Abstract

One of the places that can overshadow the coffee plant seeds is under the shade of oil palm plants. In addition to utilizing shade of oil palm plants, cultivation of coffee in oil palm plantation land is done to make the coffee plants as intercrops. Another factor that consider in coffee plant nursery is fertilization. Fertilization is one way to get a good growth of coffee seeds. This research aims to determine the influence of giving tofu dregs compost and to know better dose for growth of Robusta coffee seeds is under the shade of oil palm plants. This research arranged  experimentally by using completely randomized design (CRD), which consists of 5 treatment. The treatment was repeated 4 times, so there are 20 experimental units. Each experimental unit contained 2 coffee seeds so that the overall amount of coffee seeds used were 40 seeds, then 1 seeds sampled at each treatment. The observed parameters were the plant height, number of leaves, stem diameter, leaf area and root volume. The results showed that dose of 300 g tofu dregs gives the best results on growth of coffee seeds. Keywords: coffee robusta, compost, tofu dregs

Abstract

This study aimes of determine the effect of mutagen Ethyl Methane Sulfonate (EMS) on upland local rice (Oryza sativa L.) varieties at generation M-1. This research has been carried out at the Department of Agrotechnology Greenhouse, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Riau, in November to December 2013. The research used factorial Completely Randomized Design consisting of two factors, namely two local rice varieties and five concentrations of mutagens EMS and four replications. The mean deviation between treatments tested by Duncan New Multiple Range Test (DNMRT) at the level of 5%. Parameters observed were time of first tiller appeared, lamina length, midrib length, seedling height, number of leaves, number of tillers, number of life seedling, the number of variegate seedling. Results indicated that the mutagen EMS at a concentration of 1%, reduced the number of first seedling appear, decreasing plant height, number of tillers and total life seeds.   Keywords: Upland rice, Ethyl Methane Sulfonate.

Abstract

Sansevieria is a horticultural plant species origin from Africa, Arab and Indonesia. Sansevieria has economic value and good prospects. These opportunities should must be balanced with plant propagation. Propagation by cuttings of plants with growth regulators to support growth. The research  aims is to know the effect of NAA, BA and both combination that supports the growth of Sansevieria aubrytiana cuttings. This research was conducted in the Screen House, Plant Laboratory Faculty of Agriculture, University of Riau, from September 2013 to March 2014. This research was conducted experimentally completely randomized design (CRD) with 5 treatments, with 3 replications. Data were analyzed of variance followed by Duncan's new multiple range test level of 5%. Parameters observed were percentage of live cuttings, rooted cuttings percentage, the percentage of cuttings formed tillers and number of tiller. The results showed no effect of growth regulators on the success of cuttings and seedlings growth of Sansevieria aubrytiana. Keywords: Sansevieria, Cuttings, PGR.

Abstract

The objective of the research is to study theinteraction of “EcengGondok” compost and organic mulch of Mucunabracteataandto obtain thebestcombination treatment for the growth of palmoil seedlings in the main nursery.The research has been conducted in the Experimental Field of Agriculture Faculty, Riau University, Pekanbaru for five months from August 2016 to January 2017. The experimental units were arranged in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of 2 treatment factors : “EcengGondok”compost (no “EcengGondok”compost, 50 g compost of “EcengGondok” and 100 g compost of “EcengGondok”) and mulch of Mucuna bracteata (no organic mulch, 50gorganic mulch of Mucuna bracteata and 100gorganic mulch of Mucuna bracteata). Each treatment repeated 3 times so that there were 27 palm oil seedlings.Observed parameters were seedling height increment, number of leaves increment, stem diameter increment, volume of root, dry weight of seedling, number of growing weeds in the polybag. The data were analyzed with ANOVA and the means of treatments were compared with DNMRT at 5 % level. Interaction effect of  “EcengGondok”compost and organic mulch of Mucuna bracteata was significant on the dry weight of seedling and thenumber of growing weeds in the polybag. Application of 100 g compost of “EcengGondok” and 100gorganic mulch of Mucuna bracteata resulted in a better growth of palmoil seedlings. Keywords : Palm oil seedling, compost of “EcengGondok”, organic mulch of Mucuna bracteata

Abstract

Growth regulators such as gibberellic acid (GA3) is expected to remove and prevent barriers imposed by geneticand enviromnental effect on plant growth and supposed to increase crop production. In this study, we intended todetermine the effect of GA3 on agronomic and yield components of four soybean varieties. The field experiment wasarranged in a split plot design with three replications. Three levels of GA3 concentrations such as 0 ppm as control, 125ppm and 250 ppm were assigned as main plot and sprayed over the plant at 21 days after planting. Four varietiesincluding Kaba, Grobogan, Wilis and Anjasmoro were used as subplots and the seed of each variety was sown in a plotsize of 3,2 m x 3 m. Several growth parameters and yield components were observed from each plot. The results showedthat GA3 effect was inconsistent for the four varieties. It appeared from this study that GA3 did not affect leaf area index,time to flower, time to harvest, number of filled pods per plant, seed number per plant, and harvest index for all varieties.Application of GA3 at levels of 125 and 250 ppm increased crop growth rate, plant height and internode length of mainstem in all genotypes except Anjasmoro. The main impact of different levels of GA 3 application was an increase in seedweight per plant and grain yield. The highest grain yield was achieved with application of 125 ppm GA 3 for Kaba andGrobogan and of 250 ppm for Wilis and Anjasmoro. This imply that application of GA 3 to soybeans genotypes has to betaken care with cautiously according to the genotypes.

