Abstract

Natural rubber latex products filled with bleached banana skin powder were identified by burying samples in soil. Soil burial was carried out by adding NPK fertilizer and without fertilizer. One of the tests which was carried out was weight loss calculation. Weight loss calculation showed that natural rubber latex products filled with bleached banana skin powder biodegraded faster than natural rubber latex products without filler. The addition of fertilizer also contributed to biodegradability of samples. The other test was FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy) test. The results of FTIR test showed there were structure changes in natural rubber latex which indicated natural rubber latex had been biodegraded.Keywords: biodegradation, bleaching, banana skin powder, natural rubber latex, hydrogen peroxide

Abstract

The effect of exposing bleached banana skin powder-filled natural rubber products to sun light and weather with variation of bleached banana skin powder filler loading. Banana skin powder was dried and bleached with hydrogen peroxide and made into disperse system. Natural rubber latex was compounded with bleached banana skin powder with filler loading of 0 to 20 phr (per hundred rubber). Natural rubber latex products, which were produced, were hung in air and exposed to sun light and weather. The degradation of bleached banana skin powder-filled natural rubber products were evaluated by calculating weight loss of samples and performing Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) test. Natural rubber latex lost weight after exposure to sun light and weather from 1 to 16 weeks due to photo-oxidation process.Keywords: latex, banana skin powder, biodegradation, hydrogen peroxide, weight loss

Abstract

Composite is a combination of two different materials to obtain a material with physical properties and mechanical properties are better than any of its constituent parts. One of the many types of produced composite is composite with powdered natural fiber. This study uses the former polypropylene matrix derived from aqua cup and powdered coconut fiber as filler treated with Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH). The ratio of the matrix and the filler is 85:15. This ratio is the optimum value obtained by the composite tensile strength with some ratios are 100:0, 95:5, 90:10 and 85:15. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the use of an alkaline solution of the resulting composite properties such as impact strength, as well as the effect of degradation test on composite material former polypropylene with powdered coconut fiber as filler. Variation of composite degradation test were 10, 20 and 30 days, and immersion powder for 1 and 2 days. The method used in the manufacture of composites is the method of extrusion. The matrix form of the former polypropylene mixed with coconut fiber powder that has been soaked with NaOH, then mixed in a container, then put into the extruder operating temperature 1750C, printed using a hot press at a temperature of 1750C, and cut into pieces appropriate testing. The results showed that the optimum processing occurs with NaOH for 2 days. The test results showed degradation soaking for 2 days has impact strength values ​​higher than 1 day is equal to 0.086 J / mm at 10 days, 0.048 J / mm at 20 days and 0.052 J / mm at 30 days.Keywords : composite, former polypropylene, coconut fiber, NaOH, degradation test

Abstract

Palm oil mill effluent (POME) production in Indonesia is estimated around 28.7 million ton/year. Generally, POME treatment is done conventionally by using facultative ponds. Aside from the vast usage of land and operational cost, this system also emits greenhouse gases. Eventhough, POME is a potential raw resource in producing biogas. Previous researches were done with anaerobic process to produce biogas, but the waste produced still haven’t met the standard quality control requirements. The total suspended solid (TSS) contained in the waste produced from the anaerobic process is still around 400 mg/L, which is the reason why aerobic process is still necessary to drop the number of TSS contained by using effective microorganism. From the result, a 10 day HRT aerobic process can reduce the number of TSS to around 200 mg/L. Keywords : biogas, TSS, effective microorganism, POME

Abstract

By using a semi-efficient sulfur accelerated vulcanization system, a research about the effect of  the alcanolamide on cure characteristics and hardnes propertiess of natural rubber filled silika and alkanolamide been done. Alcanolamide produced from palm oil derivatives reacted with dietanolamine. Alcanolamide aaded  into  rubber  with levels 1.0, 3.0; 5.0; 7.0; 9.0; phr. It was found that  alcanolamide gave shorter  Scorch time and cure time. Alkanolamide also exhibited higher torque different, tensile moduli, tensile strength, and crosslink density up to  5.0 phr and ten decrease with future increaseing addition of alcanolamide.Keywords: alcanolamide, cure time, Scorch time, crosslink density, vulcanizate natural rubber

