Abstract

This study analyzes the issue of gender equality and the role of women in development in Berau Regency, East Kalimantan, with a qualitative descriptive approach based on secondary data. The study found that while women's involvement in development is increasing – including the presence of women leaders in local government – there are a number of gender issues, such as lower female labour force participation, limited representation in strategic positions, and cultural norms that hinder equality. The Berau Regency Government has implemented various gender-responsive policies, including gender mainstreaming (PUG) in regional planning through RPJMD and local regulations (Perda and Perbup), as well as innovative programs such as Women-Friendly Villages and Child Care. Through the analysis of the literature and BPS data, this study recommends strengthening the implementation of PUG, increasing women's participation in the public and economic sectors, and disaggregated data-based monitoring and evaluation frameworks.

Abstract

This research aims to examine how production quality influences customer satisfaction, with service quality acting as a mediating variable within the e-commerce sector in Bulungan Regency, North Kalimantan. The rise in digital transactions in this area has been accompanied by frequent customer complaints related to both product quality and service, highlighting the need for an empirical investigation into the factors shaping customer satisfaction. The study adopts a quantitative approach using the Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) technique with the WarpPLS 8.0 software. The sample consists of 75 active e-commerce users in Bulungan Regency, selected through purposive sampling. The findings reveal that production quality positively and significantly affects customer satisfaction and also has a positive effect on service quality. In addition, service quality positively and significantly impacts customer satisfaction and serves as a mediator in the relationship between production quality and customer satisfaction. These results underscore that enhancing product quality must be accompanied by improvements in service quality to achieve long-term customer satisfaction in e-commerce markets within developing regions.

Abstract

This study investigates community perceptions of BPJS Employment socialization conducted by community service students in Semurut Village, Berau Regency. Using a qualitative approach, data were collected through observations and in-depth interviews with 23 informants representing informal workers. The findings show that the community generally perceived the socialization positively due to the use of simple language, approachable communication, and the relevance of BPJS Employment to their daily work risks. However, participants noted challenges in understanding technical terms and expressed the need for repeated explanations and practical demonstrations. Factors influencing perceptions included limited prior knowledge, the communicative style of the facilitators, and the perceived usefulness of the program. Participants recommended follow-up sessions, printed materials, visual examples, and involvement of BPJS officers. These results align with previous studies highlighting the importance of contextualized, continuous, and trust-based communication in social protection outreach.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of swiftlet nest farming on the income improvement of the community in Merancang Village, Berau Regency. The research employed a quantitative approach with a survei method involving 30 swiftlet farmers selected through total sampling. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed through validity, reliability, and normality tests, as well as simple linear regression and t-test. The results show a strong positive relationship between swiftlet nest farming and community income improvement, with a correlation coefficient of 0.839. The regression equation obtained is Y = 7.087 + 0.969X, indicating that each one-unit increase in swiftlet nest farming contributes to a 0.969-unit increase in community income. The t-test result (t-count = 8.168 > t-table = 1.703; sig. = 0.000 < 0.05) confirms that the hypothesis is accepted. Thus, swiftlet nest farming significantly contributes to enhancing the income and economic well-being of the local community.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to determine the effect of cooperatives and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) on community welfare in Berau Regency. This study applies a quantitative method using secondary time series data from 2015 to 2024. The analytical model used is multiple linear regression. The results show that the hypotheses are rejected. Partially, the number of cooperatives does not have a significant effect on community welfare, as indicated by the t-test significance value of 0.951 > 0.05. Likewise, the number of MSMEs also does not have a significant partial effect on community welfare, with a t-test significance value of 0.051 > 0.05. Simultaneously, both the number of cooperatives and MSMEs do not have a significant effect on community welfare, as shown by the F-test significance value of 0.56 > 0.05. This indicates that the quantity of business units alone is not sufficient to improve welfare without improvements in quality, productivity, and effectiveness of economic activities.
