Abstract

The current qualitative research focuses on substance abuse and addiction among young people as a primary area of investigation. This study aimed to shed light on the substance that young people in Hyderabad, Sindh, take the most frequently and the most critical factors contributing to drug addiction. The research was carried out by proceeding to a mental hospital drug rehabilitation ward in Hyderabad, Sindh, and conducting face-to-face interviews with a total of 36 participants, ranging in age from 16 to 22, including both males and females. The participants were selected using a technique known as purposeful sampling. The study's findings indicated that alcohol, heroin, and ice drugs are the three substances used by young people with the most significant prevalence. In addition, researchers found that intra-personal factors, such as problems with mental health and entertainment, and extra-personal factors, such as peer pressure and the influence of the neighborhood, as well as the impact of the media, are the primary contributors to substance abuse among young people. According to the findings of the study, one preventative measure that may be taken to lower rates of drug addiction among young people is for parents, schools, governments, and other social groups to work together to educate young people about the negative consequences of drug consumption.

Abstract

Using the theoretical framework of International Portfolio Diversification (IPD), the study explores the long-run relationship between the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) and the world's six leading stock exchanges of Canada, China, France, Japan, United Kingdom, and the United States. These markets are represented by the indices such as KSE-100 index (Pakistan), TSX (Canada), SSE Composite (China), CAC-40 Index (France), Nikkie-225 (Japan), FTSE-100 index (UK) and DJIA (US). An extended sample period of 27 years, has been studied ranging from 1991 to 2018, using daily, weekly, and monthly frequencies. This paper investigates the existence of cointegration among the markets by employing Johansen and Juselius bi-variate and multivariate co-integration techniques. The Augmented Dicky Fuller (ADF) and Phillip and Perron (P-P) test indicate that all the series are non stationary at level, whereas they are stationary at the first difference form. In addition, the results of the bi-variate co-integration test show that Pakistani market is weakly linked with the rest of the six markets. In addition, the findings of the multivariate co-integration test confirm two co-integrating equations—France and the UK stock exchanges are integrated on the daily data, while China and Canada stock exchanges are integrated on monthly data. An essential implication deduced from this result is that these markets are loosely connected with each other over the period investigated. Hence, international investors seeking to reduce risk can diversify their portfolio risk by including these markets in their pool of investment.

Abstract

The current study aimed to focus on the quarter-life crisis mainly the first phase that required a set of commitments, so it included young adults of Pakistan from 25-35 of age who have at least graduated, had a career, and had a romantic relationship. It was hypothesized that (1) there will be a significant relationship between Consideration of Future Consequences (CFC) and Coping Self-Efficacy (CSE) during the first phase of the quarter-life crisis, and (2) the CFC will impact the relationship between social support and CSE as a moderator variable during the first phase of quarter-life Crisis. Purposive sampling technique was used to collect data from 185 (M = 1.49, SD = 0.501) young adults, including males (51 %) and females (49%). They filled out an online survey that comprised of Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS), Coping Self-Efficacy Scale (CSES), and CFC-14. For the first hypothesis, Pearson Product Correlation was administered, showing a significant moderate positive correlation (p value < 0.01) between CFC and CSF. Moreover, Regression analysis represented (R²=.337, p-value <0.01) that CFC moderates the relationship between social support and CSE. This study will help psychologists, social workers, and educationists who work with young adults and want to enhance their CSE, as it is vital to deal with challenging situations.

The data obtained is then technically analyzed through Structural Equation Modelling (SEM). Results indicates that Inter organization information integration and intra organization information integration have impacts on construction team performance. Based on findings, a model is presented to help improve team performance by understanding the significant role of information integration. The momentous research aid the relation of inter organization information integration and intra organization information integration with team performance thus providing a foundation for new research that can build and strengthen the varying dynamics of Information Integration.Information integration has vivacious standing in expediting operations of construction projects, explicitly improving construction team performance. However, the dynamic nature of the construction industry projects makes it an area of immense need of exploration. The contracting firms that usually work on more than one project can yield better results by improving team performance. Thus, result in improved Firm’s performance.

Abstract

Along with other skills, an adolescent need to develop adequate decision-making skills as several important decisions that will have an impact on their future will be taken during this period. One such important decision that needs to be taken is regarding academic and career choices. Most of these choices are influenced by cognitive factors or emotional factors. Keeping in view the prior research gaps, the aim of this paper is to explore the shared cognitive and emotional factors influencing adolescents career choices living in small city. In depth interviews were taken from ten higher secondary school students studying at different colleges in Multan through a convenient sampling technique. Data were analyzed with the help of thematic analysis. Semantic and inductive approach was used to generate themes. Results of the study revealed the autonomy in career choice, stigmas attached with the career choice, individual factors in career choice, and impact of the program on mental and emotional health. It was observed that male students were given a choice in terms of their career as compared to females. Also, male students were more confident and stress-lived as they opted for their desired careers. On the contrary female students feel depressed, helpless and reported emotional and mental health issues due to the unavailability of career choices and forced career on them. The study helped in understanding the impact of program of the study on students cognitive and emotional health. It can be implied from the present study that gender differences still prevail in our education system. Due to scarcity of career options available and the pressure to get admission from the parents in prestigious institutes are making adolescents compromise on their mental and emotional health. Therefore, a career guidance plan should be introduced in education policy for adolescents' mental health. Also, it was also the first study which supported the concept of shared cognitive and emotional experiences.

Abstract

This research attempts to unearth the contrasting discourses that constitute the subjectivity in Basharat Peer’s memoir. By highlighting the circulation of these multiple discourses, the research further endeavours to trace the resistance in the subject's agency. These discourses, often resorting to violent modes of disciplining, relentlessly struggle to configure the subject. However, with its potential for resistance, the subject's agency subverts all these hegemonic configurations. Drawing upon Lacan's imagery and symbolic orders along with Lacanian discourses: master's discourse, university's discourse, analyst's discourse, and hysteric's discourse, this paper reads the incidents as symptomatic of a problem beyond their literal signification. This paper concludes that the Kashmiri subject becomes a battleground for these contradictory forces: the military and the militants. However, their modes of fashioning and disciplining the subject go awry with the agency's resistance.

Abstract

The current study aimed to find the relationship between the Psychological Distress (PD) of trainee clinical psychologists with their Counseling Self-Efficacy (CSE) and how this relationship may impact their empathy. It was hypothesized that (i) There will be a significant relationship between PD with CSE and empathy of trainee clinical psychologists, (ii) There will be a significant impact of the relationship between PD and CSE on the empathy of trainee clinical psychologists. A purposive convenient sampling technique was used to gather a sample of trainee clinical psychologists who have at least 1 month to 36 months of experience in client dealing and who are currently working in the field. A total sample of 103 (M = 25.92, SD = 2.73) was collected, including both males (5.8%) and females (94.2%). Participants of the study were provided an online form consisting of self-reported measures including the Kessler PD Scale (K10), Counselor Activity Self-Efficacy Scales (CASES) (Lent, Hill, & Hoffman, 2003), and Interpersonal Reactivity Index (IRI; Davis, 1980, 1996). Statistical analysis was done using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) to interpret and further analyze scores. Pearson product-moment correlation showed a significantly weak positive correlation of PD with CSE (p-value < 0.05) and empathy (p-value < 0.01). Regression Analysis (R²=0.07) represented the variance caused by PD and CSE on empathy. This research is a base to appreciate the efforts of the clinical psychologists under training as well as a means to encourage them to accept their distress and seek help for it.
