Abstract

Reproductive health issues remain a significant concern among adolescents. Data from the Indonesian Demographic and Health Survey (IDHS) in 2012 indicate an increase in premarital sexual behavior among adolescents, which may lead to various negative consequences such as unwanted pregnancy, abortion, sexually transmitted infections, and sexual violence. This condition highlights the importance of health education efforts to improve adolescents’ knowledge of reproductive health. This study aimed to determine the effect of health education counseling on adolescents’ knowledge of reproductive health. This study employed a quasi-experimental design using a one group pre-test and post-test approach. A total of 20 respondents were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using a reproductive health knowledge questionnaire. Health education counseling was provided after the pre-test, followed by a post-test to assess changes in knowledge levels. Data analysis was conducted using the paired sample t-test. The results showed an increase in adolescents’ knowledge levels after receiving health education counseling. Statistical analysis revealed a significant difference between knowledge levels before and after the intervention (p = 0.036). Conclusion Health education counseling has a significant effect on improving adolescents’ knowledge of reproductive health

Abstract

Scabies is a contagious skin disease caused by Sarcoptes scabiei var. hominis . This condition represents a significant health problem as it can lead to severe morbidity and, if left untreated, may even result in mortality. The high prevalence of scabies in Islamic boarding schools is influenced by the lack of knowledge and attitudes among students regarding personal hygiene. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of health education on personal hygiene in improving knowledge and attitudes toward the prevention of scabies among students. This research employed a pre-experimental design with a one-group pre-post test approach. A total of 63 respondents were selected using stratified random sampling. The results showed that prior to the health education intervention, 92.2% of respondents had poor knowledge and 85.7% had poor attitudes. After the intervention, good knowledge increased to 44.1% and good attitudes increased to 48.9%. Data analysis using the Wilcoxon Sign Rank Test revealed a p-value of 0.000 (<0.05), indicating a significant difference in students' knowledge and attitudes before and after the intervention. The implementation of health education proved effective in enhancing students' knowledge and attitudes regarding personal hygiene and can serve as an important source of information in the prevention of scabies in Islamic boarding schools.

Abstract

Teenage pregnancy remains a leading cause of maternal and neonatal mortality, posing significantly higher risks compared to pregnancies in the standard reproductive age. This study aimed to investigate the influence of teenage pregnancy on maternal and perinatal outcomes at RSI Aminah Blitar. A retrospective cross-sectional design was employed using purposive sampling of secondary data from 52 medical records. The independent variable was teenage pregnancy, while the dependent variables were maternal and perinatal outcomes. Data were analyzed using the Chi-square statistical test. High frequencies of complications were observed: anemia (87%), preeclampsia (85%), and premature rupture of membranes (PROM) (73%). Perinatal outcomes included prematurity (60%), low birth weight (LBW) (52%), and asphyxia (56%). Chi-square analysis revealed that teenage pregnancy significantly influenced maternal outcomes such as anemia (p=0.001), preeclampsia (p=0.000), and PROM (p=0.000). However, no significant correlation was found with instrumental delivery (p=0.887), prolonged labor (p=0.636), or postpartum hemorrhage (p=0.168). Regarding perinatal outcomes, teenage pregnancy significantly affected prematurity, LBW, and asphyxia (all p=0.000). Teenage pregnancy is strongly associated with adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes. There is an urgent need for collaborative support from healthcare providers and families to ensure high-quality midwifery care, aiming to mitigate complications from gestation through delivery.

Abstract

Joint pain is a common problem among the elderly, which can reduce quality of life and limit daily activities. Non-pharmacological interventions, such as warm and cold compress therapy, are often used to alleviate discomfort in older adults. The effectiveness of compress therapy is influenced by the type of pain, joint condition, and individual preferences, making it important to study the effect of both warm and cold compresses as pain distraction interventions. This study aimed to determine the effect of warm and cold compress therapy as a pain distraction on joint pain intensity in elderly residents at Wisma Tulip UPT PSTW Tulungagung and to identify the elderly’s preferences for the type of compress therapy. A one group pretest–posttest quasi-experimental design was used with 10 elderly participants experiencing joint pain. Pain intensity was measured using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) before and after the administration of warm and cold compresses. Data were analyzed descriptively, and the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test was used to assess differences in pretest and posttest pain scores. Results: Both warm and cold compress therapies were effective in reducing joint pain. Cold compress therapy resulted in a more significant reduction in pain compared to warm compress therapy. Most respondents (70%) preferred cold compresses due to the rapid pain relief and comfort they provided, while 30% preferred warm compresses for muscle relaxation. Statistical analysis confirmed that cold compress therapy produced a more clinically meaningful decrease in pain scores than warm compress therapy. Conclusion: Warm and cold compresses are effective as pain distraction interventions for elderly individuals with joint pain, but cold compresses are more effective and preferred. The choice of therapy should be tailored to the type of pain and individual preferences to enhance comfort and improve the quality of life of the elderly.

Abstract

Adolescent mental health has become a growing global concern in the digital era (World Health Organization [WHO], 2021). Increased engagement with social media platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook has intensified psychological phenomena including Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) and cyberbullying (Keles et al., 2020; Twenge & Campbell, 2018). This study aims to systematically review and synthesize empirical findings regarding the impact of FOMO and cyberbullying on adolescent mental health. A literature review method was employed using peer-reviewed articles published between 2015 and 2023 indexed in PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar. The findings indicate consistent associations between FOMO, cyberbullying victimization, and increased levels of anxiety, depression, stress, low self-esteem, and suicidal ideation (Beyens et al., 2016; Hamm et al., 2015; Kowalski et al., 2014). The interaction between FOMO and cyberbullying may further exacerbate psychological vulnerability among adolescents. The study highlights the importance of digital literacy education, parental involvement, and school-based mental health programs to mitigate these risks.

Abstract

Adolescence is a developmental stage characterized by significant psychological and social changes that may increase vulnerability to stress. Effective coping mechanisms are essential for adolescents to manage academic and social pressures. Psychosocial factors, particularly family support and self-efficacy, play an important role in shaping adolescents’ adaptive responses to stress. This study aimed to examine the association between family support, self-efficacy, and coping mechanisms among adolescents. A quantitative correlational study with a cross-sectional design was conducted among 193 students at a vocational high school in Tulungagung, Indonesia. Participants were selected using stratified random sampling. Family support was measured using the Family Support Scale (FSS), self-efficacy using the Self-Efficacy Questionnaire for Children (SEQ-C), and coping mechanisms using the Adolescent Coping Orientation for Problem Experiences (A-COPE). Data were analyzed using Spearman’s rho correlation test with a significance level of 0.05. The findings indicated that most adolescents reported moderate levels of family support (38.3%) and self-efficacy (38.9%), while coping mechanisms were predominantly moderately adaptive (53.9%). Statistical analysis revealed a significant positive association between family support and coping mechanisms (r = 0.799; p < 0.001) as well as between self-efficacy and coping mechanisms (r = 0.654; p < 0.001). Higher levels of family support and self-efficacy were associated with more adaptive coping strategies among adolescents. In conclusion, family support and self-efficacy are important psychosocial factors associated with adolescents’ coping mechanisms. Strengthening emotional support within families and enhancing adolescents’ self-efficacy may contribute to improved adaptive coping and mental well-being.
