Abstract

The implementation of non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) and transmit antenna selection (TAS) technique has considered in this paper since TAS-aware base station (BS) provides the low cost, low complexity, and high diversity gains. In this paper, we investigate performance of two users by deriving outage probability. The system performance benefits from design of TAS and full-duplex (FD) scheme applied at NOMA users, and bandwidth efficiency will be enhanced although self-interference exists due to FD. The main contribution lies in the exact expressions of outage probability which are derived to exhibit system performance. Different from the simulated parameters, the analytical results show that increasing number of transmit antennas at the BS is way to improve system performance.

Abstract

A crucial part of the brain-computer interface is a classification of electroencephalography (EEG) motor tasks. Artifacts such as eye and muscle movements corrupt EEG signal and reduce the classification performance. Many studies try to extract not redundant and discriminative features from EEG signals. Therefore, this study proposed a signal preprocessing and feature extraction method for EEG classification. It consists of removing the artifacts by using discrete fourier transform (DFT) as an ideal filter for specific frequencies. It also cross-correlates the EEG channels with the effective channels to emphases the EEG motor signals. Then the resultant from cross correlation are statistical calculated to extract feature for classifying a left and right finger movements using support vector machine (SVM). The genetic algorithm was applied to find the discriminative frequencies of DFT for the two EEG classes signal. The performance of the proposed method was determined by finger movement classification of 13 subjects and the experiments show that the average accuracy is above 93 percent.

Abstract

Pooling methods are used to select most significant features to be aggregated to small region. In this paper, anew pooling method is proposed based on probability function. Depending on the fact that, most information is concentrated from mean of the signal to its maximum values, upper half of Gaussian function is used to determine weights of the basic signal statistics, which is used to determine the transform of the original signal into more concise formula, which can represent signal features, this method named half gaussian transform (HGT). Based on strategy of transform computation, Three methods are proposed, the first method (HGT1) is used basic statistics after normalized it as weights to be multiplied by original signal, second method (HGT2) is used determined statistics as features of the original signal and multiply it with constant weights based on half Gaussian, while the third method (HGT3) is worked in similar to (HGT1) except, it depend on entire signal. The proposed methods are applied on three databases, which are (MNIST, CIFAR10 and MIT-BIH ECG) database. The experimental results show that, our methods are achieved good improvement, which is outperformed standard pooling methods such as max pooling and average pooling.

Abstract

The paper deals with application of Kalman filter in induction motor drive using pulse-width modulation direct torque control (PWM-DTC). In the first part, the conventional PWM-DTC drive is described and Kalman filter is utilized to filter components of stator current vector those are assumed to be disturbed by white noise. The second part contains simulation results that are obtained in different cases of load torque, process and measurement noise covariances. The integral time absolute error (ITAE) performance index, undershoot, ripple of important quantities are used to compare the conventional drive structure and proposed drive structure with Kalman filter. The simulation results confirm the expected dynamic response of the proposed structure.

Abstract

Power radial distribution systems are increasingly more and more important in transmitting the electric energy from power plants to customers. However, total loss in lines are very high. This issue can be solved by allocating capacitor banks. Determining the suitable allocation and optimal sizing of capacitor banks needs an efficient approach. In this study, the diffusion and update techniques-based algorithm (DUTA) is proposed for such reason. The efficiency of DUTA is inspected on two distribution systems consisting of 15-bus and 33-bus systems with different study cases. The solutions attained by DUTA are competed with recently published methods. As a consequence, the method is more effective than the other methods in terms of the quality of solution.

Abstract

Optimal network configuration is one of the effective approaches for power loss reduction of the distribution network. This paper shows a network reconfiguration method using improved backtracking search algorithm (IBSA). Wherein, IBSA is improved in the process of generating randomly the initialization population. The network reconfiguration method based on IBSA is used to find the optimal network configuration for the 33-node and 69-node systems. The results are compared to the original backtracking search algorithm (BSA), particle swarm optimization (PSO), firefly algorithm (FA) and previous approaches. From the compared results, IBSA can determine the optimal network configuration with higher success rate than BSA, PSO, FA and lower power loss than other previous approaches. As a result, IBSA is an effective approach for finding the optimal network configuration.

Abstract

The target of this paper is designing a boundary controller for vibration suppression of marine risers with coupling mechanisms under environmental loads. Based on energy approach and the equations of axial and transverse motions of the risers are derived. The Lyapunov direct method is employed to formulated the control placed at the riser top-end. Proof of existence and uniqueness of the solutions of the closed-loop system is provided. Stability analysis of the closed-loop system is also included.

Abstract

Automation of several payment processes from start to end is a challenging task, particularly when multiple payments from online and offline billers are involved. In this paper, we introduced a new aggregator system to combine all billing system types, in which it is possible to pay invoices electronically. The proposed aggregator system was designed to be employed in a cloud-based Billers Hub (CBBH) developed by the central banks. Furthermore, many applications can be realized such as; deposit e-money, withdrawal e-money, and other applications. A Gateway translator is used to apply authentication rules, security, and privacy. The proposed system was employed in the Jordanian payment gateway and successfully fulfills its purpose.

Abstract

Cloud computing is one of the platforms that drive organisations and users to be better prepared for a simpler computing platform and offers significant benefits to the quality of work. The transition from conventional computing to the virtual world helps organisations to maximise their potential. However, not all users can accept cloud computing adoption. Failure to understand the factors of user's acceptance will negatively impact the organisation's mission of empowering the technology. Therefore, this study proposes to assess to what extent the users are accepting cloud computing. This study adopts the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) and six technological and human factors assessed for the Malaysian public sectors. Survey data from several ministries were analysed using partial least squares-structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM). The study found out that performance expectancy, compatibility, security, mobility, information technology (IT) knowledge, and social influence had a significant impact on the user's intention to accept cloud computing. The results of this study contribute to a clear understanding of the factors affecting the Malaysian public sectors about cloud computing.

Abstract

Visual impairment is the condition of someone who has a disorder or an obstacle in their vision. In this research, the implementation of light follower systems for visually impaired using visible light is proposed. This system can enable visually impaired people to determine orientation and support mobility, especially in an indoor situation, using visible light. The prototype of the visually impaired pathway was made as visible light communication (VLC) transmitter consisting of a 12 V power supply, light emitting diode (LED), MPEG-1 Layer-3 (MP3), and band pass filter (BPF) filter circuit. The VLC receiver is made a prototype of a blind stick consisting of a photodiode, amplifier, buzzer, timer, and 9 V battery. The measurement of this system uses acrylic and color filters with system accuracy taking into account the angle and conditions when the fluorescent lights are turned on and off. This result showed the system could transmit audio signals at a frequency of 3000 Hz. Furthermore, the comparison results showed that the quality of measurements without using a filter is better than using a filter. The output voltage value without using a filter with an angle of 700 degree is 7.19 Vp-p, meanwhile using a filter with an angle of 700 degree is 6.48 Vp-p.