Abstract

The experiment aims to observe the effect of mutagen concentration of sodium azide to the germination and seedling growth performance of upland rice varieties Jambek Rotan generation M-1 and the difference seedling growth of upland rice varieties Jambek Rotan on the generation of M-1 by application Sodium azide some mutagen concentration. The experiment was conducted in an area behind the Soil Laboratory , Faculty of Agriculture , University of Riau , from May to July 2015. Research arranged experimentally using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD), which consists of 5 treatments concentration of sodium azide (SA) , ie 0.0 mM SA , 0.5 mM SA, 1.0 mM SA, 1.5 mM SA and 2.0 mM SA and each treatment was replicated four times. Parameters observed were the percentage of live seedling , seedling height, number of leaves and the number of tillers. The results showed that the of sodium azide at a concentration of 2.0 mM produce the lowest percentage life seedling, but tended to produce the lower seedling height and the more number of tillers.

Abstract

A research has been conducted to study the effect of the concentration of mutagen SA and obtain the best concentration to improve generative growth and yield components of M-1 generation on two local varieties upland rice from Pelalawan Regency. The research has been conducted at UPT Kebun Percobaan, Agriculture Faculty, University of Riau, from April to July 2014. The research used factorial experiment arranged in a Randomized Block Design (RBD). The treatments consisted of two local varieties upland rice from Pelalawan Regency (Korea and Lombo Sawah) and five concentrations of Sodium Azide (SA) (0,0 mM, 0,5 mM, 1,0 mM, 1,5 mM, 2,0 mM). Each treatment was replicated four times. Data were analyzed statistically with Analysis of Variance and the means were tested with Duncans New Multiple Range Test (DNMRT) at 5% level. Parameters observed were days to maturity, number of grains per panicle, filled grains percentage per panicle, filled grains weight per panicle and filled grains weight per clump. The result indicated that SA affected on increase number of grains per panicle and decrease filled grains percentage per panicle and filled grains weight per panicle. SA at concentration of 1,00 mM gave a better effect, which caused an increase in number of grains per panicle and filled grains weights per clump at two local varieties of Pelalawan upland rice at M-1 generation.

Abstract

This research aims to observe the effect of the concentration combination of cytokines (Kinetin) and auxin (2,4-D) in the induction medium MS to the development of the apical meristem explant shoots chicks of sago plant suckers. The research was carried out in the Laboratory of Plant Biotechnology Department of Agrotechnology Faculty of Agriculture, University of Riau, from October 2014 to January 2015. The experimental units were arranged in a completely randomized design consisting of six treatments: P1 = 0.1 mg/l kinetin + 5 mg/l 2,4-D; P2 = 0.1 mg/l kinetin + 10 mg/l 2,4-D; P3 = 0.1 mg/l kinetin + 15 mg/l 2,4-D; P4 = 0.2 mg/l kinetin + 5 mg/l 2,4-D; P5 = 0.2 mg/l kinetin + 10 mg/l 2,4-D; P6 = 0.2 mg/l kinetin + 15 mg/l 2,4-D and were replicated three times. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance and further analyzed with Duncan’s New Multiple Range Test at 5 % level. Parameters measured were shoot emergence time (days), number of shoots, shoots height (cm) and the number and percentage of shoots contaminated (%). The results showed that the addition of some concentration of kinetin and 2,4-D in MS induction medium affected on the development of the apical meristem explant shoots chicks of sago plant suckers. The best development of the apical meristem explant shoots of sago plant suckers was found on the combination of kinetin 0.2 mg/l + 10 mg/l 2,4-D.

Abstract

Plant growth regulator play an important role in contributing internal mechanisms of plant growth by interacting with some metabolic process, so that it could be required in enhancing crop production. The objective of this research was to observe the effect of giberelin on seed development, yield potential and seed quality of three soybean varieties. Afield experiment was conducted and arranged in split plot design with giberelin concentration as main plot and soybean varieties as subplot. Gibberellin concentration used consisted of 0 ppm, 125 ppm and 250 ppm. Three Soybean varieties were Grobogan, Wilis and Kaban. Parameter Observe were seed water concentration, seed dry weight, seed growth rate, effective filling period, number of poods per plant, grain weight per plant, grain yield m-2, 100-seed weight, seed protein and oil content. The result of this research indicated that application of Gibberellin did not significantly affect soybean seed development but increased soybean seed yield potential and slightly improved the quality of soybean seeds in 3 varieties tested.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to determine the interraction of giving coconut water and trichokompos oil palm empty bunch and the best combination of treatment for the growth of the eye stum rubber bed. The research was conducted at Experimental Station, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Riau on March 2017 until June 2017, implemented by Randomized Complete Design (RAL) Factorial consisting of 2 factors and 3 replications. The first factor is the provision of coconut water (A) consists of 3 levels: A1 (250 cc.l-1 water), A2 (500 cc.l-1 water), A3 (750 cc.l-1 water). The second factor is the provision of trichokompos (B) consists of 3 levels: B1 (100 g per polybag), B2 (200 g per polybag), B3 (300 g per polybag). Each unit consists of 2 plants there are 54 plants. Parameters measured were time buds appear (days), shoot length (cm), number of leaves (pieces), shoot diameter (cm) and shoot dry weight (g). The result of the variance were continued by Duncan multiple distance test at 5% level. The results showed combination treatment with coconut water giving 750 cc.l-1 water and trichokompos 200 g per polybag showed the best results for the time parameter appearing shoots, shoot length, number of leaves, stem diameter and dry weight of shoots.
