Abstract

Production of large amounts of waste wash water coming from ready-mixedconcrete plants leads to problems of environmental impact. Well developed countries usually prohibit the disposal of such types of water, due to their extremely high pH value and suspended matter amount, and require the water to be treated prior to discharge. prEN 1008 and ASTM C94 provide for recycling waste water in the production of new concrete, but gives some restrictions for its composition and use. In this paper, the use of waste washes water (coming from a medium-size ready-mixed concrete plant) in mixing water for concrete has been investigated, especially the effects on some mechanical and physical properties. The waste wash water used as partial replacement (0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% by volume) of the total water content. The experimental tests conducted on the 7-day and 28-day of compressive strength, water absorption, and the coefficient of sorptivity. The results have shown that some variants of concrete prepared with recycled water exhibit better 28-day compressive strength compared to the reference materials. The use of wash water inconcrete leads to a reduction of the water absorption and concrete sorptivity, which surely improves the durability of the material. The optimal use of waste wash water is 25% by total volume of the water content. This effect can be ascribed to the filling action of the fines present in the wash water and to the slight reduction of the actual water/cement ratio.Keywords: Waste Wash Water, Compressive Strength, Water Absorption, Sorptivity

Abstract

The river is the lowest part of the earth’s surface in the form of groovesextending from upstream toward downstream. Flow characteristics was influencedby the morphology condition. Flow Modelling was performed as a first step to find outthe flow characteristic. The aim of the research is to identify the flow characteristicsof river. The research was conducted in reaches of Bedog river, from Pendowo weiras upstream boundary to Kadisono weir as downstream boundary. SoftwareQUAL2K was applied in the modelling. The modelling was conducted in dry seasonand wet season. The Bedog river was devided into 10 reaches with each crosssectional area was simplified to trapezium type. The Manning roughness was usedas tool of calibration and verification in flow modelling. The stream roughness, thatrepresented by the Manning roughness in steady non uniform flow, considering themorphology condition and flow characteristic, including depth and velocity. TheManning roughness due to the flow modelling was not the same with the trueManning roughness to nature. This condition was caused by flow modellingmechanism.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis study aims to determine: (1) the value of unconfined compressive strength (qu) clay mixed shredded plastic waste serrated; (2) the value of the internal friction angle (φ) soil mixed shredded plastic waste serrated; (3) the value of soil friction (c) soil mixed shredded plastic waste serrated. This study used an experimental method. Plastic waste is cut by the jagged edges 1x1 cm and 1x0,5 cm then mixed in clay, compacted, and then tested robust free press and direct shear. Clay samples taken at elevation -0.30 m of area from Punukan Kulon Progo and Kasongan Bantul. Waste plastics using a former mineral water containers (plastic types PET). The results showed that the addition of pieces of plastic waste that size on clay will: (1) raise the value of the unconfined compressive strength (qu) of land at the rate of plastic 3% clay Kasongan, and if pieces of plastic rather large 1x1 cm on clay Wates (2) increase the internal friction angle (φ) if the levels of plastic 3% (clay Kasongan) and on clay Wates but only if the plastic is cut rather large 1x1 cm. (3) Soil frictionis going up at the rate of 2% plastic (clay Kasongan), raise the coherence, clay Wates if the plastic pieces small size 0,5x1 cm.Keywords: clay, direct shear, free press, waste plasticsABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui: (1) nilai kuat-tekan bebas (qu) tanah lempung yang dicampur cacahan limbah plastik bergerigi; (2) nilaisudut gesek intern  (φ) tanah yang dicampur cacahan limbah plastik bergerigi; (3) nilai  lekatan (c) tanah yang dicampur cacahan limbah plastik bergerigi. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimen. Limbah plastik dipotong-potong secara tepi bergerigi ukuran 1x1 cm dan 1x0,5 cm kemudian dicampurkan pada tanah lempung, dipadatkan, lalu diuji kuat tekan bebas dan geser langsung. Sampel lempung diambil pada elevasi -0,30 m dari daerah Punukan Kabupaten Kulonprogo dan Kasongan Kabupaten Bantul. Limbah plastik menggunakan bekas wadah air mineral (plastik jenis PET).Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penambahan potongan limbah plastik ukuran tersebut pada lempung akan: (1) menaikkan nilai kuat tekan bebas (qu) tanah pada kadar plastik 3% lempung Kasongan, dan jika potongan plastiknya agak besar 1x1cm pada lempung Wates (2) menaikkan sudut-kuat-geser (φ) jika kadar plastik 3% (lempung Kasongan) dan pada Lempung Wates tetapi hanya jika plastiknya dipotong agak besar 1x1cm. (3) lekatan akan naik pada kadar plastik 2% (lempung Kasongan), menaikkan lekatan, Lempung Wates jika potongan plastik ukuran kecil 0,5x1cm.Kata kunci: geser langsung, lempung, limbah plastik, tekan-bebas.

