Abstract

The research aims to study the effect of empty fruit bunches  of palm oil compost (EFBPOC) which is enriched with palm oil bunch ash (POBA), palm oil mill effluent (POME), and Trichoderma on the growth and yield of soybean as a crop on the sidelines of the young palm oil plantations in peatlands. The Study Research using randomized block design (RBD) consisting of 6 treatments ie: without EFBPOC; 5 tons/ha EFBPOC; 5 tons/ha EFBPOC + 100 l/ha POME + 0.2 kg/ha of Trichoderma; 5 tons/ha EFBPOC + 0.5 tons/ha OPBA + 100 L/ha POME + 0.2 kg/ha Trichoderma; 5 tons/ha EFBPOC + 1 tons/ha OPBA + 100 L/ha POME + 0.2 kg/ha of Trichoderma; 5 tons / ha EFBPOC + 1.5 tons/ha OPBA + 100 L/ha of POME+ 0.2 kg / ha of Trichoderma and 3 reflications. The data obtained were statistically analyzed using analysis of variance (F test) and continued with DNMRT (Duncan s New Multiple Range Test ) at 5% level. The results showed EFBPOC without enrichment and enriched with 100 l/ha  POME + 0.2 kg/ha trichoderma and the addition of 0.5 up to 1.5 tons/ha OPBA able to increase plant height, number of primary branches, days to flowering, number of pods, the percentage of pithy pods, seed weight at plot and a dry weight of 100 seeds of soybeans grown on the young oil palm plantations on peatlands, wich all soybeans planted without EFBPOC have dead at 3 month after planted. Giving 5 tons/ha EFBPOC + 1 ton/ha OPBA + 100 l/ha POME + 0.2 kg/ha of Trichoderma provides the highest seed weight is 239.60 g/m2 (2.40 tonnes/ha).

Abstract

A research has been conducted to study the effect of the concentration of mutagen SA and obtain the best concentration to improve generative growth and yield components of M-1 generation on two local varieties upland rice from Pelalawan Regency. The research has been conducted at UPT Kebun Percobaan, Agriculture Faculty, University of Riau, from April to July 2014. The research used factorial experiment arranged in a Randomized Block Design (RBD). The treatments consisted of two local varieties upland rice from Pelalawan Regency (Korea and Lombo Sawah) and five concentrations of Sodium Azide (SA) (0,0 mM, 0,5 mM, 1,0 mM, 1,5 mM, 2,0 mM). Each treatment was replicated four times. Data were analyzed statistically with Analysis of Variance and the means were tested with Duncans New Multiple Range Test (DNMRT) at 5% level. Parameters observed were days to maturity, number of grains per panicle, filled grains percentage per panicle, filled grains weight per panicle and filled grains weight per clump. The result indicated that SA affected on increase number of grains per panicle and decrease filled grains percentage per panicle and filled grains weight per panicle. SA at concentration of 1,00 mM gave a better effect, which caused an increase in number of grains per panicle and filled grains weights per clump at two local varieties of Pelalawan upland rice at M-1 generation.

Abstract

One of affected factor in oil palm seeds quality in main nursery was fertilization. One of organic fertilizer can be used was a biofertilizer. Theresearch aims to determine the effect and to obtain the best formulation of biofertilizer based on plant waste oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) seeds growth in main nursery. The research was conducted from March to June 2014. This research used to Completely Randomized Design (CRD), consists of 5 treatments with 4 replication, then obtained 20 experimental units. Treatment given was: without biofertilizer formulation; Bacillus sp. + Pseudomonas fluorescens + liquid waste rice + 1 % chitin + 10 % molasses; Bacillus sp. + Pseudomonas fluorescens + tofu liquid waste+ 1 % chitin + 10 % molasses;Bacillus sp. + Pseudomonas fluorescens + sago liquid waste + 1 % chitin + 10 % molasses; Bacillus sp. + Pseudomonas fluorescens + PKS liquid waste + 1 % chitin + 10 % molasses. Parameters measured were increase of seed high, increase of midrib number, increase stump diameter, root volume, root crown ratio and dry seeds weight. Data were analyzed using ANOVA followed by DNMRT further test at 5% level. The results of the research showed, the several formulationof biofertilizers basedon plant waste effected on all observed parameters, but not effected on increase of midrib number. Biofertilizer formulations based on tofuliquid waste and PKS liquidwaste showed better results on all observed parameters.

Abstract

Production of food crops, especially rice, corn, and soybeans affected by plant pests. This study aims to analyze the performance of productions and pests of food crops in Riau province within the last 5 years. Secondary data including data on production and pest of food crops in the period 2011-2015 was obtained from the relevant institutions. To validation and complete the secondary data done excavation of primary data from some  speakers who are competent. Data were analyzed descriptively, tabulatively and simply to answer the research objectives. The results showed that there has been a decline in production of food crops in Riau Province in the years 2011 - 2015 are quite high, namely rice from 524.788 tonnes to 403.917 tonnes (down 23.0%), corn from 33.197 tonnes to 30.870 tonnes (down 7.0% ), and soybeans from 7.100 tons to 2.145 tons (down 69.8%). The decrease in production primarily due to lower harvested area, with the percentage of each of them: rice 26%, maize 12%, and soybeans 76%. The production decline is also due to pest attack. The type and level of pest attack in the period 2011-2015 fluctuated. In rice plants, there are eight types of pest led to crop failure (puso), namely bird, rat, rice bug, golden apple snail, stem borer, brown spot disease, blast, and bacteria leaf blight then 9 pests cause heavy damage, namely mole cricket, black bug, wild pig, leaf folder, brown planthopper, armyworm, sheath blight disease, and iron toxicity. The total area of rice pest attacks by puso category 161,4 ha and heavily damaged 124,05 ha. In corn, there are three types of pest causing puso, namely wild pig, downy mildew, and armyworm then 5 pests cause heavy damage, namely cob borer, stem borer, leaf rust, leaf blight and brown spot. The total area of corn pest attack with puso category 7,06 ha and heavily damaged 14,5 ha. For soybean plants, no pests have caused puso and only one type of pest causing heavy damage, namely aphids, with area damaged only 0,07 ha.

Abstract

Plant growth regulator play an important role in contributing internal mechanisms of plant growth by interacting with some metabolic process, so that it could be required in enhancing crop production. The objective of this research was to observe the effect of giberelin on seed development, yield potential and seed quality of three soybean varieties. Afield experiment was conducted and arranged in split plot design with giberelin concentration as main plot and soybean varieties as subplot. Gibberellin concentration used consisted of 0 ppm, 125 ppm and 250 ppm. Three Soybean varieties were Grobogan, Wilis and Kaban. Parameter Observe were seed water concentration, seed dry weight, seed growth rate, effective filling period, number of poods per plant, grain weight per plant, grain yield m-2, 100-seed weight, seed protein and oil content. The result of this research indicated that application of Gibberellin did not significantly affect soybean seed development but increased soybean seed yield potential and slightly improved the quality of soybean seeds in 3 varieties tested.
