Abstract

The validity of the sanad (chain of transmission) is a fundamental aspect in hadith studies because it determines the level of authenticity of a narration as a source of Islamic teachings. However, in the digital era, the complexity of narration data and the proliferation of online information pose new challenges in the process of verifying sanad accurately and systematically. This study aims to analyze the authenticity of hadith through a digital isna d mapping approach, a method of mapping the chain of transmission that integrates the principles of classical sanad criticism with relational data-based digital technology. Using a qualitative-descriptive approach and comparative analysis, this study examines several sanad datasets from various digital collections to identify transmission patterns, narrator relationships, and weak points in the chain of transmission. The results show that digital isna d mapping is able to more transparently reveal the structure of the narrator network, detect transmission anomalies, and verify the consistency of relationships between narrators with a high degree of accuracy. The application of this method not only strengthens the methodological dimension in sanad criticism but also presents a technology-based verification model that is efficient, accountable, and compatible with the needs of contemporary hadith studies. In conclusion, this research makes a significant contribution to the revitalization of the epistemology of hadith science through the integration of digital technology in the analysis of the authenticity of sanad, while also opening a new direction for the development of hadith criticism methodology in the digital era.

Abstract

Hadith literacy in the digital era is an urgent need to address the epistemological and cultural challenges faced by Generation Z, who tend to access religious knowledge through digital media without an adequate scientific literacy framework. The phenomenon of technological disruption has prompted the need to reconstruct the approach to hadith literacy to bridge classical scientific traditions with contemporary digital realities. This study aims to develop an artificial intelligence (AI)-based digital hadith literacy model that can strengthen Generation Z’s ability to understand, verify, and contextualize hadith critically and systematically. Using a qualitative-descriptive method through a conceptual design based on the integration of hadith studies and AI technology, this study analyzes in depth four main aspects: the conceptual reconstruction of digital hadith literacy, the integration of AI algorithms in mapping sanad and matan (translations of the narrators), the design of a digital hadith literacy model, and a conceptual test of the feasibility and implications of the model. The results of this study indicate that the development of a digital hadith literacy model can present a new paradigm for hadith learning that is interactive, adaptive, and analytical, where AI acts as an epistemological partner in identifying the validity of sanad (chain of transmission), classifying hadith themes, and presenting scientific data visualizations that facilitate the digital literacy process. Conceptual testing proves that this model has theoretical feasibility and high potential in strengthening the understanding of hadith based on data and context, while simultaneously encouraging the transformation of Islamic literacy of Generation Z towards a more critical, integrative, and oriented towards the authenticity of sources. This research has significant implications for the development of contemporary hadith study methodologies and digital Islamic education strategies based on scientific and authentic principles.

Abstract

The authenticity of hadith, the second most important source of Islamic teachings after the Quran, has become a crucial issue in the digital era, where the massive and unverified flow of information opens up opportunities for distortion, manipulation, and duplication of hadith data in cyberspace. Challenges to the validity of hadith data require a digital mapping and verification system capable of ensuring the integrity of the sanad (transmitted text) and matan (transmitted text) in a multi-layered manner. This study aims to develop a blockchain-based hadith data mapping model as an innovative effort to maintain the authenticity, transparency, and security of hadith information in the digital ecosystem. Using a qualitative descriptive-analytical method, this study relies on data sourced from the latest academic literature on hadith digitization and blockchain technology. Data analysis was conducted using a content analysis and conceptual synthesis approach to formulate a conceptual model for hadith mapping that is adaptive to blockchain characteristics. The results show that the application of blockchain technology can provide a decentralized, immutable, and transparent hadith data storage and distribution system, where each blockchain serves as an authentic record of sanad and matan transactions that cannot be changed or falsified. This technology enables chronological and verifiable tracing of the origins of hadith and strengthens smart contract-based digital validation mechanisms. Theoretically, this research enriches the body of digital hadith knowledge by integrating cutting-edge technological paradigms into the study of hadith authenticity. Practically, the results provide new directions for developing a more secure, credible, and future-oriented implementation model for a digital hadith literacy system.

