Abstract

There are 3 choices in accommodating power station facility which have been installed to fulfill standard regulation of environmental quality which progressively tighten. Firstly, facility modification of pulverized–coal fired power plant by applying a flue–gas desulfurisation technology throw away to cost money installation of tired which can 20% of total cost development of it. Secondly, modification system of coal fired power generation become natural gas combined cycle (NGCC) can reach low emission, but fuel cost relatively high, so will influence the electricity generating cost. Third, modification system of electric generation which have been installed by utilizing a mechanism of coal gasification is most efficient and best alternative to yield an environmental friendly of electric generation combined cycle. In this paper, writer try to make a basic design of circulating fluidized–bed coal gasifier using clay catalist related on third choice which expected applicable in the next future to come replace power station system which have ended a period as well as newly even if.

Abstract

Indonesia is a country having a big biomass potential. This is proven by the fact tahat experts from many developed countries have visited Indonesia to explore and to utilize biomass waste. Utilizing biomass waste as a substitute for fossil fuel is one of the valuable opportunity to implement CDM project for energy sector in agro industry in Indonesia. In this paper eight kinds of biomass wastes potential in Indonesia were theoretically analyzed, then the results were compared with real condition of the biomass waste in sites. Several sites were explored to investigate eight kinds of biomass waste. The utilization and availability of those biomass waste potential as a fuel for power generation in recent conditon is discussed and then the opportunity level for utilization of the biomass wastes is qualitatively described in this paper.

Abstract

Market coal briquette compartment in Indonesia is estimated still big enough, considering kerosene and firewood which was usually used as small industrialand rural household sector fuel progressively scarce and costly if without subsidy.Coal briquette of lignit made of low rank coal without carbonization process and without binder, so that can become alternative fuel which is competitif, safe, efficient and environmental friendliness. Volatile matter content can be decreased by using special design of stove to burn it by fire tongue on the surface of stove to yield completely combustion. Continueing usage of coal briquette as alternative fuel substitution of kerosene and or firewood especially in rural, can be conducted by given system and sustanable supply guarantee, quality improvement, economical charcoal burner device of the environmental friendly, efficiently and routine promotion activities.

Abstract

A coal liqueafaction test was carried out to investigate the reactivity of an Indonesian brown coal, called South Banko, and an Australian brown coal, called Yallourn. Liquefaction was conducted to ascertain the effect of reaction temperature on thereactivity of both brown coals and it represents on the oil, CLB, CO+CO2 and C1~C4 yields. The result shows that South Banko coal is more reactive than Yallourn coal. South Banko coal gives a higher oil yield than that of Yallourn. Oil derived from SouthBanko coal increases as reaction temperature rises. In contrast, oil derived from Yallourn decreased as reaction temperature increased. This result indicated that South Banko has more labile structure than that of Yallourn and it can easily breakdown the structure of South Banko coal. In term of hydrocarbon gas, Yallourn produces higher yield than that of South Banko. This suggests that Yallourn coal has alkyl groups in its structure. It was also found that CO+CO2 yields are similar to both brown coals. South Banko has less CLB yield than that of Yallourn but the CLB yield of South Banko coal is higher than that of Yallourn while temperature is increased to 470oC. In short, the study shows that South Banko coal is more reactive than that of Yallourn coal and it is very potential for the coal liquefaction feedstock.

Abstract

Demo–plant CFB boiler 30 ton steam/hour is a granted equipments of cooperation program between BPPT and NEDO Japan in technological study area of CFB Boiler to utilize low–rank coal which functioned as steam consumption supply as well as electricity at production process system in Paper Mill of Basuki Rachmat – Banyuwangi. But outside calculation in the year of 1998, Indonesia occured economic crisis which result activity of construction which have 90% perforced to be discontinued, because PKBR as area owner and construction funder expressed have national debt, so that the asset taken over by BPPN. Since the project activities discontinued, various effort of project solving have been conducted, one of them, BPPT propose study of CFB Boiler displace function as steam and electricity generation (co–generation). In this paper, writer try to elaborate result of study giving 5 option, that is (1) Stand–alone power station, (2) Co–generation 1 (new steam turbine), (3) Co–generation 2 (new steam turbine+cooling tower), (4) Co–generation 3 (existing steam turbine) and (5) Co–generation 4 (existing steam turbine+cooling tower).
