Abstract

This qualitative case study examines the application of gamification in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) at Aisyiyah Cindogo Bondowoso Elementary School, focusing on the Sirah Nabawiyah material to strengthen character building and learning motivation of elementary school students. Using the Sygma Daya Insani package, the weekly 90-minute Sirah Nabawiyah Club session incorporates game elements—such as points, badges, quests, and collaborative challenges—into three stages: a reflective opening, game-based Exploration, and character dialogue. Data were obtained through participant observation, in-depth interviews with seven informants, document analysis, and focus group discussions. These data were then analyzed thematically with triangulation to ensure validity. The results show significant improvements in five dimensions of Islamic character—self-confidence, caring, honesty, discipline, and empathy—as evidenced by active participation, honest reporting, and positive behavioral changes at home. Gamification transforms passive memorization into an immersive and meaningful learning experience, connecting the exemplary values of the Prophet Muhammad with real-life practices. This research confirms the role of gamification as a differentiated pedagogy that is inclusive and relevant to the needs of 21st-century Islamic Education (PAI). Further research is recommended to develop open-source and low-tech gamification models for broader replication.

Abstract

Memorizing the Qur’an (tahfidz) constitutes a fundamental practice within Islamic education that integrates spiritual discipline with complex cognitive mechanisms. This study investigates the role of long-term memory in tahfidz learning through a cognitive neuroscience framework. Employing a literature review approach, the analysis synthesizes scholarly sources in neuroscience, cognitive psychology, and Islamic pedagogy to elucidate how memory processes—encoding, consolidation, storage, and retrieval—operate in Qur’anic memorization. The reviewed evidence indicates that neural structures including the hippocampus, prefrontal cortex, medial temporal cortex, and amygdala play essential roles in organizing, stabilizing, and retrieving memorized verses. Empirical findings also support the effectiveness of strategies such as spaced repetition, mushaf-based visual mapping, semantic association, and mnemonic patterning in strengthening synaptic connectivity and retention. Furthermore, emotional regulation and spiritual engagement are shown to facilitate memory consolidation via activation of the limbic system, while restorative sleep, peer interaction, and collaborative learning in halaqah settings enhance long-term recall. Collectively, these insights demonstrate that tahfidz represents a holistic neurocognitive process that synergistically integrates devotional motivation, affective states, and memory system dynamics. The study underscores the pedagogical significance of developing neuroscience-informed tahfidz methodologies that align cognitive, emotional, and spiritual elements within instructional design. Future research opportunities include experimental neuroeducation models to quantitatively evaluate the efficacy of memory-enhancement protocols in broader Islamic learning contexts.

Abstract

Islamic education plays a strategic role in preparing a generation that is not only intellectually capable but also socially, spiritually, and ecologically sensitive. In the global context, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) represent a shared agenda that requires the involvement of all sectors, including Islamic educational institutions. This article aims to examine the integration of SDG principles into Islamic education management, with an emphasis on the functions of planning, organizing, implementing, and supervising. The research method employed is library research with a descriptive-qualitative analysis, utilizing both primary and secondary literature related to SDGs and Islamic education management. The findings indicate that the principles of sustainability are essentially aligned with Islamic values, such as maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah and the human responsibility as khalīfah on earth. Such integration can be realized through environmentally based curricula, eco-friendly institutional governance, sustainable economic empowerment, and an academic culture that emphasizes social concern. Therefore, Islamic education management not only serves to produce high-achieving students but also acts as an agent of change toward a more just, prosperous, and sustainable society. This study is expected to contribute to the development of theory and practice in Islamic education management that is relevant to contemporary challenges while supporting the achievement of the SDGs.

Abstract

Philosophy of education plays a crucial role in providing a strong conceptual foundation for the implementation of education. This paper examines the three main foundations of the philosophy of education, namely ontology, epistemology, and axiology, as a philosophical framework for understanding and developing educational practice. Ontologically, education is viewed as a process of humanization based on the nature of learners as beings who possess holistic potential, including physical, intellectual, emotional, social, and spiritual aspects. Epistemologically, education is understood as a process of searching for and developing true knowledge through experience, rational thinking, critical attitudes, and interaction with the environment, so that learners are not merely passive recipients of information but active subjects in constructing knowledge. Axiologically, education is directed toward the formation of values, morals, and character so that the knowledge acquired can be used responsibly for the benefit of life. This study employs a library research method by reviewing various relevant references. The findings indicate that the integration of ontology, epistemology, and axiology produces a holistic, adaptive, and value-oriented concept of education, enabling learners to become intelligent, virtuous, and responsible individuals in both personal and social life.

Abstract

The development of science and technology is inseparable from the fundamental role of the philosophy of science as its conceptual and methodological foundation. Through its three main dimensions, ontology, epistemology, and axiology, the philosophy of science provides direction in determining the objects of scientific inquiry, the methods for obtaining valid knowledge, and the ethical values guiding the application of technology. Ontologically, it defines the nature and boundaries of the reality being studied, thereby encouraging the emergence of new scientific disciplines. Epistemologically, it shapes the framework of systematic and critical scientific methods that underpin modern technological advancements based on empirical research. Axiologically, it ensures that the use of technology remains ethical, responsible, and oriented toward human welfare. Thus, the philosophy of science not only establishes the theoretical foundation for the progress of science and technology, but also ensures that such advancement proceeds in a responsible and sustainable manner.

Abstract

This study discusses Arabic language curriculum management at the elementary school and madrasah ibtidaiyah (SD/MI) levels in Indonesia, emphasizing the four main functions of educational management: planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach based on the analysis of policy documents such as KMA Number 183 and 184 of 2019, SK Dirjen Pendis Number 3302 of 2024, and Permendikbudristek Number 5 and 21 of 2022. The results of the study show that the implementation of the Arabic language curriculum is influenced by internal factors such as teacher competence, institutional support, and availability of facilities, as well as external factors such as government policy, technological developments, and community support. The roles of teachers, school principals, and the government are key to the success of effective, adaptive, and sustainable curriculum management. The main obstacles faced include limited teacher competence, learning facilities, and low student interest in learning Arabic. Therefore, strengthening teacher training, digitizing learning, and cross-institutional collaboration are necessary to realize communicative, contextual Arabic learning that is relevant to the needs of the times.