Abstract

The digitization of hadith manuscripts is a strategic step in preserving and disseminating Islamic intellectual treasures. Still, this process faces significant challenges related to the accuracy of classical Arabic text recognition using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology. The complexity of Arabic orthography, the diversity of calligraphic styles, and the presence of diacritics and ligatures typical of classical manuscripts often lead to errors in character recognition, which impact the reliability of the digitization results. This study aims to analyze the accuracy of various OCR systems in reading hadith manuscripts, identify the main linguistic constraints that cause distortions in letter and word recognition, and develop an optimization model based on linguistic and computational integration to improve system performance. Using a mixed methods approach, this study combines quantitative analysis of text processing results from several popular OCR platforms with qualitative analysis of linguistic error patterns that appear in classical Arabic manuscripts. The results show that the accuracy of OCR for hadith manuscripts varies widely, ranging from 68% to 91%, depending on image quality, calligraphy type, and the system’s ability to recognize morphological forms and punctuation typical of classical Arabic. The most common errors occur in letters with graphemic similarities, such as “س” and “ش,” as well as in words with full vowels or complex Iʻrāb markings. An optimization model developed through a combination of machine learning and Arabic morphological analysis has been shown to improve accuracy by up to 94%, while accelerating the post-correction process for digital texts. In conclusion, the digitization of hadith manuscripts requires an integrative approach between OCR technology and an understanding of classical Arabic linguistics to ensure the validity, efficiency, and sustainability of digital religious manuscript preservation.

Abstract

This article comprehensively examines the relationship between the Quran, Hadith, and modern technology in the context of the spread of Islamic teachings in cyberspace, highlighting the potential of digital da’wah as well as the accompanying epistemological and ethical challenges. This research is motivated by the fundamental transformation in religious communication patterns resulting from the digital revolution, which has enabled Islamic texts, especially the Quran and Hadith, to be widely disseminated through highly accessible online platforms, but also presents the risk of disinformation and the degradation of scholarly authority. The purpose of this research is to analyze the extent to which digital technology can be optimized in transmitting Islamic values authenticly and authentically and to identify problems that arise in the process of digitizing Islamic teaching sources. The method used is a qualitative study with a content analysis approach to various digital da’wah platforms, Quran and Hadith applications, and scientific literature related to digital religion and Islamic communication studies. The results show that the integration of information technology in the spread of Islamic teachings has great potential to expand the reach of da’wah, increase religious literacy, and strengthen global community connectivity. However, the results also indicate the emergence of serious challenges such as the distortion of the meaning of religious texts due to social media algorithms, the decline of the authority of religious scholars in the digital space, and interpretive bias due to the use of artificial intelligence without scientific validation. Thus, the study’s conclusions emphasize the need for an Islamic digital literacy model based on Islamic epistemological principles and Quranic communication ethics so that technology becomes not only a means of dissemination but also a guardian of the authenticity of God’s message in the digital age.

Abstract

The urgency of emotion management in contemporary society is increasingly prominent, as evidenced by the rising incidence of interpersonal violence and the growing prevalence of emotion regulation disorders reported in global epidemiological surveys. Therefore, an integrated ethical and psychological foundation is needed to formulate adaptive anger management strategies. This study aims to analyze the normative meaning structure of the hadith prohibiting anger through critical textual analysis and to integrate these findings with contemporary emotion regulation theory to formulate a therapeutic framework for further testing. Using a qualitative-analytical approach, this study examines hadith texts on anger from major hadith collections through inductive thematic analysis and cross-validation, then connects them to models of emotion regulation such as cognitive control, reappraisal, response inhibition, and adaptive coping strategies. The study shows that the hadith prohibiting anger contains three core dimensions: strengthening impulse control, internalizing self-awareness, and activating volition as the basis for adaptive behavior. These dimensions are consistent with psychological mechanisms such as cognitive monitoring of emotional triggers, restructuring the interpretation of frustrating situations, inhibiting aggressive responses, and selecting more prosocial behavioral alternatives. The integration of the two results in a values-based therapeutic framework that emphasizes reflective awareness, moral principle-based self-control, and cognitive-behavioral modification techniques as the foundation for anger management interventions. This research contributes to strengthening the theoretical foundation for the relationship between hadith ethics and emotion regulation by offering a model with potential therapeutic application. However, further empirical testing is still needed.

Abstract

The increasing prevalence of work-related stress, social uncertainty, and cognitive overload in modern society demands the development of religious coping strategies that are not only normative but also have a testable scientific basis, especially since there is still a lack of a conceptual model that integrates religious teachings with neuropsychological evidence. This study aims to formulate a conceptual model of religious coping based on tawakkal (religious trust), based on an analysis of the authenticity and meaning structure of hadiths, and to synthesize empirical evidence from the psychology of religion and neuroscience to explain the neuropsychological mechanisms of stress reduction associated with the practice of faith and submission to God. The study employed an integrative study design that included an analysis of the text of the ṣaḥīḥ hadith using sanad-matn criteria, a review of the psychology of religion literature from major databases such as PubMed and Scopus, and a synthesis of neuroimaging findings and stress biomarkers using a thematic synthesis approach. The results indicate that tawakkal functions as an active coping strategy that involves realistic cognitive appraisal, restructuring meaning by shifting perceptions of personal burden, strengthening a sense of control through belief in causal regularity, and internalizing adaptive expectations. Neuropsychological synthesis shows that religious practices consistent with the concept of tawakkal are associated with decreased amygdala activity, which reduces threat perception, increased prefrontal cortex involvement in emotion regulation, and activation of the reward system, which produces calm and adaptive motivation. These mechanisms contribute to decreased rumination, greater affective stability, and increased psychological resilience, thus making tawakkal a significant potential basis for developing religious coping theory and values-based psychological interventions.

