Abstract

Diseases that are transmitted by animals to humans are known as zoonoses. In the last few decades, there have been various zoonoses such as AIDS, SARS, MERS, ZIKA. At the beginning of 2020, a zoonotic disease emerged which resulted in a global pandemic, namely Covid-19. Researchers around the world believe that the Covid-19 pandemic is caused by diseases transmitted by bats and pangolins. This study analyzes the effect of pandemics of wild animal-borne diseases on wildlife ownership. The research was conducted in the period 2020-2021 using a literature review method from media coverage, supported by scientific articles and reports from institutions/foundations, especially the latest report by the Social Media Animal Cruelty Coalition. The results of the study show the impression that pandemics of wild animal-borne diseases have no effect on wildlife ownership, as evidenced by the widespread ownership of wild animals by the general public, community leaders, and even state civil servants. This finding is worrying because rampant wildlife ownership increases interactions between humans and wildlife which risk increasing zoonoses and possibly creating new pandemics. This issue must be addressed immediately through wider public outreach and the development of regulations regarding the risks and prohibitions against keeping wild animals.

Abstract

The Wae Batu Merah watershed is located in the center of Ambon City and has the potential to trigger land-use change which will have an impact on decreasing water quality, water pollution, flooding, and erosion which will increase in the future. The objective of this study was to analyze land-cover changes in the Wae Batu Merah watershed in 2012, 2017, and 2022 and predict land cover in 2031. The method used was Cellular Automata Markov Chain (CA-MC) with 5 factors driving land cover changes including slope, elevation, distance from the river, point of interest (POI), and distance from the road. The results showed that from 2012, 2017, 2022, and 2031 the residental and open land-cover continued to increase in area, in contrast to the land-cover of agricultural areas and non-agricultural areas which a decrease in area. The kappa accuracy value in the model reaches 91%. The results of the model year 2031 show that residential land cover types have an area of 392.09 ha, open land has an area of 35.31 ha, agricultural areas have an area of 104.59 ha, non-agricultural areas have an area of 118.35 and aquatic land cover types have an area of 4.69 ha.

Abstract

Management of waste is a serious problem in every nation. The volume of waste, the limited location for disposal, and the threat of reducing environmental and health risks are some of the factors that encourage the occurrence of quite complex problems in waste management. Thus the waste management strategy in the Qur'an Al-Hikmah Islamic boarding school is the goal of this paper. This study uses the SWOT method as a tool to determine waste management strategies. In addition to that, a questionnaire was also utilized throughout the course of this research. This questionnaire was distributed to five respondents who understand the problem of waste at Pondok Pesantren Qur'an Al-Hikmah Bogor.. The results of the analysis provide information about internal factors and external factors. In addition, the topic presented in this article offers the outcomes of a SWOT analysis pertaining to waste management. These outcomes are located in quadrant I (Strength-Opportunity strategy) and total around 7.223 points. This demonstrates that Islamic boarding schools have a number of really good capabilities that can be used to identify the options that they have available to them. The results can be replicated in other educational institutions as a strategy for sustainable environmental management.

Abstract

Abstract

Land and space management has become a big concept and agenda to answer two major problems that are currently happening, first, the availability of land and space for development which is dwindling, second, forest conservation due to the damage that has occurred due to the development. The Ammatoa Kajang community is a community that owns and chooses to maintain local wisdom called Pasang Ri Kajang, a value system that focuses on environmental conservation. This research is descriptive qualitative using the literature method with a research focus on land and forest space management issues with the perspective of local wisdom of the Ammatoa Kajang community as a conservative effort. Researchers collect and utilize various secondary information through related journals and articles. The results showed that with Pasang Ri Kajang which is believed to be a noble value, the Ammatoa Kajang indigenous people have a high concern for forests and the environment, thus providing a positive impact on forest conservation. In several other areas that have and choose to maintain local wisdom in the social system of their indigenous peoples, it is known to have the same positive impact, both from an ecological and economic perspective.
