Abstract

Background: Posyandu is a community-based health service aimed at improving maternal and child health, organized with the active participation of the community. Objective: This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of education on the benefits of Posyandu in improving the knowledge of mothers with toddlers aged 1–5 years. Methods: A one-group pretest–posttest design was used. The study population consisted of all mothers of toddlers aged 1–5 years at Posyandu Cempaka, Campagaloe Village, within the working area of Campagaloe Health Center. A total of 32 respondents were recruited using total sampling. Knowledge levels were categorized as good, sufficient, or poor, and assessed before and after the educational intervention. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. Results: Before the intervention, 9 respondents (28.1%) had good knowledge and 23 respondents (71.9%) had sufficient knowledge. After the intervention, 18 respondents (56.2%) demonstrated good knowledge and 14 respondents (43.8%) had sufficient knowledge. Statistical analysis showed a significant improvement in knowledge scores after the intervention (p < 0.001). Conclusion: Educational sessions significantly improved mothers’ knowledge about the benefits of Posyandu. Strengthening regular health education activities by local health workers is recommended to further enhance maternal awareness and participation.

Abstract

Background: Disasters are the trigger for the malfunctioning of health services and their facilities. For disaster handling, hospitals must be ready to handle patients in the system to support the handling process. This system is prepared by the implementation of an organizational structure when the disaster management system is activated by the hospital. Objective: To analyze disaster management preparedness at Ibnu Sina Hospital Makassar. Methods:  This descriptive study assessed 25 preparedness components, including organizational structure, team functions, operational procedures, early warning systems, and communication systems. The sample was the head of K3 emergency management. Results:  The study found that the organizational structure and team functions were 50% complete, operational procedures were only 10% complete, the early warning system was 50% complete, and the communication system was 60% complete. Gaps in operational procedures (90% incomplete) and partial readiness in other areas highlight the need for targeted improvements. Conclusion:  Overall, disaster management preparedness at Ibnu Sina Hospital Makassar remains incomplete across key components. Strengthening operational procedures, formalizing team roles, and enhancing early warning and communication systems are essential. Hospital leadership should intensify training and socialization for all disaster management team members.

Abstract

Background: Individuals with diabetes have a 2–6 times higher risk of developing blood clots, which can contribute to cognitive dysfunction. Elevated blood sugar levels can lead to complications in the blood vessels, including those in the central nervous system. Objective: This study aimed to examine the relationship between age, gender, blood sugar levels, and duration of illness with cognitive function in people with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM). Methods: This was an observational analytic study using a cross-sectional design. Results: Statistical analysis showed a significant relationship between age and cognitive function in T2DM patients (p = 0.001, r = –0.859), indicating a very strong negative correlation. No significant relationship was found between gender and cognitive function (p = 0.850, r = –0.037), indicating a very weak correlation. Blood sugar levels were significantly associated with cognitive function (p = 0.001, r = –0.637), reflecting a strong negative correlation. Duration of illness was also significantly related to cognitive function (p = 0.001, r = –0.843), indicating a very strong negative correlation. Conclusion: here is a significant negative correlation between age, blood sugar levels, and duration of illness with cognitive function in T2DM patients, while gender shows no significant relationship. Further studies with additional variables, larger samples, and different methodologies are recommended to strengthen the evidence and provide more comprehensive insights.

Abstract

Background: The high number of hallucinations encourages individuals to be able to recognize hallucination symptoms so that early detection can be known immediately, one of the factors that can create individual coping with hallucinations is the support of family, so the family should be more involved in every nursing action for mental disorders. Objective: The purpose of the study was to determine the relationship between family support and the client's ability to control hallucinations in the Work Area of the Minasatene Health Center, Pangkajene Regency and the Islands in 2024. Methods: This study used an analytical descriptive design with a cross sectional study approach. Results: The results of this study show that there are less than 18 clients who have family support, of which 72.2% are unable to control hallucinations and 27.8% are able to control hallucinations, while clients who have family support are quite 28 clients, of which there are 25.0% who are unable to control hallucinations and 75.0% who are able to control hallucinations. The results of the statistical test with Chi-square obtained a value of ρ=0.004. Conclusion: The conclusion in this study is that there is a relationship between family support and the client's ability to control hallucinations in the Minasatene Health Center Working Area of Pangkajene and Islands Regency in 2021. For this reason, it is hoped that the patient's family needs to increase their concern in providing positive and consistent support to clients to carry out intense control.

Abstract

Background: Stunting is a chronic form of malnutrition caused by prolonged inadequate nutritional intake, leading to impaired growth in children. This condition results in a child’s height being significantly shorter than the standard for their age. The impact of stunting can last a lifetime, affecting cognitive, motor, and verbal development, and may extend to the next generation. Objective: This study aimed to examine the relationship between maternal characteristics and socioeconomic factors with the incidence of stunting among children under five in Palembik Village, within the working area of the Darek Health Center, Southwest Praya District. Methods: This was an analytical study using a cross-sectional design to assess the association between independent variables (maternal characteristics and socioeconomic factors) and the dependent variable (stunting incidence). Data were analyzed using the Chi-square test. Results: Significant relationships were found between several maternal and socioeconomic factors with the incidence of stunting. Maternal age was significantly associated with stunting (p = 0.001), as was maternal height (p = 0.000). Maternal education also showed a significant association (p = 0.002). Among socioeconomic variables, father's education (p = 0.002), father's occupation (p = 0.001), mother's occupation (p = 0.000), and family income (p = 0.000) were all significantly related to stunting incidence. Conclusion: Maternal characteristics including age, height, and education as well as socioeconomic factors such as parental education, parental occupation, and family income, are significantly associated with the incidence of stunting in Palembik Village, Darek Health Center area, Southwest Praya District.
