Abstract

Pest control with usage entomopathogenic fungi opportunity was developing as biological control agent for example: Cordyceps militaris Fries local. The experiment was conducted in Plant Pest Laboratory from August until September 2015. The objectives study was to find the better prapagation medium for control rhinoceros beetles larvae (grubs). The experiment used completely randomized design (CRD) with three treatment and nine replication. The treatment tasted were maize, rice sifting and red seeds. The result showed that all propagation medium can be used to as propagation medium entomopathogenic fungi local Cordyceps militaris Fries and effective to control Oryctes rhinoceros L. grubs in laboratorium.

Abstract

The study aims to determine the effect of biochar and biochar coconut palm fronds and the appropriate dose for the growth of oil palm seedlings in peat medium. Research using a completely randomized design with 7 treatments and 3 replications. The treatment consists of: A = without biochar, B = biochar coconut shell (BCS) 10 ton ha-1, C = BCS 15 ton ha-1, D = BCS 20 ton ha-1, E = biochar fronds of palm oil (BFPO) 10 ton ha-1, F = BFPO 15 ton ha-1 and G = BFPO 20 ton ha-1.Data were analyzed statistically by analysis of variance and tested by HSD 5%. The results showed granting biochar coconut shells and fronds of palm on peat soils real effect on convolution weevil, while plant height, leaf number, stem length, fresh weight of roots, fresh weight of shoot, fresh weight of the plants, root dry weight, dry weight of the canopy and dry weight of the plant is not pregnant. Giving biochar coconut shell 37.5 g / polybag (15 ton ha-1) may increase 12.46% over the hump convolution without biochar.

Abstract

Parasitoids is one of natural enemies that have the potential to be developed and play a role in pests control Setothosea asigna van Eecke on oil palm plants in the field. The pests high attacks intensity S. asigna effect on the production of palm oil. The role of parasitoids in the field reduce the existence of pests S. asigna so that palm oil plant damage could be reduced. This study attempts to find out the attack intensity larva S. asigna and the form parasitoids associated with larva S. asigna. The study has carried out on PT. X Ukui Village, Ukui District, Pelalawan Regency, Riau Province and Laboratory of Plants Pest Faculty of Agriculture, University of Riau. This research is a survey with a method of purposive sampling on locations which the most be attacked by S. asigna with heavy attack criteria, consisting of 3 sample plants, location on each 10%, 9 plants so that obtained 27 sample plants. The research results show the number of attack intensity is 37%. The number S. asigna 4,59 each midrib. Parasitoids associated with larva S. asigna has not been found.

Abstract

This study attempted  to determine the change of  morphological and  physiological traits of fruit palm oil during the fruit development until harvest. Forty eight fruit bunchs which antheses at the same day were selected at random from oil palm trees in the Experimental Station of PT Panca Surya Garden at Kubang Raya, Kampar. The fruit bunches were hand pollinated at 18 April 2015 and each was covered by pollination bag. Starting at 30 days after pollination (DAP), 3 fruits bunches were harvested at 15 day interval until fruits were ready to harvest. The change of morphological and physiological traits were observed  such as fresh weight, dry weight, fruit moisture content, thickness of mesocarp, fruit diameter, fruit volume and fruit color. The data analysis were performed by simple regression assingned day after pollination as independent variable and the traits observed as dependent variables.  The results indicated that change in morphological traits such as mesocarp thickness, fruit volume, fruit diameter occurred in similar pattern. Rapid change of  the value appeared from 30 to 75 DAP, followed by very slow increased from 75 to 150 DAP and finally the  rapid increase from 150 to 180 DAP. The pattern of dry weight and fresh weight change was similar, in which progressive increase was occurred  from 30 to 180 DAP then followed by decreased until 187 DAP. Moisture concentration of the fruit increased slightly from 30 to 45 DAP than decreased progressively from 45 to 187 DAP. Fruit color changed from dark purple to red purple and finally at harvest the color change to yellow red.
