Abstract

Novel is well-known as one of the narrative structure literature works. Novel is an invented prose narrative of significant length and complexity that deals imaginatively with human experience, usually through a connected sequence of events involving a group of persons in a specific setting. Teen novel or young adult literature is initially defined as written for readers from 12 to 18 years of age. The genres available in young adult fiction are expansive and include most of those found in adult fiction. Common themes related to young adult fiction include friendship, first love, relationships, and identity. In this research, the researcher chose one of the famous young adult novels series the Mates, Dates series by famous young adult or teen novels author Cathy Hopkins. The current research was aimed to translate Hopkins’ Mates, Dates, and Chocolate Cheats into Indonesian. Following the procedure (a) analysis, (b) design, (c) development, (4) expert validation, and (e) evaluation, the writer translates the novel into in an interesting and easy to understand Indonesia novel for the teenagers. The instruments used for expert validation and evaluation were online questionnaires. The result of the expert validations and evaluation shows that this translation is a good translation in Indonesian.

Abstract

Vocational college students need to always upgrade their skills to be able to catch up with the demand of theindustry in which they would work. One way of doing it is by practicing their skills based on the learned theories and the guide of relevant expert advisor. The project is research and development. Developing Guidebook for visitors of Bentar Beach to Improve Their Experience is my final project. The guidebook is needed to find out interesting places in Bentar Beach tourist attractions, and also to know the history of Bentar Beach tourist attractions. The project was based on a preliminary study conducted in Bentar Beach Probolinggo. The project focused on developing a guidebook in bilingual, Englishand Indonesian versions, which can help foreign and domestic tourists to get to Bentar Beach easily. In developed this product, the writer adapted procedure of making guidebook from Richey & Klein (2014). In conducting this final project, the writer applied the language and writing skills that got in English Study Program, State Polytechnic of Malang. This research findings are especially beneficial for developing guidebook and students of D3 Program in Applied English at State Polytechnic of Malang. The findings offer possible solutions for similar problems they encounterduring making a guidebook.
Developing a Mini Bilingual Encyclopedia of Ethnic Cuisine in East Java Salsabila Farahdiba Arofah

Abstract

In this study, the author uses the DDR research design from Richey and Klein 2013 because it focuses on the development and validation of a product so that it is very relevant to the research conducted by the author. This research design involves five stages: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. As well as in this study, the authors used interviews, questionnaires, and observation. The result of this research is a mini bilingual encyclopedia of ethnic cuisines in East Java which contains 25 kinds of ethnic cuisines in 17 cities/districts in East Java. The contents of the encyclopedia include an introduction, a guide to using the encyclopedia, a table of contents, a bibliography, a brief description and geographic map of East Java, and a description of each ethnic cuisine, including (name, origin, history, main ingredient, shop), pictures of each cuisine, and QR code feature that can directly connect to the YouTube that shows additional information about ethnic cuisines. This product is available in two languages, Indonesian and English, so that young Indonesians and foreigners/international students can access this product. The final result is that the mini bilingual encyclopedia of ethnic cuisines in East Java is presented in two versions, namely the printed encyclopedia and e-book, making it easy for the respondents to access this encyclopedia effectively according to their wishes. Therefore, this product received positive responses from various respondents regarding the quality of the encyclopedia, which has greatly helped them in getting to know the ethnic cuisines in East Java.

Abstract

Museum Gubug Wayang stands as the sole museum in Mojokerto City, boasting an array of collections ranging from Wayang and Traditional Heirloom to Si Unyil's Puppet, Artefact Mojopahit, and Batik Nusantara. The museum attracts a diverse range of visitors, including both local and international tourists. However, an issue arose as the collections' labels were exclusively printed in Indonesian, posing difficulties for foreign tourists to comprehend the displays effectively. To address this, the museum sought to develop bilingual labelling in both Indonesian and English for their collections.  The research adopted a qualitative approach, utilizing the DDR (Design and Development Research) method, with Museum Gubug Wayang Mojokerto serving as the setting. The study successfully resulted in bilingual labels placed beneath the museum's collections. Respondents confirmed that these labels were easy to comprehend and greatly aided them in obtaining information about the exhibits at the museum.

Abstract

Kampoeng Heritage Kajoetangan Malang, a potential home to a tourist magnet in Malang, is an tourismt asset that has not been marketed well. Unfortunately, the local administration and inhabitants have not fully tapped into the area’s prospective revenue streams. The number of visitors is still low. A bilingual guidebook is one of the solutions to improve the number. Based on this background, the objective of the research was to create a bilingual guidebook for Kampoeng Heritage Kajoetangan Malang to improve visitors’ experience.The researcher employed research and development paradigm and used Borg and Gall’s developmental framework to craft a bilingual guidebook (in both Indonesian and English) for Kampoeng Heritage Kajoetangan Malang. Expert evaluations revealed favourable outcomes. Subsequent field trials confirmed the guidebook’s utility, affirming its capacity to improve visitor experiences and provided comprehensive locale-related information.
