EL HARAKAH (ISSN 1858-4357 and E-ISSN 2356-1734) is peer-reviewed journal published biannually by Maulana Malik Ibrahim State Islamic University (UIN) of Malang. The journal is accredited based on the decree No. 36a E. KPT 2016 on 23 May 2016 by the Directorate General of Higher Education of Indonesia, for the period August 2016 to August 2021 (SINTA 2). The journal emphasizes on aspects related to Islamic Culture in Indonesia and Southeast Asia. We welcome contributions from scholars in the field, papers maybe written in Bahasa Indonesia, English, or Arabic.

Abstract

This research focused on the strategic aspect to cultural acculturation in the artof selawatan gembrung wich existed in the community and formed a culturalsystem of moral values. As a valuable art, the existence of selawatan gembrungis still needed in Ponorogo, Madiun, Ngawi, Magetan, Pacitan, and TrenggalekRegency to counter the individualism as the influence of globalization. Thisidentification will formulize the socialization pattern of religious and goodcharacter values in cultural acculturation within developing community andwill be useful for writing a module as a reference for better understanding,comprehension, and implementation of religious and good character values.This study is qualitative research based on sociology of religion approuch which tries to reveal the harmonization between religion doctrine and tradition or culture in community that is well known as acculturation in anthropologyand sociology. This study found the aspects of acculturation on text, costume,gamelan instruments, and stage ritual of selawatan gembrung. Abstract

Sedekah Bumi (earth’s alms) is an ethnic ritual to show their high regard to the earth as a place to live in. People depend on earth as it is a place where they do farming, get drink and food, and do other activities. For this reason, they feel that there should be any ceremony that shows their gratitude to the earth. Besides that, sedekah bumi also reflects thankfulness for people’s walfare and fortune and it is also believed to bring abundant crops. In Islamic perspective, the ritual of Sedekah Bumi accords to some Islamic principles, however, some ideas are also contradicted.
