Abstract

The diversification of fisheries businesses represents a vital strategy for improving the welfare of coastal communities. This study aims to analyze innovative and sustainable models of fisheries business diversification using a descriptive qualitative approach. The findings indicate that resource-based and technology-driven business diversification enhances the income and economic resilience of coastal communities. Several identified obstacles include capital constraints, limited market access, and a lack of technical skills. Proposed solutions encompass training programs, industry partnerships, and the formulation of policies that support community-based fisheries enterprises. Furthermore, the results demonstrate that business diversification based on marine product processing technology, aquaculture, and ecotourism is proven to effectively elevate income and bolster the economic stability of coastal populations.

Abstract

Fisheries waste is frequently perceived as residue devoid of economic value; however, with appropriate innovation, this waste can be processed into alternative economic resources. This article examines the role of women in utilizing fisheries waste as an economic opportunity capable of enhancing the welfare of fishermen and fish farmers' families. Employing a descriptive qualitative method, this study explores the concepts, strategies, challenges, and solutions regarding fisheries waste processing by women. The findings indicate that women's involvement in innovative fisheries waste processing creates value-added products, generates business opportunities, and strengthens the economic resilience of fishermen and fish farmers' households. Furthermore, the results demonstrate that women play a pivotal role in processing waste into economically valuable products, such as fertilizer, animal feed, and handicrafts, thereby improving family welfare and economic stability.

Abstract

The economic transformation of fishermen and fish farmers has become a crucial issue in addressing the challenges of globalization and technological change. This article aims to analyze the role of technological innovation and digitalization in improving the economic welfare of fishermen and fish farmers. This study employs a descriptive qualitative method with a case study approach conducted in several coastal regions of Indonesia. The findings indicate that the adoption of digital technology within the fisheries sector enhances production efficiency, expands market access, and elevates the competitiveness of both fishermen and fish farmers. However, several barriers persist, including limited technology access, low digital literacy, and infrastructural constraints. This article also proposes solutions in the form of capacity building through digitalization training, strengthening the fisheries technology ecosystem, and developing policies that support technology adoption for fishermen and fish farmers. The results demonstrate that preserving local wisdom by empowering community organizations serves as a key factor for sustainable innovation in this sector. Consequently, digitalization and technological innovation can serve as primary drivers in the economic transformation of Indonesia's fisheries sector.

Abstract

The Blue Economy is a sustainable development concept that emphasizes the balance between economic growth and the sustainability of marine resources and freshwater fisheries. This article aims to analyze the concept, strategy, and implementation of the Blue Economy in marine and freshwater fisheries management in Indonesia. Using descriptive qualitative methods, this study explores aspects of innovation, policy, and challenges faced in implementing the Blue Economy in the fisheries sector. The results show that although the Blue Economy has great potential to improve the welfare of coastal communities and fish farmers, challenges such as lack of infrastructure, suboptimal regulations, and public awareness remain major obstacles. Therefore, a more integrated strategy is needed, such as digitalizing the fisheries sector, increasing the capacity of fishermen, and strengthening synergies between the government, academia, and the private sector. Thus, the implementation of the Blue Economy can have a positive impact on the sustainability of fisheries ecosystems and the economic welfare of coastal communities. The results indicate that the implementation of the Blue Economy has a positive impact on improving the welfare of fishermen and the sustainability of aquatic ecosystems.
