Abstract

The promotional effect of iron the catalytic performance of supported Ni-Fe on aluminum hydroxide(denoted as Ni-Fe(x)/AlOH; x is molar ratio of Ni/Fe) catalysts on the selective hydrogenation of levulinicacid (LA) into gamma(g)-valerolactone (GVL) has been systematically studied. Ni-Fe(x)/AlOH catalystswere successfully synthesized using polyol method under hydrothermal condition from the mixture ofRaney Ni supported on aluminum hydroxide (Raney Ni/AlOH) and solution contains ion Fe3+ with molarratio of Ni/Fe (x) = 1.0, 1.8, 2.3, 2.8, and 3.0 according to the number of initial precursors. XRD patternsof the synthesized Ni-Fe(x)/AlOH showed that the diffraction peak of the corresponding Ni(111) species at2θ = 44.84º shifted to lower diffraction peaks at 2θ = 44.54-44.11 , which can be attributed as the formation of bimetallic alloy Ni-Fe(111) species. The addition of 3.0 mmol Fe in Ni-Fe(3.0)/AlOH catalyst enhanced significantly its activity and selectivity on the selective hydrogenation of levulinic acid (LA) into γ-valerolactone (GVL) at 130C, initial pressure of H2 3.0 MPa, and reaction time of 1.5 h. Further increasing of reaction temperature, amount of Fe, and reaction time remarkably enhanced the LA conversion and GVL yield up to 100%.

Abstract

Silica xerogel which was derived from bagasse ash originated from the solid waste of sugar cane industrywas used as Cd ion adsorbent. This silica xerogel was synthesized using the sol-gel method on pH 5 and wasapplied to adsorp Cd ion in various contact time, pH, initial Cd ion concentration and temperature. It wasfound out that the optimum pH for Cd ion adsorption was at pH 7 using 0.01 g of silica xerogel within 60minutes of contact time. The adsorption isotherm follows the Langmuir isotherm model (R2 = 0.997) and adsorption kinetics followed the pseudo-second-order model (R2 = 0.998).

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to synthesize wax ester from fatty acid stearic with oleil alcohol, determine theoptimum conditions and to find out what percentage of wax ester is produced. Wax ester synthesis iscarried out enzymatically. Qualitative wax ester analysis using TLC and FT-IR, quantitatively by acid-basetitration and determination of optimum conditions using a variation of time, temperature, number ofenzymes. Based on the results of the TLC analysis obtained the Rf value of 0.14, FT-IR spectrum of stearicfatty acids, oleil alcohol and wax ester can be concluded that wax ester can be synthesized from fatty acidstearic with oleil alcohol enzymatically. The optimum conditions for wax ester synthesis from stearic fattyacid for 2 hours, at 40 ° C, with a lipase amount of 0.15 grams, in the ratio of stearic acid: oleil alcohol =1: 3 and with n-hexane as the best solvent. The percentage of conversion obtained is 94%.

Abstract

The widespread use of styrofoam as food and beverage packaging is a very urgent issue to study, especiallyregarding to human health. This polymer is thought to be easily degraded by beam radiation to producemonomers that are easily oxidized to carcinogenic styrene oxides. Studies on the effects of sun and UV rayson plastic for food and beverage packaging have been carried out. Some styrofoam samples are made in theform of thin films and some are made in slabs. The samples were exposed to sunlight and the others wereexposed to ultraviolet light using 20 watts UV lamps for 10, 25, and 40 days. The effects of radiation onstyrofoam were characterized using a tensile test, FTIR, and physical observation. The results showed thatboth sun and ultraviolet radiation can cause degradation of styrofoam. Radiation of sunlight and UV lighton styrofoam generate a decrease in tensile strength, an increase in the relative concentration of styreneoxide, a change in the color of the sample from white to yellow, and cracks arise. The longer the time of sunand ultraviolet radiation can accelerate styrofoam plastics degradation.

Abstract

This study were aims to obtain flavonoid derivative compounds that have the potential as nsP2 proteaseinhibitors from the chikungunya virus (CHIKV) by molecular docking method and to examined theinteraction of flavonoids derived from screening results. The results showed that after going through amolecular docking process using PyRx 0.8 software, flavonoid derivative compounds were potentialinhibitors of six flavonoid groups, namely hesperidin, rhoifolin, myricetin, genistin, peonidin, phlorizinwhich had a root means square deviation (RMSD) value of 0Å with binding affinity values respectively -9.4;-8,5; -8,1; -7.9; -7.6; and -6.9 kcal/mol. Molecular visualization results show the occurrence of hydrophobicinteractions and the formation of hydrogen bonds.
