Abstract

The study aimed to determine the effect of scarification and soaking in potassium nitrate on breaking of oil palm seed dormancy and to know the best treatment combination of all treatments tested.  The experiment was conducted on January2013  to March  2013 in theincubation room at the Village Pagarawan Merawang District.Research using 2x3 factorial arranged in completely randomized design, repeated 8 times. The first factor was scarification treatment that consists of injured seed coat and no injured seed coat. The second factor was chemical treatment that consists of soaking potassium nitrate with a concentration of 0 %, 0.1%, 0.2%. Parameters observed was First Count Germination (FCG),MaximumGrowthPotential,Germination,Seedling growth rates, The rootlength, length ofplumula, Dormancy intensity,Normalembryos. Data were analyzed using variance analysis followed by Duncans Multiple Range Test with α = 5%.The results showed that the average speed of germination treatments (combination of scarification and KNO3)give a mean value of 2.38% growth rate per Etmal. Without scarification with a mean of 1.66 Per Etmal. The best treatment is a combination of the scarification treatment with 0.2% KNO3 concentration had growth rates of 2.56%/Etmal.

Abstract

Pepper seed availability in large amount and have high qualities are needed to support pepper development and production. Pepper multiplication by node cutting method is one of alternatives way to provide pepper seed in large amount and quickly. Root stimulation accelerates node-cutting growth and development providing well and uniform pepper seed vigorous with giving growth hormones, such as auxin. The research aimed to identify effect of Indolebutyric acid (IBA) and Naphthalene acetic acid (NAA); combine with Indolebutyric acid (IBA) and Naphthalene acetic acid (NAA) to pepper node-cutting development. The experiment used Complete Randomized Block Design with 25 traits hormone. Data analysis used Complete Randomized Block Design analysis of variance and significant test by Duncan in 95% probability. The results showed that growth hormones (IBA, NAA, and IBA + NAA) give similar effect to node-cutting growth in one node-tip. Pepper node-cutting development in one node-tip obtained by 2000-3000 ppm hormone concentration.

Abstract

The research aimed to find the appropriate plant spacing and weeding period to onion growth and production in ultisol land. Furthermore, the objective of the research is to identify interaction between plant spacing and weeding period and its effect to onion growth and production. The experiment conducted in May 2014 – July 2014 in Experimental Field, Faculty of Agriculture, Fisheries and Biology, Bangka Belitung University. It used Factorial Completely Randomized Design with two factors and three repeated. First factor is plant spacing, consist of J1 (10 x 15 cm) and J2 (20 x 15 cm). Second factor is weeding period, consist of P0 (without weeding), P1 (weeding in 7 day after palnting), P2 (weeding in 14 day after palnting), P3 (weeding in 21 day after palnting), P4 (weeding in 28 day after palnting), P5 (weeding to harvest time). The result showed plant spacing 20 x 15 cm and weeding period until harvest time give the great result to onion growth and production. Furthermore, it showed that no interaction between plant spacing and weeding period.

Abstract

Indonesia is the second pepper producing country in the world, instead of Vietnam. Bangka Belitung as one of pepper producing area in Indonesia has to increase quality  and quantity through Good Agriculture Practice (GAP). Petaling Banjar is one of village which apply GAP system. This research aimed to identify condition of implemenation GAP of pepper in Pataling Barat Village, pepper producitvity, and to analyze the effect of GAP implementation to pepper productivity in Petaling Banjar village. The method used survey to 36 farmers as sample. Data analysis used Double Linear Regression, F-test and T-test. The results showed that land selection and harvest and post-harvest handling variables are in “well’ categories. Water management and seed planting variables are in “good” category. Cultivation and pest and disease control management variables are in “enough” category. Generally, GAP implemented by farmers in Petaling Banjar village categorized to “Good”. Pepper production rate is 0,5 kg/plant and pepper productivity is 798,85 kg/ha. Based on F-test, GAP of pepper gives significant effect to pepper productivity. T-test showed that seed planting gives significant effect to pepper production. Double linear regression test showed that seed planting increase pepper productivity highly with partial-coeficient regression value is 1,503, land selection is 1,068, cultivation is 0,956, water management is 0,737, soil management is 0,279, harvest and post-harvest is 0,214, and pest and disease control management is 0,044.

Abstract

Tidal swamp areas in Indonesia have important role and strategic for agricultural development, especially to support national food security. It has a potency, land productivity and management technology. Tidal swamp land have a large area which potentially used as agricultural land, especially for rice. There are constraints for agriculture in tidal swamp areas, such as: (1) low soil fertility, (2) infrastructure is not optimally function, (3) low education farmer, (4) harvest index once a years, dan (5) high pest attacks. Total damages and losts effected by climate change, such as flood and drought, increase time by time. Because tidal swamp areas have different characteristic, we need information about the condition in an extreme climate change and its damages causes yield loses in tidal swamp areas. The rereach aimed to identify relatedness between climate change and crop production in tidal swamp areas, especially in South Sumatera. Climatic factor which giving effect to production, harvest area and rice productivity in South Sumatera from 2000 to 2012 is rainfall. It means that water availability will greatly effect the production, harvest area, and rice productivity. Sunlight and temperature have not a big role to increase production, harvest area and productivity, but there is increasing trend in temperature and lighting give effect to production, harvest area and rice productivity. Otherwise,  high humidity gives effect in decreasing production, harvest area and rice productivity.
