Abstract

Academic procrastination is one of the most common problems experienced by students and may negatively affect academic achievement, learning discipline, and responsibility in completing school assignments. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of group counseling with self-management techniques in reducing students' academic procrastination at Ya BAKII 1 Junior High School, Kesugihan. The study employed a quantitative approach using a pre-experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The participants consisted of students who demonstrated moderate to high levels of academic procrastination and were selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using an academic procrastination questionnaire administered before and after the intervention. The treatment was implemented through several group counseling sessions incorporating self-management techniques, including self-monitoring, self-evaluation, self-reinforcement, and self-control. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and a paired sample t-test to determine differences between pretest and posttest scores. The findings indicated a significant reduction in students' academic procrastination after participating in group counseling sessions using self-management techniques, as evidenced by the lower posttest scores compared to the pretest scores and a significance level of p < 0.05. These results demonstrate that group counseling with self-management techniques is effective in reducing students' academic procrastination. Therefore, school counselors are encouraged to implement self-management-based group counseling programs as an intervention strategy to improve students' academic discipline and responsibility.

Abstract

The rapid expansion of TikTok has significantly influenced adolescents' psychosocial development, affecting their emotional well-being, social interactions, academic engagement, and religious values. Excessive exposure to short-form digital content has been associated with addictive behaviors, reduced interpersonal communication, emotional instability, and declining participation in religious and educational activities. This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Ngaji Sorogan and Lailatul Ijtima programs as community-based Islamic educational strategies to mitigate the negative psychosocial effects of TikTok among adolescents at the Tarbiyatul Mubtadiin Foundation in Gantungan Village, Jatinegara District, Tegal Regency, Indonesia. Employing a qualitative case study design, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis involving foundation leaders, religious teachers (ustadz), parents, and adolescent participants. The data were analyzed using the interactive model of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, while credibility was ensured through source and method triangulation. The findings reveal that the Ngaji Sorogan program strengthens adolescents' religious literacy, self-discipline, and personal accountability through individualized Qur'anic learning and direct teacher guidance. Meanwhile, the Lailatul Ijtima program fosters social cohesion, emotional resilience, spiritual awareness, and positive peer interaction through collective religious gatherings, discussions, and worship activities. The integration of both programs effectively reduces excessive TikTok use by encouraging productive time management, strengthening self-control, enhancing face-to-face communication, and reinforcing Islamic moral values. The study concludes that traditional Islamic educational programs remain highly relevant as culturally responsive interventions for addressing the psychosocial challenges posed by digital media among adolescents. These findings contribute to the growing discourse on integrating religious education with digital well-being initiatives in contemporary Muslim communities.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of digital technology has significantly increased gadget use among adolescents, creating both educational opportunities and psychological challenges. Excessive and uncontrolled gadget use has become a growing concern due to its potential negative effects on adolescents' mental health, including anxiety, emotional instability, sleep disturbances, reduced social interaction, and symptoms of digital addiction. This study aims to analyze the dangers of gadget use on the mental health development of adolescents in Kemurang Wetan Village, Tanjung District, Brebes Regency, Indonesia. The research employed a qualitative case study approach involving adolescents, parents, community leaders, and educators as research participants selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis, and were analyzed using the interactive model of data analysis consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that excessive gadget use has negatively influenced adolescents' emotional, cognitive, and social development. Common problems identified include increased anxiety, irritability, decreased concentration, sleep disorders, social withdrawal, and dependence on online entertainment and social media. Limited parental supervision and low digital literacy further exacerbate these psychological risks. However, adolescents who received consistent parental guidance, participated in religious and community activities, and maintained balanced digital habits demonstrated better emotional regulation and healthier social relationships. The study concludes that preventing the adverse effects of gadget use on adolescent mental health requires collaborative efforts among families, schools, communities, and local government through digital literacy education, strengthened parental supervision, and the promotion of healthy digital behavior. These findings contribute to the development of community-based strategies for safeguarding adolescent mental health in the digital era.

Abstract

The increasing use of smartphones among adolescents has transformed learning patterns, communication, and access to information. While smartphones provide significant educational and social benefits, excessive and uncontrolled use has become a growing concern due to its potential impact on students' academic achievement. This study aims to synthesize and analyze empirical evidence regarding the relationship between smartphone addiction and academic achievement among adolescents. The study employed a literature review method by examining peer-reviewed journal articles published between 2019 and 2025 from reputable databases, including Scopus, Web of Science, ScienceDirect, SpringerLink, Taylor & Francis, and Google Scholar. The selected literature was analyzed using a thematic synthesis approach to identify recurring findings, influencing factors, and research gaps. The review indicates that smartphone addiction is consistently associated with lower academic achievement through various mechanisms, including reduced learning concentration, poor time management, sleep disturbances, academic procrastination, decreased motivation, and excessive engagement with social media and online gaming. Nevertheless, several studies reveal that smartphones can positively support academic performance when used appropriately for educational purposes, collaborative learning, and information retrieval. The findings also highlight that parental supervision, digital literacy, self-regulation, and effective school policies play significant roles in minimizing the negative effects of smartphone addiction. This literature review concludes that the relationship between smartphone addiction and academic achievement is influenced not only by the duration of smartphone use but also by the purpose, intensity, and quality of digital engagement. Therefore, comprehensive interventions involving families, schools, and policymakers are essential to promote responsible smartphone use while enhancing adolescents' academic success and psychological well-being.

Abstract

Artificial intelligence has increasingly become an integral part of digital mental health services, offering innovative approaches to counseling and psychological support in higher education. AI-assisted counseling platforms enable university students to access immediate guidance, emotional support, and self-reflection resources regardless of time and location. Despite their growing adoption, limited research has explored how students perceive and experience these technologies in relation to their psychological well-being. This study aims to explore the lived experiences of university students who have utilized AI-assisted counseling for psychological well-being through a phenomenological approach. The study involved 12 undergraduate students from diverse academic disciplines who had used AI-based counseling applications or conversational AI for academic and emotional support for at least three months. Data were collected through in-depth semi-structured interviews and reflective field notes. The data were analyzed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA), including iterative coding, theme development, and interpretative synthesis. Four major themes emerged: (1) accessibility and immediacy as primary advantages of AI-assisted counseling, (2) emotional comfort through non-judgmental interactions, (3) perceived limitations in empathy and human connection, and (4) AI as a complementary rather than a substitute for professional counselors. Participants reported that AI-assisted counseling encouraged self-reflection, emotional regulation, and academic resilience while emphasizing the continued importance of professional counselors in addressing complex psychological concerns. The findings suggest that AI-assisted counseling can serve as a valuable complementary resource for promoting psychological well-being among university students when implemented alongside ethical standards and human-centered counseling practices. This study contributes to the growing literature on digital mental health by providing insights into students' lived experiences and offering practical implications for the future development of AI-supported counseling services in higher education.