Abstract

The phenomenon of overthinking in adolescents shows a significant increase, as indicated by a UNICEF report that noted an increase in anxiety symptoms in the 15–19 age group, primarily triggered by academic pressure, intense digital media use, and emotional instability during developmental transitions. This condition requires interventions that are not only cognitive but also rooted in values that can shape a more in-depth adaptive perspective. This study aims to describe the formulation of the concept of ḥusn al-Ẓan in primary hadith sources according to authenticity criteria and to design a conceptually relevant cognitive–spiritual intervention model to reduce adolescents’ tendency toward overthinking. The research method uses a qualitative-descriptive approach, tracing hadith from the Kutub al-Tisʻah, applying thematic analysis, and then mapping them against modern psychological frameworks, specifically cognitive reframing, emotional regulation, and positive attribution. The results show that ḥusn al-Ẓan provides a systematic cognitive restructuring framework through strengthening adaptive beliefs, reducing negative bias, increasing tolerance for uncertainty, and forming positive attributions towards oneself, situations, and others. These findings yield an intervention model that includes identifying maladaptive thought patterns, internalizing the principle of ḥusn al-Ẓan based on hadith texts, guided reflective practice, and positive reinterpretation strategies. Conceptually, this model has the potential to reduce rumination frequency, improve emotional regulation, and strengthen mental resilience in adolescents. Although not yet empirically tested, this model offers a robust conceptual foundation for developing preventive interventions rooted in Islamic values and encourages further research through quasi-experimental testing.

Abstract

The increasing pressures of modern life, characterized by fluctuating social demands, economic instability, and rising psychological distress, call for more integrative coping strategies; however, the systematic study of patience in the hadith as a comprehensive coping framework remains underexplored, thus opening up new research opportunities. This study aims to analyze the representation of patience in the hadith thematically and interpret it as a coping mechanism encompassing emotional, cognitive-behavioral, and spiritual dimensions in dealing with life’s pressures. The method employed is qualitative research with thematic analysis, which involves selecting hadiths from the main books based on the relevance of the theme, initial coding, thematic categorization, and cross-disciplinary interpretation through Islamic psychology literature and coping theory to build an integrative understanding. The results of the study indicate three main themes: first, patience as emotional management, as evident in the hadiths regarding anger control, regulating affective responses, reducing impulsive reactivity, and establishing emotional stability; second, patience as a rationalization of adaptive actions, as evident in the hadiths that emphasize firmness in clear thinking, proportional assessment of difficult situations, strengthening realistic mindsets, and establishing constructive behavior; third, patience as the foundation of spiritual strength, through hadith that lead to positive meaning, value orientation, and inner peace that increase empowerment in facing stress. In conclusion, this study presents a new synthesis between thematic hadith studies and psychological coping models, offering both theoretical contributions and practical relevance for developing coping approaches tailored to the context of modern society.

Abstract

The increasing prevalence of sleep disorders, which directly impacts the decline of modern mental health, indicates a gap in the technical approach to sleep hygiene, which lacks a foundation in values. Therefore, a conceptual contribution based on normative traditions is needed to strengthen healthy sleep practices. This study aims to identify ethical themes related to sleep in the hadith and formulate a conceptual model of sleep hygiene based on prophetic values that align with contemporary principles of mental health. Using a qualitative literature study method, the study employs a systematic thematic analysis of hadiths from Kutub al-Tisʻah, involving initial coding, categorization, and cross-source integration, accompanied by triangulation of health psychology literature as a connecting framework. The results show five consistent and recurring ethical themes in the hadith texts: first, regulating sleep-wake rhythms in harmony with natural cycles; second, moderation of sleep duration as a form of physiological discipline; third, pre-sleep etiquette including physical hygiene, psychological calm, stimulus reduction, and preparation routines; fourth, choosing a safe and stable sleeping position to support physiological regulation; and fifth, orientation to self-awareness through prayer, introspection, and spiritual framing that organizes mental readiness. These five themes can be systematically mapped to the components of modern sleep hygiene, including circadian regulation, sleep environment management, routine stability, and pre-sleep stress management. This integration yields a three-component model that emphasizes the synchronization of biological rhythms, reinforces behavioral discipline, and promotes the internalization of value-based preventive habits. This provides a theoretical foundation for the development of behavioral interventions and mental health promotion, which warrants further empirical testing.