Abstract

Pectin is extensively utilized by the food processors especially for conversion of low grade fruits in to good quality products like jam, jelly, marmalade, and candies. Pectin has many applications in food and pharmaceuticals products as gelling agents and stabilizers.  This research aims to utilize banana peel  waste (Musa sapientum) as a source of pectin. The research used a  solvent extraction method using hydrochloric acid (HCl) in additional to  ethanol  to precipitate the pectin and the last step  drying process to obtain dry pectin. The fixed variables which were used in this research were 10 grams of banana peel (Musa sapientum),  10% water content of sample, and hydrochloric acid (HCl) as a solvent. The  extraction process was carried out by pH 1; 1.5, 2; the  time of 70, 80, 90, 100 minutes, and the temperature of 80 oC, 90 oC. The results showed that the highest  yield of the extraction was obtained at  90 oC, pH 1.5  during 80 minutes with  11.93%  water content of 0.79% ash content,  about 600-800mg and 4, 43% methoxyl  content. Abstract

Natural rubber latex waste usually throw away to be unused materials and caused environment issue. One of the ways to handle this environment issue by using natural rubber latex waste as oil adsorbent. Natural rubber latex waste also had oleophilic and hydrophobic properties that are suitable to being used as oil adsorbent. In this research, researchers found out adsorption capacity of natural rubber latex waste to oil and oil from water, also the characteristics of it’s adsorption with Langmuir and Freundlich isoterm adsorption model. The adsorption characteristics of lubricant oil from water with natural rubber latex waste more fitted well with Langmuir isotherm equation model and the maximum adsorption ability of lubricant oil from water with natural rubber latex waste also significantly increased with the contact time till reached the equilibrium. The results of this study concluded that natural rubber latex waste had a great adsorption capacity and suitabled for being used as oil adsorbent.Keywords : natural rubber latex waste, oil in water, adsorption,  adsorption equilibrium, oil adsorbent

Abstract

Cocoa peel extract is a natural inhibitor that can be used to inhibit the corrosion reaction rate. This research begins by extracting cocoa pods by maceration followed by evaporation on rotary vacuum evaporator and extracts used as the inhibitor with concentration 600, 800 and 1000 ppm, using steel 1 × 2 cm and  the thickness is 0,1 cm to determine the corrosion rate and corrosive medias are sea water, rainwater and sulfuric acid 1 M . The highest inhibition efficiency generated is 93,06% with concentration of 600 ppm inhibitor in rainwater corrosive media; which means that cocoa peel extract more efficiently used in rainwater corrosive media. Abstract

Garcinia mangostana peel extract is a natural inhibitor that can be used to inhibit the corrosion reaction rate. This research begins by extracting Garcinia Mangostana pods by maceration followed by evaporation and extracts used as the inhibitor with concentration 600, 800 and 1000 ppm, with the test sample of corrosion is steel 1 × 2 cm with the thickness is 0,1 cm and corrosive medias are sea water, rain water and sulfuric acid 1 M. The highest inhibition efficiency generated is 99,22% with ethanol solvent at concentration of 800 ppm inhibitor in rain water corrosive media; which means that Garcinia mangostana peel extract more efficiently used in rain water corrosive media. Abstract

The use of waste of natural rubber latex with banana sheats powder filler to serve as a more useful product that is used as adsorbent of oil. The process begins with drying the adsorbent manufacture banana and polished up to 100 mesh size. Then the banana powder mixed with waste latex with variations of 10 and 20% (w / w). The analysis of the ability of the adsorbent adsorption isotherms using the Langmuir equation and Freundlich isotherm equation. Research carried out by the batch process and the use of lubricating oil as the adsorbate. The results obtained showed the addition of banana powder as filler waste adsorbent adsorption of latex increases the ability of the oil adsorbent. The conclusion of the analysis showed an increase in the number of characteristics adsroben banana powder can enhance the adsorption of adsorbent.Keywords : natural rubber latex waste, banana sheaths powder, adsorbent oil, adsorption ability