Abstract

This research aims: (1) to observe the strength of wood join using adhesive in holding up the shearing load, (2) to observe the difference of shear strength of wood join using adhesive of several trademarks: GG, ZZ, FF, RR, and PP.This is an experimental research conducted in the Construction MaterialTesting Laboratory, the Department of Civil Engineering and Planning Education, FT UNY. Five trademarks of adhesive are used: GG, ZZ, FF, RR, and PP, 10 samples for each trademark of adhesive. The total samples of this research are therefore 50. The data analysis technique to reject or accept the hypothesis uses the one way variant analysis. The test requirements for one way variant analysis are: (1) normality test and (2) homogeneity test. The research results show that: (1) the mean of shear strength of wood join using the adhesive of GG is 14 kg/cm2, adhesive ZZ is 16,64 kg/cm2 , adhesive FF is 20 kg/cm2 , adhesive RR is 22,64 kg/cm2 , and adhesive PP is 37,82 kg/cm2• (2) There is a significance difference among shear strength ofwood join using the adhesives of GG, ZZ, FF, RR, and PP. (3) The comparison result of the economical values viewed by the adhesive trademarks from the most to the least economical ones are FF, PP, RR,GG, and ZZ. (4) The comparison results of the adhesive characteristics from the most brittle to the most elastic ones are respectively RR, PP, FF, GG, and ZZ. (5) The comparison results of the cohesion power from the highest to the lowest ones are respectively RR, ZZ, PP, GG, and FF. Key words: adhesive, joining material, and wood.

Abstract

AbstractPumping method that widely used in the stage of concreting forhigh rise building construction, will lead the fresh concrete into the risksof bleeding and segregation that can caused inadequate concrete qualitydue to the presence of more pores volume in hardened concrete.Interfacial transition zone between plain concrete and reinforcing bar is amain factor that dominantly determine the mechanical strength ofreinforced concrete members as a composite material. Fresh concretecharacteristics, casting method, and free fall height will mainly affect thebond strength of a reinforced concrete structural member. This researchaimed to investigate the effects of free fall height in the concrete castingon the bond strength of concrete reinforcement.Concrete material that used in this research mixed using OrdinaryPortland Cement with 0.45 of water-cement ratio, 1% of polycarboxylatebased high range water reducer by weight of Portland cement, and a 16mm of deformed steel reinforcing bar with 403.06 I\~Pa of yield strength.The experiment was done on the free fall heights of 0 em, 30 em, 75 em,100 em, 200 cm, and 300 em. Investigation of concrete compressivestrength was done using 18 15x15x15 cm3 standard cubes, and bondstrength using 18 standard samples of reinforcing bar casted in15x15x15 cm3 concrete cubes.The experimental test indicates that free fall height significantlyaffects bond strength of steel reinforcement in a reinforced concretestructural member. The optimum bond strength was achieved on 30 cmof free faU height, and the failure of the samples meet with rull-outmechanism. This result can be explained due to the presence ofgravitational force that lead the fresh concrete into an initial compactingprocess by its own weight, when bleeding and segregation do not existit: the casted fresh concrete.Keywords: strength of steel reinforcement, floowing concrete,superplasticizer

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis study is aimed to know the children gathering space, the physical element found in it, andfactors that may affect the establishment of the children gathering space. This study applied aqualitative approach which is to depict or describe a natural condition that occurs. In collectingthe data, the researchers conducted observations in the field to observe the activities ofchildren, physical setting of children gathering space and physical elements in it. The site of thisresearch was conducted at Rusun Jogoyudan Gowongan Kampung Kidul village,Gondokusuman sub-district, Yogyakarta. The findings of this study show that children in thegathering space rusunawa Jogoyudan, Yogyakarta including: stall / guard post, stall / gabion(river banks), the mosque yard (front and side), entrance way. Physical elements childrengathering space at the towers include: a) the floor elements in form of paving blocks floor(mostly), cement pavement and gabion, b) a roof element in form of tritisan stalls and mosquesand, c) the wall elements in form of fences, walls of the house / shop, gabion andembankments. Abstract

This research aims to find The maximum scour depth occurred in building bridges using HEC -RAS software . Maximum scour modeling results can be used to identify and estimate thestability of the structure of the bridge. This research using software HEC-RAS v. 4.1.0. Stagesof modeling programming includes several data input process, that is: the geometry data inputstream, bridge geometry data input, input the data flow, data input on bridge scour. Modeling isdone with the flow rate changes on any one process is running. Modelling maximum scour whoreviewed that is on the pillars of the bridge. This research result of this modeling with the flowrate variation, it can be seen that the discharge 5.87 m³ / s to 905.23 m³ / s began to increasethe depth of scour at the pillars. Abstract

ABSTRACTThe earthquake in Bantul, Yogyakarta at Mei 27, 2006 appeared a lot ofproblems for peoples. Besides psychological and physical excesses,, a great deal ofthe rubbish material accumulated as the result of building destruction. This paper triesto implement the brick rubbish material for improving the soil street strength atvillages. This experiment research that was done by CBR-test at pure soil as well as atsoil with grain brick mixture is aimed to explain the appropriate grain brick compositionmust be mixed into soil in order to get a maximum strength of soil. The results of theresearch are: 1. adding grain brick into soil could increase the strength of soil bearingparallel with increasing the CBR-value.2. the fine grain brick significantly increase thestrength of soil mix. 3. the CBR-value of soil mixed with grain brick is reached at36%.Keywords : brick, rubbish, CBR, soil bearing, soil strength.

Abstract

Empirisism is a paradigm in science philosophy which influences variouskind of research methods, include architectural researches. Using content analysis,this paper aimed to explore empirisism, from many aspects. Those are historydevelopment, characteristics, levels, and also relation of empirisism with otherparadigm, especially rasionalism. In architectural research, empiricism commonlynamed as naturalistic method.This paper concluded that besides has manyimportant roles, empirism also has weakness, so it is better to develop researchesby using both of those paradigms, empirism and rasionalism, especially inarchitectural researches.Keywords: empiricism, paradigm, rasionalism
