Abstract

Current research works indicated that parts of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have low to moderate seismic regions. For structural engineers, seismic load should be considered as important aspect that needs to be included in the building design. However Major part of buildings are designed for gravity loading only and poorly detailed to accommodate lateral loads. The purpose of this paper is to investigated gravity supporting building its resistance to expected seismic loading in different regions (Makkah, Jeddah, Gizan and Haql). In this paper, a test RC building that was designed for gravity loading only is investigated. This will be accomplished by performing the nonlinear static analysis (pushover analysis) according to ATC 40. Pushover analysis produces the pushover curves, capacity spectrum, plastic hinges and performance level of the building. This analysis gives better understanding seismic performance of buildings and also traces the progression of damage or failure. The building performance level is determined by intersection of demand and capacity curves and the hinge developed in the beams and the columns. The results show that the test building is found inadequate for Haql region and it still can be considered for Makkah, Jeddah and Gizan.

Abstract

Increasing the number of private vehicles are not comparable with the growth of public transport vehicles. Though the population of the city has increased rapidly, followed by increasing the amount of movement of people from one place to another. This growing movement should be facilitated by public transport so that traffic is not crowded by private vehicle. Because with more and more use of private vehicles will have an impact on the wasteful use of fuel for motor vehicles, traffic congestion led to wastage of time and cost, as well as environmental pollution. Therefore, the development of public transport in urban areas should be done as soon as possible to address the addition of the urban population, increasing the number of movements of people to move from one place to another, and the increase in the number of private vehicles.

Abstract

Accreditation is one of the forms of external quality guarantee system; it is a process that used in authorized institution in giving formal recognition that an institution has an ability to do certain activity. On the preparation process there are many things have to be done by study program by using internal audit in periodic time. Internal audit is an independence activity, objectivity, and consultatively which is designed to increase the organization’s operation. This study will specifically focus on internal process audits in preparation for accreditation of Study Program of Information Engineering at Bandar Lampung University, through conducting monitoring directly that can be accessed by some units in a management system. The guidelines and standards for internal audit issued by one of several organizations ISO, the quality management system ISO 9001: 2008,  one of the requirements must be fulfilled is conducting periodic internal audits. This standard is good when applied in the preparation for the accreditation process, and accreditation assessment matrix as a guide in conducting internal audits.

Abstract

The present paper reviews the recent development of biofuel cell. Due to its renewable nature and milder operating conditions compared to conventional fuel cell, the electrochemical system has been extensively studied. However, major problems associated with this type of electrochemical system remain an intimidating challenge, the utmost being the low power output and stability of biocatalyst being used. Various attempts have been made to overcome these problems, some are reviewed here. The authors suggest a new direction in solving these problems by using hybrid system i.e. metal biofuel cell. The new hybrid system developed is of lower cost, less complex, higher OCV and greater power output.

Abstract

Failure of Kutai Bridge already gives Indonesia civil engineer a blow in face. The failure which bring cause human accident make a new challenge to Indonesia civil engineer not to wait till failure but to safe before the construction failure. By the development in sensor and monitoring technology the idea become more realistic. Structure Healthy Monitoring (SHM) become new idea to detect, to monitor and to find out the reliability of structure. The development and research in Indonesia for SHM till now are presented and compared to other country. SHM research is needed to predict behavior of bridge by using data from monitoring to gain healthy condition.
