the rising power of China in the region.

Abstract

The study aims to observe the deconstruction of the legitimation paradox at work, as the legitimacy of authorship itself begins to be questioned. It was most clear in metatextual styles of fanfic which reflected on its own relationship with the source text, and the showrunners' attempts at containment, which were then complicated by fandom's re-(re!)appropriation of control of the narrative, often with explicit reflection on the process. This article first explains the methodology that was developed, and makes the broader case for utilizing discourse analysis as a tool in studying fanwork. Using the cult television texts Sherlock (BBC), Game of Thrones (HBO) and Supernatural (CW) as a case study, discourse theory adapted from Foucault was utilized to establish that discursive formations from the source text can be de- and re-constructed, sometimes consolidating canon's constructions, but at other times, altering other characterizations and criticizing statements from canon. Multi-modal tools of fanvids, artwork, and even musical conventions have been utilized in the current study. The findings explained how changing media affordances of sites like Tumblr critique and undermine traditional conceptions of authorship and authority through their structure as modes of engagement as much as their content, and finally suggest some strategies of engagement for industry professionals.

Abstract

The present study has been envisioned to explore how the leadership of the principal influenced students' achievement within the context of schools in India. Studies in developed countries have revealed that the leadership of principals has influenced students' achievement. On the other hand, in India, this type of study is scarce. And the details how the leadership of the principals influenced students' achievements are still unexplored. The present study has used a qualitative case study to better understand the phenomenon. To meet the objective of the study, the researchers have conducted in-depth interviews with school principals and teachers in five different schools in India. Likewise, students' progress report and minutes of meetings of parents, teachers, and school staff were requested for further analysis. The data derived from the data sources were triangulated. The results of the analysis of the transcription of the interviews have offered descriptions of how the leadership of the principal influenced students' achievements. The findings from the interviews with principals were validated by the senior teachers. First, the leadership of the principal influenced students' achievements through the curriculum. In schools, the principals are the ones who decide on the type or form of the curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular programs that will be brought to students. Second, their leadership clarifies the focus of the delivery of instructions. The principals articulate the goals of teaching and learning in class. Third, the leadership of the principals provides support to teachers and ensures the delivery of quality educational services to the students. In schools where the leadership of the principal is felt the professional development of teachers and the achievements of students were the top priority. Lastly, the leadership of principals encourages parents' school involvement, which helps students to see the value of their achievements in schools.
