Abstract

Low self-esteem is one of the most prevalent psychosocial problems among individuals with mental disorders and is closely associated with impaired social functioning, decreased motivation, and delayed recovery. Patients experiencing low self-esteem often exhibit withdrawal behaviors, reduced participation in therapeutic activities, and negative self-perception, which may further worsen their clinical condition. Therefore, effective psychosocial nursing interventions are essential to enhance patients’ self-concept and support holistic recovery. One such intervention is Group Activity Therapy (GAT), which facilitates interaction, emotional expression, and peer support within a structured group setting. This study aimed to examine the effect of Group Activity Therapy on self-esteem among patients with mental disorders at Mutiara Sukma Mental Hospital, West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. A quasi-experimental study with a one-group pretest–posttest design was conducted involving 30 participants selected using purposive sampling. Self-esteem was measured using the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES), which demonstrated good reliability (Cronbach’s α = 0.82). Data were analyzed using the Shapiro–Wilk test to assess normality and paired sample t-test to evaluate differences before and after the intervention. Effect size was calculated using Cohen’s d. The results showed a statistically significant improvement in self-esteem scores, with the mean increasing from 18.40 ± 3.25 at baseline to 24.90 ± 3.10 after the intervention (p < 0.001). The effect size was large (Cohen’s d = 1.89), indicating a substantial clinical impact. These findings suggest that Group Activity Therapy is an effective psychosocial intervention to improve self-esteem among patients with mental disorders. Integrating GAT into routine psychiatric nursing care may enhance psychosocial rehabilitation outcomes and contribute to more comprehensive mental health services.

Abstract

Tuberculosis remains a major public health problem worldwide and continues to contribute significantly to morbidity and mortality, particularly in developing countries. Limited public knowledge regarding tuberculosis transmission and prevention often leads to delayed diagnosis and inadequate preventive practices within communities. Health education provided by nurses is considered an important strategy to improve community awareness and promote preventive behaviors against tuberculosis. This study aimed to determine the effect of a health education intervention on community knowledge regarding tuberculosis prevention in Tanak Beak Village, within the working area of UPT Puskesmas Narmada. This study used a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest approach. The participants consisted of 30 community members selected using purposive sampling techniques. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire that measured knowledge of tuberculosis prevention before and after the health education intervention. The educational session was delivered by nurses using lectures, discussions, and visual educational media. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics and a paired sample t-test to determine differences in knowledge scores before and after the intervention. The results showed that the mean knowledge score before the intervention was 56.3, indicating a moderate level of knowledge among respondents, while after the health education intervention the mean score increased to 82.7, reflecting a substantial improvement in community understanding of tuberculosis prevention. Statistical analysis demonstrated a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores (p < 0.05), indicating that the intervention was effective in increasing knowledge levels. In conclusion, nurse-led health education interventions play an important role in strengthening community knowledge and awareness related to tuberculosis prevention. Continuous community-based health promotion programs are recommended to support tuberculosis control efforts and reduce disease transmission.

Abstract

Hepatitis B remains a major global health concern, particularly among pregnant women because of the risk of transmission from mother to child. Early detection through Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) screening during antenatal care is considered an important preventive measure to reduce the possibility of vertical transmission and its long-term consequences for infants. However, the level of knowledge among pregnant women may influence their willingness to undergo the recommended screening. This study aimed to examine the relationship between pregnant women's knowledge about hepatitis B and their compliance with HBsAg screening during antenatal care services at UPT Puskesmas Sekotong, West Lombok Regency. A quantitative analytic study with a cross-sectional approach was conducted involving pregnant women who attended antenatal care services at the health center. Data on respondents’ knowledge regarding hepatitis B were collected using a structured questionnaire, while compliance with HBsAg screening was obtained from maternal health records. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the chi-square test to determine the association between the variables. The findings indicated that most respondents had moderate to good knowledge regarding hepatitis B infection and its prevention. A majority of pregnant women had undergone HBsAg screening during antenatal visits. Statistical analysis showed a significant relationship between the level of knowledge of pregnant women and their compliance with HBsAg screening (p < 0.05). Pregnant women who possessed better knowledge were more likely to participate in the screening process. These findings highlight the importance of strengthening health education during antenatal care to increase maternal awareness and encourage early detection of hepatitis B infection in pregnancy.

Abstract

Infectious diseases remain a significant public health concern in Indonesia, requiring comprehensive prevention strategies that involve community participation. Community health volunteers (health cadres) play a crucial role as intermediaries between health services and the community in implementing promotive and preventive health programs. This study aimed to analyze the role of health cadres in supporting infectious disease prevention programs in the working area of Batuyang Public Health Center, East Lombok Regency. This research employed a descriptive analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of all active health cadres in the Batuyang Public Health Center area, and a total sampling technique was used to recruit 60 respondents. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis was conducted using univariate analysis to describe respondent characteristics and bivariate analysis using the Chi-square test to examine the relationship between variables. The results showed that most health cadres had good knowledge regarding infectious disease prevention (65%), demonstrated positive attitudes toward prevention programs (70%), and actively participated in community health activities (68%). Statistical analysis indicated a significant relationship between cadres’ knowledge level and their role in infectious disease prevention activities (p < 0.05). These findings highlight that health cadres play an essential role in supporting infectious disease prevention programs at the community level. Strengthening the capacity of health cadres through continuous training and supervision is necessary to enhance the effectiveness of community-based health interventions.

Abstract

Hypertension remains one of the leading non-communicable diseases contributing significantly to global morbidity and mortality, particularly in developing countries such as Indonesia. Lifestyle factors are widely recognized as major determinants influencing the occurrence of hypertension, yet evidence at the primary healthcare level is still limited in specific local contexts. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between lifestyle factors and the incidence of hypertension among adult patients at Puskesmas Bagu, Central Lombok Regency. A quantitative study with a cross-sectional design was conducted involving adult patients who visited the primary healthcare facility. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire to assess lifestyle variables, including dietary patterns, physical activity, smoking habits, and sleep patterns, while blood pressure measurements were obtained using standard clinical procedures. The sampling technique employed was purposive sampling, and data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate statistical tests to determine the association between variables. The results indicated that a significant proportion of respondents had unhealthy lifestyle behaviors, particularly in terms of high salt intake, low physical activity, and smoking habits. Statistical analysis revealed a significant relationship between lifestyle factors and the incidence of hypertension (p < 0.05), suggesting that individuals with unhealthy lifestyles were more likely to develop hypertension compared to those with healthier behaviors. These findings highlight the critical role of lifestyle modification in the prevention and management of hypertension at the primary healthcare level. Therefore, it is recommended that healthcare providers, especially nurses, strengthen health education and promote behavioral interventions targeting modifiable risk factors to reduce the burden of hypertension in the community.
