Abstract

Poverty is a socio-economic issue that affects every nation, including Indonesia. Addressing poverty in Indonesia requires a synergistic approach that emphasizes community empowerment. The government has implemented various poverty alleviation policies; however, these programs remain ineffective as they primarily focus on economic growth rather than income distribution and tend to be consumptive in nature. Islam offers zakat as a viable solution to poverty alleviation. Beyond its religious significance, zakat serves as a socio-economic instrument that promotes equitable income distribution. Proper and efficient zakat distribution has the potential to alleviate poverty swiftly and effectively. A well-managed zakat system can contribute to resolving poverty-related issues and fostering social welfare by enhancing economic self-sufficiency within communities. This study highlights the role of zakat as a strategic tool for poverty reduction and its impact on achieving sustainable economic empowerment. Through a systematic and targeted approach, zakat can transform from a mere charitable obligation into an economic mechanism that supports the development of marginalized groups. The effectiveness of zakat in poverty alleviation underscores the importance of institutional frameworks and governance mechanisms to ensure transparency and accountability in its management. Therefore, integrating zakat into national poverty reduction strategies can serve as a complementary solution to conventional economic policies, promoting social justice and economic inclusivity. This paper emphasizes the need for further research on the optimization of zakat distribution to maximize its impact on poverty eradication and sustainable economic development in Indonesia.

Abstract

This paper explores the concept of al-kasb (human effort) in the Qur'an and Hadith, with the aim of analyzing its semantic dimensions and comparing it with Max Weber's theory of work ethic, particularly the notion of a divine "calling" (Beruf). The study employs a qualitative method using a library research design and applies a comparative approach to examine both Islamic and sociological perspectives. The novelty of this paper lies in its interdisciplinary analysis, integrating Islamic theological insights with Western sociological theories to uncover shared ethical motivations underlying work behavior. The findings indicate that the term al-kasb in the Qur’an carries four primary meanings: (1) human action in general, (2) good deeds, (3) bad deeds, and (4) efforts to earn a living. In Hadith, al-kasb is primarily understood as the lawful pursuit of sustenance. A comparative analysis reveals conceptual parallels between al-kasb and Weber’s idea of work as a divine calling, particularly in how both promote diligence and responsibility in occupational life as a form of religious devotion. However, fundamental differences are also identified, including (1) the theological origins of each concept, (2) the development and contextual background of the theories, and (3) the socio-economic impacts of each worldview. The study implies that understanding religious perspectives on work can contribute to developing a more ethically driven workforce, especially in faith-based societies. It also opens further dialogue between Islamic ethical constructs and Western social theories in shaping modern work ethics.

Abstract

Consumption behavior is an essential aspect of daily human life and a key focus within microeconomic analysis. In Islamic economics, consumption is not merely about fulfilling desires but is guided by a hierarchy of needs: dharuriyat (essentials), hajiyat (complementary needs), and tahsiniyat (luxuries). Unlike conventional economic perspectives, Islam integrates faith and consumption, emphasizing that belief (iman) plays a significant role in shaping individual behavior and worldview. This research, conducted by Royhan Maliki Rizqi, is titled "Analysis of Consumption Behavior of Islamic Economics Students at UIN Walisongo Semarang from the Perspective of Islamic Economics." The study aims to explore how students of the Islamic Economics Department understand and practice consumer behavior aligned with the core principles of Islamic economics. The research adopts a qualitative approach using library research methods to analyze relevant texts and sources. The novelty of this study lies in its focus on a specific demographic—students who are expected to have theoretical knowledge of Islamic economic values—and examines the extent to which these values influence their actual consumption patterns. The findings reveal that while students have a conceptual understanding of Islamic consumption ethics, practical implementation often varies due to modern lifestyle influences and socio-economic factors. The study implies that educational institutions should strengthen the integration of Islamic ethical teachings in daily economic behavior to foster a more value-based consumer mindset. This research contributes to the broader discourse on aligning faith and economic practice, particularly in shaping future Muslim economic professionals.

Abstract

Consumption is the activity of using or reducing the utility of goods or services to fulfill human needs, either gradually or immediately. In the digital era, e-commerce has become a significant platform for buying and selling transactions using electronic media. One common form of e-commerce is the marketplace. This study aims to explain whether e-commerce influences consumption behavior based on the principles of Islamic economics among students of Ma’had Ulil Albab Lil Banin. The novelty of this research lies in its focus on Islamic boarding school students who are increasingly engaging with online shopping, potentially shifting their consumption patterns and ethical considerations. This study is motivated by the growing use of digital platforms among students, which raises questions about the alignment of their consumption behavior with Islamic values. A quantitative research method was used by collecting primary data through structured questionnaires. The results show that e-commerce does have an influence on consumption behavior, particularly in aspects such as frequency of purchases, types of goods selected, and purchasing motivations. However, the understanding and application of Islamic economic ethics in digital transactions vary among the respondents. The findings imply that there is a need to enhance awareness and education on ethical consumption within the context of Islamic economics, especially for young consumers in religious educational environments. This research contributes to the ongoing discussion on how faith-based values can guide modern consumer behavior in a digital society.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the rapid development of digital technology, which significantly influences social dynamics. Various content across platforms is now easily shared, making it more convenient for the public to access information, engage in communication, and conduct buying and selling activities. The objective of this study is to explore the implementation of social media influencers in increasing the purchase intention of Generation Z, specifically individuals aged 18 to 24, in using Islamic banking products. The novelty of this study lies in its focus on the intersection between Islamic finance marketing and digital influencer strategy within the behavior of digitally native youth. A qualitative research method is employed to gain a deep, detailed, and comprehensive understanding of this social phenomenon. Data collection is conducted through interviews and supported by questionnaire-based surveys. The findings reveal that marketing strategies involving social media influencers are relatively effective in shaping purchase intention. However, the study also highlights that the creativity and relevance of content still require improvement to better capture the interest and trust of the target audience. The presence and credibility of influencers play a crucial role in the success of these strategies, as engaging and authentic content strongly impacts Generation Z's perception and decision-making. This research implies that Islamic banking institutions must continue to innovate in content development and select influencers who align with their brand values to enhance marketing effectiveness among young Muslim consumers.
