Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of giving Open-Ended questions in cooperative learning model, STAD type, to students’ mathematical problem solving ability. This study was conducted in SMP Santa Theresia Central Jakarta. The method used in this study is quasi-experimental. The technics of data collection of this study are test of mathematical problem solving abilty and Mathematics initial knowledge. The results of this study show that (1) mathematical problem solving abilty of students who are taught by giving Open-Ended questions in cooperative learning model, STAD type, is higher than the abilty of mathematical problem solving of those who are taught by using conventional learning model, (2) there is no interaction between learning model and Mathematics initial knowledge to mathematical problem solving abilty, (3) there is significant difference of mathematical problem solving ability of students who are taught by giving Open-Ended questions in cooperative learning model, STAD type and mathematical problem solving ability of students who are taught by using conventional learning model among student group whose Mathematics intial knowledge is high, (4) there is no significant difference of mathematical problem solving ability of students who are taught by giving Open-Ended questions in cooperative learning model, STAD type and mathematical problem solving ability of students who are taught by using conventional learning model among student group whose Mathematics intial knowledge is low.

Abstract

The current research intends to both identify students’ strategies and clarify the level of students’ number sense expression of primary students in solving problems relating to addition, subtraction, and multiplication of integers. This is a qualitative research. Five respondents are involved which are randomly taken from a primary school in Lombok Island. The data are collected through test. Meanwhile, data analysis utilize three indicators of number senses in order to answer two main research questions. The findings indicate that, firstly, the strategies used by the students to solve problems relating to addition, subtraction, and multiplication are homogenous, routine and standardized which are algorithm or procedure oriented, such as column addition, column subtraction, and column multiplication, respectively. Secondly, according to the four level of number sense expressions ─such as ‘not yet evident’, emerging, expressing, and excelling─, the findings indicate that the students’ level of number sense expression is categorized as ‘not yet evident’, which is the lowest level of the four level.

Abstract

This study aims to develop an interactive quiz on e-learning in Teaching and Learning Mathematics Course by using Wondershare Quiz Creator application. Type of research is a developmental research modified between Rowntree and Tessmer. There are 3 stages in this research namely planning stage, development stage, and evaluation stage. In the process of development, this research involves the experts as validators of interactive quiz developed. The subjects of this study were all students who take Teaching and Learning Mathematics Course in 2016/2017 academic year. The results of this study show that the interactive quiz developed by these researchers was valid based on experts comment on material aspects, media display and instructional design; practice based on research results on a one-on-one scale of testing products on 3 different students and on a small group scale that requires 6 people; and effective in terms of time and economy based on trial results.

Abstract

This research has a purpose to know the student’s difficulties in resolving PISA problems in Change and Relationship content for level 4, 5, and 6 in Junior High School. This is a descriptive research that has a purpose to identify and describe the student’s difficulties in resolving PISA problems in Change and Relationship content for level 4, 5, and 6. The subject of this research are 6 students of IX grade of SMP Negeri 1 Inderalaya. This research used data gathering technique that are written test and interview. The results of this research showed that students resolving PISA problems in Change and Relationship content for level 4, 5, and 6 felt difficult in understanding the problems, transforming real world problems into mathematics structure, solving the mathematics problem and interpreting mathematics solutions into the real world. The results show the difficulty in understanding the problem and transforming real world problems into mathematics structure is more dominant than the other difficulties.

Abstract

In the educational world, the challenge of some universities is to create graduates who are competent in their field. One of the competencies required of graduates of Mathematics Education in STKIP Singkawang is skills in solving math problems correctly and appropriately. According to reality on the ground, there are many students turned out to have any errors in problem-solving algebra. This is because the material Algebra is one area of Mathematics, that is considered difficult. The purpose of this study is to describe and identify errors Algebra students work on the problems and the factors that affect the mistakes made. The results obtained student errors relating to the algebraic concepts of 17.5%, the error associated with the error count of 25.9%, an error in the algorithm deviation of 8.76%, a typing error and the use of the mark by 5.13%, to answer any error of 1.7%, a matter which was not finished at 21.2% and answer questions that are not answered at all by 10.3%. Internal factors affecting the students make mistakes in solving algebra include the physical and psychological factors, but external factors include family and community environment factors.

Abstract

This purpose of study is to know the application of learning Predict, Observe, Explain (POE) and achievement of the ten grade students of SMA Negeri 13 palembang in learning geometry. The subject in grade X MIPA 6 class with 40 students academic year 2015/2016. To collect the data observation and tests were used. The result of study showed that the application of learning POE was very successful in terms of teacher’s activities the activities of the students was conducted with final score 63,54 which categorized average. The result of the students’ achievement was good when Predict, Observe, Explain (POE) study was conducted in topic distance of 3 dimension. From the test, the students who have high score was 2,6%, the students who have good score was 7,7%, the students who have average score was 46,15% and the students who have low score was 43,6 %.
