Abstract

The problem facing certain organizations such as insurance companies and government institutions where a huge amount of documents is handled every day, hence an automated stamp recognition system is required. The image of the stamp may be on a different background, with different sizes, and suffers from rotating in different directions, also, the appearance of soft areas (patches) or small points as noise. Thus, the main objective of this paper is to extract and recognize the color stamp image. This paper proposed a method to recognize stamps, by using a technique named Haar wavelet sub-bands. The devised method has four stages: 1) extracts the stamp image; 2) preprocessing the image; 3) feature extraction; and 4) matching. This paper is implemented using C sharp (Microsoft Visual Studio 2012) programming language. The experiments conducted on a stamp dataset showed that the proposed method has a great capability to recognize stamps when using Haar wavelet transform with two sets of features (i.e., 100% recognition rate for energy features and 99.93% recognition rate for low order moment).

Abstract

In the field of health and medicine, there is a very important term known as clinical trials. Clinical trials are a type of activity that studies how the safest way to treat patients is. These clinical trials are usually written in unstructured free text which requires translation from a computer. The aim of this paper is to classify the texts of cancer clinical trial documents consisting of unstructured free texts taken from cancer clinical trial protocols. The proposed algorithm is conditional random Fields and bigram features. A new classification model from the cancer clinical trial document text is proposed to compete with other methods in terms of precision, recall, and f-1 score. The results of this study are better than the previous results, namely 88.07 precision, 88.05 recall and f-1 score 88.06.

Abstract

Electric energy consumption in a residential household is one of the key factors that affect the overall national electricity demand. Household appliances are one of the most electricity consumers in a residential household. Therefore, it is crucial to make a proper prediction for the electricity consumption of these appliances. This research implemented feature engineering technique and long short-term memory (LSTM) as a model predictor. Principal component analysis (PCA) was implemented as a feature extractor by reducing the final 62 features to 25 principal components for the LSTM inputs. Based on the experiments, the two-layered LSTM model (composed by 25 and 20 neurons for the first and second later respectively) with lookback number of 3 found to give the best performance with the error rates of 62.013 and 26.982 for RMSE and MAE, respectively.

Abstract

This paper addresses the essential part of modelling primary user (PU) activity pattern in the time domain, which involved choosing the best distribution fit to represent idle and busy time. The accurate PU activity model plays a vital role in developing high-performance cognitive radio (CR) network. This work formulates the PU activity model by using the empirical data measured from wireless local area network (WLAN) testbed. The detected idle time analysed in this work in two different scenarios, then a statistical approach performed to find the best fits. The finding shows the generalised Pareto (GP) distribution as the best fit with DKS=0.266 compared to other distribution fits.

Abstract

Strategies for the procurement of goods and services are essential for companies in Indonesia's manufacturing and logistics sectors. The solution to reducing the existing problem is to make a mapping plan, such as verifying documents from each department, so that it takes a long time, resulting in many issues, such as procedural misuse findings. Heuristics miner algorithms get data to form logs that consist of goods and services procurement activities. Processing log data into XML data (data extraction), which produces a dependency model and business and casual matrix (discovery process), then determines the value of fitness and precision (suitability) called the conformity checking phase process. This phase aims to produce a new business (process enhancement phase), which will create a solution to the risk of delay and procedural abuse. The results of each of these processes rank each stage of the procurement of goods and services sequentially and together to provide time-efficient and accurate decisions, resulting in project implementation comparable to the company's business strategy. Implement the heuristics miner algorithm using the Python programming language.

Abstract

The poor color rendering index (CRI) induced by mono chip and phosphor configuration in the conventional white-light light-emitting diode (LED) urges for developments in both packaging and material, thus, a modern lighting solution was introduced. The dual-layer phosphor package is an innovative configuration that can retain the lumen output of conventional white light emitting diode (WLED) while also enhancing color quality. The structure of dual-layer phosphor package that was proposed includes two chips and one phosphor. The priority in this research is to keep improving the lighting properties of WLED, therefore, further experiments with this dual-chips and dual-phosphor package are conducted. The lighting properties of LED are measured multiple times with its nitride-based phosphor being altered in proportions and densities each occasion, the results are calculated with a color design model made specifically to monitor and adjust the color of white-light from LED to match desired outcome. The WLED at 5600 K correlated color temperature (CCT) is the sole research object of the experiments. The measured parameters from the 5600 K WLED and the color coordinates of CIE 1931 simulated from the color design model show that 0.0063 is the highest possible discrepancy at 5600 K (CCT). The information from this manuscript provide the manufacturers with the most efficient approach to create a white LED that has good color quality, high CRI and luminous flux.

Abstract

Smart grid (SG) introduced proven power system, based on modernized power delivery system with introduction of advanced data-information and communication technologies (ICT). SGs include improved quality of power transmission/distribution from power generation to end-users with optimized power flow and efficiency. In addition to above modern automation, two-way communications, advanced monitoring, and control to optimize power quality issues are the classic features of SGs. This ensures the efficiency and reliability of all its interconnected power system elements against potential threats and life time cycle. By integrating ICT into the power system SGs improved the working capabilities of the utility companies. Resultant of ICT with SG leads to better management of assets and ensure energy management for end users. This review article presents the different areas of communication and information technology areas involved in SG automation.

Abstract

A crucial step in designing intelligent transport systems (ITS) is vehicle detection. The challenges of vehicle detection in urban roads arise because of camera position, background variations, occlusion, multiple foreground objects as well as vehicle pose. The current study provides a synopsis of state-of-the-art vehicle detection techniques, which are categorized according to motion and appearance-based techniques starting with frame differencing and background subtraction until feature extraction, a more complicated model in comparison. The advantages and disadvantages among the techniques are also highlighted with a conclusion as to the most accurate one for vehicle detection.

Abstract

The deep learning approach of supervised recurrent network classifiers model, i.e., recurrent neural networks (RNNs), long short-term memory (LSTM), and gated recurrent units (GRUs) are used in this study. The unidirectional and bidirectional for each cardiac disorder (CDs) class is also compared. Comparing both phases is needed to figure out the optimum phase and the best model performance for ECG using the Physionet dataset to classify five classes of CDs with 15 leads ECG signals. The result shows that the bidirectional RNNs method produces better results than the unidirectional method. In contrast to RNNs, the unidirectional LSTM and GRU outperformed the bidirectional phase. The best recurrent network classifier performance is unidirectional GRU with average accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, precision, and F1-score of 98.50%, 95.54%, 98.42%, 89.93% 92.31%, respectively. Overall, deep learning is a promising improved method for ECG classification.

Abstract

The research studies the effects of some weather parameters for Baghdad city on the output of the solar module of the type monocrystalline. The experimental part measures the electrical parameters of the photo-voltaic (PV) module for three levels of radiation rate 500, 750, and 1000 W/m2. The theoretical part includes the modeled and simulation of the PV panel, via the proposed mathematical single–diode model (SDM, 5 parameters), and Matlab-simulation. The Newton Raphson method was applied to find the output current of the solar panel and the plotting P-V, I-V curves.  The work involves preparing a simple mathematical model to estimate the optimal ambient conditions to give the highest output of the solar module. The validation of the model was verified by the practical testing of the cell for 6 months. The best results were obtained at standard testing conditions (25℃, 1000 W/m2). The output power calculated by the mathematical model was 30.1 W while from experimental work was 30.45 W. The relative error is 1.15%. The converge between experimental and modeling results for the same conditions is about 98.9% that proves the validity of the proposed model and the possibility of using it for all types of photovoltaic.
