Abstract

The main purpose of this article is to do approximations graphically and mathematically the four-parameter generalized log-logistic distribution, denoted by G4LL(α,β,m_1,m_2), to the one-parameter Chi-square distribution with υ degrees of freedom. In order to achieve this purpose, this article creates graphically the probability density functions of both distribution and derives mathematically the MGF of the both distributions. To prove the MGF of Chi-square as a special case of the MGF of G4LL distribution, we utilized an expansion of the MacLaurin series. The results show that graphically, the Chi-square distribution can be approximated by the generalized log-logistic distribution. Moreover, by letting α=1,β=-ln⁡(2m_2 ),m_1=v/2 and m_2→∞, the MGF of the G4LL distribution can be written in the form of the MGF of the Chi-square distribution. Thus, the Chi-square distribution is a limiting or special case distribution of the generalized log-logistic distribution. The main purpose of this article is to do approximations graphically and mathematically the four-parameter generalized log-logistic distribution, denoted by G4LL(α,β,m_1,m_2), to the one-parameter Chi-square distribution with υ degrees of freedom. Abstract

During the last ten years, the growth of apartment buildings in Surabaya has encountered the bitter experience of global warming, resource depletion, energy scarcity, and other environmental impacts. We cannot avoid them, but we can minimize the negative impacts of global warming. The green building concept is one of the methods to minimize the environmental impact. It takes into account principles of sustainable development in planning, construction, operation, and maintenance. Greenship Rating Tools is used to evaluate and calculate green achievements, prior to green building certification. The aim of this research is to represent the perceptions of contractors and consultants toward application of Greenship Rating Tools on apartment buildings in Surabaya. Based on the data obtained from a questionnaires survey carried out to 41 respondents, the mean value ranking method is used to evaluate the main factors of Greenship. These factors are Appropriate Site Development, Energy Efficiency and Conservation, Water Conservation, Material Resource and Cycle, Indoor Health and Comfort, and Building Environmental Management. In general, the results of this research show that there are a number of differences between perceptions of contractors and consultants toward application of Greenship Rating Tools on apartment buildings in Surabaya. According to the contractors’ perception, Visual Comfort is a factor that would easily to be applied, whilst consultants’ is Landscape. On the other hand, there are factors that would difficult to be applied. Based on contractors’ perceptiom is Climate Change, while consultants’ perception is Renewal Energy. In summary, Greenship Rating Tools can be applied on contractors’ and consultants’ perceptions, whilst there are some variables which can not be applied.

Abstract

Red roselle (Hibiscus saddariffa L.) is a short day plant, this plant is only cultivated in a certain time period. There is a need to manipulate the environment where this plant can grow. The objective of this research was to study the influence of day length tothe relative growth rate (RGR) of H.sabdariffaL. Day length treatment was carried out by covering plants by black cover. Day length treatments were given in 8, 9,10, 11 and 12 hours of light exposure. Parameters measured were RGR of height plant, diameter of stem, number, and color of leaves. Harvesting was carried out when the flower crown fell or petals furl (the age of plants reached 3-4 months). The result of this research showed that highest plant was obtained at 10 hours day length (128.20 cm), the largest stem diameter growth rate was obtained at 8 hours (1.79 cm), number of leaves at 10 hours (183.40),and green color of leaves on 12 hours (scale 4). The highest RGR was obtained at 8 hours for all parameters except the height of plant and the color of leaves. Plant height, diameter and number of leaves at 8,9,10, and 11 hours of day length did not show significance difference. This showed that roselle is a short day length plant that grow optimal under 12 hours of day length.

Abstract

Complexes of zinc (II) with pyridine-2,6-dicarboxylic acid were synthesized from a reaction between zinc(II) chloride and pyridine-2,6-dicarboxylic acid with two different methods. The first method was carried out by reflux method, mixing a certain mole ratio of metal and ligand in the mixed solution of methanol:water (1:1) as the solvent. The second method was carried out by employing a direct reaction of metal and ligand in a 1:2 mole ratio of the same solvent as it is of the first method. The first method yielded a small clear crystal grains shaped like parallelogram with the molecular formula of [Zn(H2dipic,dipic)Zn2(10H2O)]Cl4∙5H2O (Complex I-trinuclear). The second method yielded the colorless needle-like crystals and molecular formula [Zn(H2dipic)2Zn(H2O)5]Cl4∙2H2O (Complex II-dinuclear). Both complex compounds were tested their toxicity using Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT) method and obtained LC50 values of 989.26 and 503.32 ppm, respectively.
