Abstract

Diarrhea is the second leading cause of death in toddlers, causing 525,000 deaths each year. Based on the number of toddler diarrhea cases in Sukoharjo Regency in 2023, the highest number of cases was in the Kartasura Health Center with 1,863 cases. This study is an observational analytical study with a cross-sectional design. This study involved 1,502 mothers with toddlers as its population. The study used a sample of 91 people with the proportional random sampling method and used the Chi-Square bivariate test. Based on the results of the study, it was concluded that there was a relationship between maternal knowledge and the incidence of diarrhea with a p-value of 0.043 (p-value <0.05), there was no relationship between completeness of immunization and the incidence of diarrhea with a p-value of 0.731 (p-value> 0.05), there was no relationship between feces disposal and the incidence of diarrhea with a p-value of 0.291 (p-value> 0.05) and there was no relationship between waste disposal and the incidence of diarrhea with a p-value of 1,000 (p-value> 0.05). Therefore, educational efforts are needed through counseling activities or socialization held by health workers from health centers or integrated health posts to find out the causes of diarrhea, actions taken if toddlers get diarrhea, and prevention of diarrhea in toddlers. The things that affect the incidence of diarrhea in Kartasura District are because mothers of toddlers do not know the right actions if toddlers get diarrhea, do not know the signs if toddlers get diarrhea, and do not know how diarrhea is transmitted.

Abstract

Breast milk remains the optimal source of nutrition for infants, providing immunological protection and long-term health benefits for both mother and child. However, many primiparous postpartum mothers experience challenges in achieving adequate breast milk expression. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of a structured breast care intervention on breast milk expression among primiparous postpartum mothers at a private maternal and child health clinic in Tangerang, Indonesia, conducted between January and March 2025. Using a preexperimental design with a static-group comparison, 40 respondents were selected through non-probability sampling. Statistical analysis using the Mann–Whitney U-Test yielded a pvalue of 0.002, demonstrating a 95% success rate in the intervention group compared to 40% in the control group. These results indicate that breast care interventions significantly improve milk expression among first-time mothers. Integrating this approach into postpartum nursing practice may enhance breastfeeding outcomes and contribute to achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3, which promotes maternal and child health.

Abstract

Picky eating behavior is a common problem in preschool children that can affect nutritional intake and growth. Understanding the relationship between feeding patterns and picky eating behavior is important to help parents develop better feeding strategies. This quantitative study used a correlational analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. The study was conducted among 70 preschool children aged 4–5 years at KB-TK Al-Irsyad AlIslamiyyah, Sumbersari District, Jember Regency. A total of 60 children were selected using proportionate random sampling. Data were collected using the Child Eating Behavior Questionnaire (CEBQ) and a picky eater questionnaire. Statistical analysis was performed using the Chi-Square test. The findings showed that 45 children (75%) exhibited picky eater behavior, while 15 children (25%) did not. The Chi-Square test result showed a p-value of 0.030, indicating a significant relationship between feeding patterns and picky eater behavior. There is a significant relationship between feeding patterns and picky eater behavior in preschool children. Children with good feeding patterns are less likely to exhibit picky eating behavior. Therefore, parents should recognize their children’s eating patterns and provide a variety of foods to prevent picky eating tendencies.

Abstract

Stress is one of the most common psychological problems experienced by pregnant women, particularly among primigravid mothers who are expecting their first child. This condition often arises due to anxiety, fear, and negative thoughts regarding pregnancy and childbirth. Internal and external factors, such as emotional changes, family support, and social environment, can influence the mother’s psychological wellbeing. The third trimester is considered the most critical phase, as physical discomfort and emotional instability tend to increase during this period. This study aimed to determine the effect of Murottal Surah Ar-Rahman therapy on stress levels among primigravid pregnant women in their third trimester. The research employed a quantitative pre-experimental design with a one-group pre-test–post-test approach. The sample consisted of 18 primigravid pregnant women selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a modified Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS) questionnaire administered before and after therapy. The results showed that before receiving therapy, 5 respondents (27.78%) experienced mild stress and 13 respondents (72.22%) experienced moderate stress. After therapy, 11 respondents (61.11%) had normal stress levels and 7 respondents (38.89%) experienced mild stress. Statistical analysis revealed a significant difference (p = 0.000) between pre-test and post-test scores, indicating that Murottal Surah Ar-Rahman therapy effectively reduced stress levels among primigravid pregnant women. The study concludes that listening to Murottal Surah Ar-Rahman can serve as a simple, non-pharmacological intervention to support emotional stability and promote mental health in pregnant women during the third trimester.
