Abstract

Ecosystem degradation and increasing dependence on fruit supplies from outside the region have become significant environmental and public health challenges in Jember Regency. Land-use conversion, vegetation loss, and long distribution chains not only reduce environmental quality but also affect fruit quality, community health, and local economic stability. This community service activity aimed to enhance public awareness of the importance of adopting a green lifestyle for healthy living while providing practical education on sustainable fruit planting and maintenance techniques. The activity employed a participatory approach with site selection based on purposive sampling in Sukorejo Village, Bangsalsari District, Jember Regency. Participants included members of the Branch and Sub-Branch Boards of Fatayat NU Jember Regency. The program consisted of environmental socialization sessions, hands-on fruit seed planting activities, and the distribution of 2,000 fruit seedlings to participants. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation and analyzed using descriptive qualitative methods. The findings indicate active participant involvement throughout all stages of the program and an increased understanding of the ecological, health, and food security benefits of fruit tree cultivation. Moreover, participants demonstrated the potential to act as agents of change by disseminating green lifestyle practices within their communities. The implications of this activity suggest that participatory fruit planting initiatives can serve as an effective strategy to strengthen environmental awareness, promote healthier living conditions, and support sustainable local economic empowerment through community-based food independence.

Abstract

The quality of basic education is strongly influenced by the effectiveness of school work program planning that is systematic, measurable, and aligned with quality standards. In practice, however, many Integrated Islamic Elementary Schools (Sekolah Dasar Islam Terpadu/SDIT) still face limitations in developing annual school work programs that are fully integrated with the National Education Standards and principles of quality management. This community service activity aimed to strengthen school management capacity in developing quality-based school work programs through structured training and mentoring at SDIT Ar Ruhul Jadid Jombang. The activity employed a participatory and contextual approach, implemented through interactive workshops and intensive technical mentoring involving the principal, teachers, and educational staff. Data were collected using pre-tests and post-tests, direct observation, document analysis, and participant response questionnaires. The results indicate a significant improvement in participants’ conceptual understanding of education quality, Total Quality Management, and the National Education Standards, as reflected in the increase of the average score from 58.7 in the pre-test to 85.2 in the post-test. In addition, participants demonstrated enhanced technical skills in formulating school work programs that are more systematic, measurable, and aligned with quality indicators. The main output of this activity was a draft of a quality-based annual school work program that is ready for implementation. The findings imply that structured training and mentoring can effectively strengthen a school’s quality culture and managerial effectiveness, while also offering a practical and replicable model of community service for improving quality-oriented school management in Integrated Islamic Elementary Schools.

Abstract

This community service program aimed to strengthen entrepreneurial creativity and business awareness among members of the PKK women’s group in Kemplong Village, Pekalongan, through hands-on training in aromatherapy candle production as a form of locally based creative economic activity. The primary challenges faced by the community included limited productive skills, underutilization of household resources, and a lack of innovative income-generating initiatives with added economic value. The program employed a participatory and practice-oriented approach, encompassing needs assessment, coordination with local stakeholders, preparation of training modules, delivery of foundational materials, practical demonstrations of candle-making, mentoring through reflective discussions, and evaluation of outcomes. The results indicate a significant improvement in participants’ knowledge and skills in independently producing aromatherapy candles, accompanied by increased motivation and self-confidence to initiate home-based businesses. Participants successfully created candle products with basic variations in fragrance and form that demonstrated potential market value. Moreover, the activity fostered social interaction, collaboration, and collective engagement among PKK members, strengthening social capital as a foundation for future entrepreneurial development. The implications of this program suggest that practice-based training combined with mentoring serves as an effective model for community empowerment, particularly in promoting women’s creative entrepreneurship. This initiative may serve as a reference for similar programs by emphasizing sustainability, product innovation, marketing strategies, and long-term economic impact within local communities.

Abstract

Spiritual development of mosque congregations plays a strategic role in strengthening faith quality and moral integrity amidst the complexities of modern life. However, religious studies conducted in mosques generally remain normative and tend to overlook critical reflection on latent faith-related issues, such as hypocrisy and spiritual integrity degradation. This community engagement programme aims to implement a reflective-participatory Qur’anic exegesis approach through the study of Tafsir Jalalain on QS. Al-Baqarah verse 17 as a model for strengthening the spiritual development of the congregation at Al-Ihsan Mosque, Jember Regency. The programme employed a Participatory Action Research (PAR) design, involving 30–40 active congregants as participants. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, written reflection sheets, and systematic field notes, and were analysed using source and method triangulation techniques. The findings indicate significant improvements in self-awareness, moral reflection, commitment to behavioural change, and reinforcement of religious practices among congregants. The reflective exegesis-based learning model proved more effective in fostering deep spiritual transformation and positive social behaviour than conventional sermon-based approaches. This programme contributes to the advancement of classical Qur’anic exegesis as a reflective instrument in mosque-based community engagement, offering an applicable, participatory, and sustainable model for spiritual development.
