Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the pivotal role of community nurses in public health, particularly within local communities. This article examines the expanded responsibilities of community nurses in the post-pandemic era, focusing on their essential contributions to healthcare delivery, mental health support, health education, and chronic disease management. With an increased demand for long-term health monitoring for COVID-19 survivors, community nurses have become integral in guiding patients through rehabilitation and managing persistent symptoms. Their role in health education and prevention has also grown, as they educate communities on hygiene practices and vaccination to prevent future outbreaks. Additionally, community nurses provide critical mental health support and assist in the management of chronic conditions that have intensified post-pandemic. The article concludes by emphasizing the importance of supporting and investing in community nurses to strengthen public health infrastructure and prepare for future health crises.

Abstract

Background: Continuity of care for individuals with mental disorders after hospitalization is essential to prevent relapse and support long-term recovery, particularly within primary health care settings. Nurses play a key role in ensuring continuity of care; however, they often encounter challenges related to workload, limited resources, inadequate mental health training, and systemic constraints. Objective: This study aimed to explore nurses’ experiences in providing continuity of care for patients with mental disorders following hospital discharge in primary health care settings. Methods: A qualitative descriptive study design was employed. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with registered nurses working in primary health care facilities. Participants were selected using purposive sampling. The interview data were analyzed using thematic analysis to identify patterns and key themes related to nurses’ experiences in delivering continuity of care. Results: Four main themes emerged from the analysis: building therapeutic relationships, resource constraints and workload, professional development needs, and systemic barriers. Nurses emphasized the importance of trust, empathy, and ongoing communication in maintaining continuity of care. However, high workloads, limited human and material resources, insufficient specialized mental health training, and structural limitations within the health system were reported as major barriers that hindered consistent and comprehensive care delivery. Conclusion: Continuity of care for patients with mental disorders in primary health care settings remains challenged by individual, organizational, and systemic factors. Strengthening nurses’ capacity through targeted mental health training, improving staffing and resource allocation, and implementing supportive policies are crucial to enhance continuity of care and improve mental health outcomes.

Abstract

Background: The recent rise in monkeypox cases has highlighted the urgent need for improved preparedness within healthcare systems, particularly at the community level. Community health nurses play a critical role in early detection, prevention, and outbreak management; however, emerging infectious diseases such as monkeypox pose new challenges related to knowledge gaps, emotional responses, and system readiness. Objective: This study aimed to explore community health nurses’ perceptions, knowledge, and preparedness in managing monkeypox cases. Methods: A qualitative descriptive study design was employed. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with community health nurses working in primary health care centers in. Participants were selected using purposive sampling based on their involvement in community health and infectious disease services. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis to identify key patterns and themes related to nurses’ experiences and preparedness in managing monkeypox. Results: Four main themes emerged: awareness and knowledge of monkeypox, perceived risk and emotional response, preparedness and training needs, and barriers to effective response. Although most nurses demonstrated general awareness of monkeypox, gaps in disease-specific knowledge and practical training were evident. These limitations contributed to feelings of anxiety, uncertainty, and reduced confidence in managing potential cases. In addition, systemic barriers such as delayed resource allocation and inconsistent communication were identified as factors hindering effective outbreak response. Conclusion: Community health nurses’ preparedness to manage monkeypox remains suboptimal due to gaps in knowledge, training, and system support. Strengthening preparedness through targeted education, improved access to resources, and clear communication mechanisms is essential to enhance outbreak response and support community health nurses in managing future emerging infectious diseases.

Abstract

Background: Effective diabetes management requires consistent dietary adherence to achieve optimal glycemic control and prevent long-term complications. Family support plays a crucial role in influencing dietary behaviors among patients with diabetes, particularly in community settings where self-management is largely carried out at home. Objective: This study aimed to examine the relationship between family support and dietary compliance among patients with diabetes in a community setting. Methods: A quantitative cross-sectional study was conducted involving 200 patients with diabetes recruited from community health centers. Participants were selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data were collected using structured questionnaires that included demographic characteristics and standardized instruments to measure family support and dietary adherence. Data analysis was performed using Pearson’s correlation test to assess the association between family support and dietary compliance. Results: The analysis revealed a statistically significant positive correlation between family support and dietary compliance (r = 0.58; p = 0.002). Patients who reported higher levels of family support demonstrated better adherence to recommended dietary regimens compared to those with lower levels of support. Conclusion: Family support is significantly associated with dietary compliance among patients with diabetes. Strengthening family involvement through community-based and family-centered nursing interventions may enhance dietary adherence and contribute to improved diabetes management outcomes.

Abstract

The increasing aging population has heightened the need for effective management strategies that support functional independence among older adults. Functional independence, defined as the ability to perform daily activities autonomously, is crucial for maintaining quality of life in the elderly. This article discusses essential aspects of optimizing elderly management, emphasizing the role of gerontological nursing. Key strategies include addressing polypharmacy, promoting exercise interventions, implementing technological solutions such as smart home systems, and encouraging skill development. These approaches enable elderly individuals to sustain autonomy and reduce dependence on continuous supervision, thereby enhancing their dignity and well-being. By integrating these strategies, gerontological nursing can significantly contribute to improving the quality of life and independence among the elderly, meeting the demands of a growing demographic.
