Abstract

Genomic medicine which leverages the insights gained from the human genome, holds transformative potential in public health by enabling personalized treatment strategies, improving disease prevention, and enhancing healthcare outcomes. This literature review examines both the benefits and risks associated with the application of genomic medicine in public health. The benefits include more accurate disease diagnoses through genetic profiling, targeted therapies for conditions like cancer and cardiovascular diseases, and improved preventive care by identifying genetic predispositions to various health conditions. These advances offer the potential for better health outcomes and cost-effective care through early interventions. However, the integration of genomic medicine into public health systems presents several risks, including ethical concerns related to privacy, genetic discrimination, and the protection of sensitive genetic data. The economic challenges associated with the implementation of genomic medicine, such as high costs and potential inequities in access, are also discussed. Additionally, the scientific uncertainty surrounding the interpretation of certain genetic variations poses challenges in clinical applications. This review highlights the need for strong policies and ethical frameworks to ensure the responsible use of genomic data while promoting equitable access to genomic technologies across diverse populations. In conclusion, while genomic medicine holds significant promise, its integration into public health systems requires careful consideration of these risks to maximize its benefits and ensure fairness in access.

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of a 12-week structured exercise program on cognitive function and brain health in older adults. A total of 100 participants aged 60 and above, with no severe cognitive impairment, were randomly assigned to an experimental group (n = 50) and a control group (n = 50). The experimental group participated in a program combining aerobic exercise, resistance training, and balance exercises, while the control group maintained their usual daily activities. Cognitive function was assessed using the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) and Trail Making Test (TMT), and brain health was measured through blood-derived brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) levels and transcranial Doppler ultrasonography to evaluate cerebral blood flow. Pre-test and post-test data were analyzed using paired t-tests, independent samples t-tests, and ANCOVA to account for baseline differences. Results indicated significant improvements in cognitive performance, BDNF levels, and cerebral blood flow in the experimental group compared to the control group (p < 0.05). This study demonstrates that regular, structured exercise can effectively enhance cognitive function and brain health in older adults, addressing a significant gap in the literature regarding the role of multifaceted exercise programs in cognitive aging. These findings suggest that exercise may be a promising intervention to prevent cognitive decline and improve brain health in aging populations.

Abstract

This study explores the role of cognitive strategies in enhancing health outcomes within the Vietnamese healthcare system, addressing a gap in the literature regarding their application in Southeast Asia. A total of 300 participants, including healthcare professionals and patients, were surveyed to assess the use and effectiveness of cognitive strategies such as attention focusing, memory aids, problem-solving approaches, and behavioral reinforcement. The results revealed that attention focusing was the most frequently used strategy (63.3%), followed by memory aids (56.7%), and problem-solving (43.3%). The study found significant positive correlations between cognitive strategies and key health outcomes, including treatment compliance (r = 0.45), lifestyle choices (healthy diet, r = 0.50), and preventive health behaviors (exercise, r = 0.38). Urban participants were more likely to use cognitive strategies compared to their rural counterparts, highlighting the urban-rural divide in healthcare access and strategy implementation. Multiple regression analysis indicated that attention focusing and memory aids significantly predicted treatment compliance, while problem-solving and behavioral reinforcement influenced healthy diet choices and exercise habits. These findings underscore the potential of cognitive strategies to improve health outcomes in Vietnam, emphasizing the need for context-specific interventions that account for cultural and regional differences. The study contributes to the global understanding of cognitive strategies in healthcare, particularly in non-Western contexts, and offers insights for healthcare practitioners and policymakers seeking to implement evidence-based, patient-centered approaches in Vietnam and similar settings.

Abstract

This study explores the impact of health programs on lifestyle changes in diabetic patients, focusing on the role of education, behavioral counseling, and continuous support in improving health outcomes. Diabetes mellitus, a chronic condition affecting millions worldwide, requires effective management strategies to prevent complications such as cardiovascular diseases and kidney failure. A quantitative approach was employed, surveying 300 diabetic patients enrolled in health programs that included nutritional education, physical activity guidelines, and medication adherence support. The study utilized multiple regression and ANOVA to analyze the data. Results revealed significant improvements in dietary compliance, physical activity, medication adherence, and clinical markers such as HbA1c levels, weight, and blood pressure. Behavioral counseling, particularly motivational interviewing and cognitive-behavioral therapy, was found to significantly enhance lifestyle adherence. Additionally, continuous monitoring via telemedicine platforms improved patient engagement and long-term lifestyle changes. These findings highlight the importance of multifaceted interventions in diabetes management and address existing gaps in the literature by identifying the key components of successful health programs. The study also emphasizes the sustainability of lifestyle changes and the growing potential of digital health tools in chronic disease management. However, the research acknowledges limitations such as reliance on self-reported data and the homogeneity of the sample. Future research should explore diverse populations and utilize objective measures of health outcomes to further validate these findings

Abstract

Adolescent smoking remains a significant public health issue globally, with millions of young individuals continuing to smoke despite widespread anti-smoking campaigns. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of smoking cessation programs for adolescents, focusing on reducing smoking frequency, nicotine dependence, and improving quit rates. A total of 200 adolescents participated, with 100 in the experimental group undergoing a comprehensive smoking cessation program combining behavioral therapy and pharmacotherapy, while the control group received standard health education. Results showed that the experimental group experienced a significant reduction in smoking frequency and nicotine dependence, as evidenced by lower scores on the Fagerström Test for Nicotine Dependence (FTND) and self-reported smoking behavior. The quit rate in the experimental group was 55%, compared to 30% in the control group. Furthermore, the program’s integration of mobile health tools and school-based support structures was particularly effective in engaging participants. The findings highlight the importance of multifaceted interventions tailored to the specific needs of adolescents, emphasizing behavioral, pharmacological, and technological support. This study provides valuable insights into the potential of comprehensive, youth-centered smoking cessation programs and advocates for further research into their long-term effectiveness and scalability
