Abstract

The reporting about the world of disability makes the space of information, insights and intellectuality of the people about the world of disability very inadequate, including in news content that encourages negative stereotypical thinking among the people. Unfavorable treatment of persons with disabilities is experienced not only in actual treatment but also in media texts. The existence of texts that can be detrimental to persons with disabilities is a form of social construction such as text in forms and news texts that place the position of persons with disabilities as disadvantaged parties. Suaramerdeka.com is assumed in its reporting to still not take sides with persons with disabilities as indicated in the debilitating reporting when reporting about disabled street children who are accommodated in Al Rifdah Tlogomulyo's Dual Disability Orphanage, Semarang. Several reports from suaramerdeka.com show that the media cannot be assumed to place persons with disabilities as outsiders. Suaramerdeka.com becomes an interesting media to be investigated in relation to media alignments especially when framing disability issues that can place persons with disabilities as disadvantaged or otherwise disadvantaged parties This study uses analysis of coverage of disability released by the media Suaramerdeka.com. This news analysis uses a framing tool introduced by Zhondang Pan and Gerald Kosicki, which includes syntax, scripts, thematic, and rhetorical. The process of selecting issues and highlighting certain aspects of reality will be known by conducting framing analysis of news framing by the media. The research focused on news that developed from May, June, and July 2019. The results of this study show how suaramerdeka.com framing news of persons with disabilities puts the highlighted party (not disabled) as a strong party. On the other hand, persons with disabilities are often portrayed as opposing parties from the central party in the reporting / the strong. The use of certain terms such as sufferers, disabilities, autism in contexts that are less appropriate for the struggle of persons with disabilities is what marginalizes the position of disability. On the other hand positively, suaramerdeka.com framing people with disabilities as highlighted (important) parties. The use of the term persons with disabilities makes the use of language that is empowered (reinforcing the terms of the disabled persons). There is also a positive side to how suaramerdeka.com conducts framing by placing disabilities as the highlighted party as a strong party. In-depth reporting provides an opportunity for journalists to take sides that benefit persons with disabilities from becoming subject to reporting.

Abstract

The issuance of the Presidential Regulation on Foreign Workers has drawn protests from labor groups because there are three articles that are considered detrimental to Indonesian workers. These articles are considered not in accordance with Labor Law No. 13/2003 . This regulation is also considered to simplify blue collar foreign workers entering Indonesia. This argument arises because the data showed an increase in the number of blue collar foreign workers in Indonesia in 2017. Kompas, one of daily newspaper in Indonesia, also reports this issue. Mass media should carry out its function as social control and provide spaces for all groups of people. However, Kompas tends to provide more spaces for the government as the informants. The choice of informants has influenced Kompas' news. Thus, this research aims to explain how Kompas constructs the news about Presidential Regulation on Foreign Workers. This study uses the Social Construction of Reality Theory which was introduced by Peter L. Berger and Thomas Luckmann. This research is a qualitative descriptive study and uses framing analysis developed by Robert Entman. The results of this research indicate that Kompas uses economic frame in reporting on the Presidential Regulation on the Foreign Workers. Economic news is important because it has a big influence on the human life which is preoccupied by making a living to fulfill their needs. Kompas uses economic frame because the issue of the Presidential Regulation on Foreign Workers intersects with the issue of labor and foreign investment. The economic frame is indicated by the selection of issues and emphasis on certain aspects. Kompas Daily Newspaper chose to present the issue of procedure arrangement to increase Indonesian investment. Another issue presented by Kompas was that public considered the issuance of Perpres No. 20/2018 reduced job opportunities for local workers. Kompas makes certain aspects of an event stand out using positive titles related to the Presidential Regulation on the Foreign Workers. Kompas also displays certain phrases that support the selection of issues. They then highlighted through the selection of positive titles regarding the Presidential Regulation on Foreign Workers as well as the selection of informants who mostly feature government.

Abstract

Working in stigma is not an easy thing to do, this is felt by women who work as SPG (Sales Promotion Girl) cigarettes, getting stigma for SPGs are considered as a risk from their profession. Cigarette SPGs examined in this study are those who still live with their families, this is done so that researchers can examine the risks that occur on the stigma felt by cigarette SPG families so that it causes interpersonal conflicts within the family in the form of complaints against the Informant profession as SPG cigarettes. This study aims to determine the type of conflict management used by SPG cigarettes in dealing with interpersonal conflict in the family over their profession, therefore the researcher uses the theory of interpersonal conflict management as a reference to theoretical criteria. The method of collecting data from this study was in-depth interviews with three cigarette SPGs domiciled in Semarang. The results of this study shows that the stigma of the SPG occurs because with the uniform and makeup attached to the body of the SPG cigarette, artifactually often gets negative responses from the public. Furthermore, this study will explore the conflict management within the SPG cigarette family over the stigma of the community. Conflicts that occur in cigarette SPG families over the stigma of their profession occur because the family does not want if their family members are considered negative by others, so that complaints arise from members of the SPG cigarette family to leave the profession. This research on conflict management groups the types of interpersonal conflict management into six categories, which are Domination, Capitulation, Inaction, Withdrawal, Negosiation and Third Party Intervenion. Based on research findings regarding interpersonal conflict management, researchers find that the type of conflict management used in dealing with problems will depend on the problem itself, because every problem that occurs will always demand its own type of conflict management. In addition, each type of conflict management if done will always pose its own risks so that this becomes a consideration of the informants to determine attitudes in dealing with interpersonal conflict within the family.
