Abstract

Device-to-device (D2D) communication system plays an extremely important role in fulfilling the demands of fourth generation (4G) and fifth generation (5G) technologies. 4G technology cannot meet high data demands. The D2D communication system is believed to provide major improvements in resource usage, energy efficiency, and overall throughput, which are the main demands for the 5G network. Some of the main issues in the D2D communication system involve spectrum efficiency and interference. Although many studies have been conducted on spectrum efficiency improvement and interference reduction, the issues still remain. A study should be conducted to obtain a better understanding of the D2D communication system and to develop a D2D scheme with efficient spectrum utilization and interference reduction. Many survey papers have been published on these issues, but the fundamental concepts behind the D2D communication system require investigation. In this study, we investigated and analyzed the fundamental concepts behind the D2D communication system to develop an efficient D2D resource allocation scheme with reduced interference.

Abstract

Arrhythmia is the prime indicator of serious heart issues, and, hence, it is essential to be detected properly for early phase treatment. This article presents an approach for the diagnosis of cardiac disorders via the recognition of 17 types of arrhythmia. The proposed approach includes building a convolution neural network (2D-CNN) which is trained by using images of Electrocardiograph (ECG) signals collected from the MIH-BIH database. The ECGs are first converted into images. This step serves twofold: first, CNN is best suited for classifying image data and thus reduces preprocessing, and second, most ECG recordings are still being produced on thermal paper which can then be captured as image. Next, 2D-CNN is trained and validated. Test results show that the proposed method achieves classification accuracy of 96.67% and error of 0.004%. in addition to the superior accuracy achieved by this method compared to the previous literature, this approach enjoys reduced processing time and complexity apart from the training phase, also by dealing with images this method offers high degree of versatility and can be integrated as utility within other applications or wearables.

Abstract

Internet connections still use IPv4 as the primary address protocol and it is now facing exhaustion. However, academic institutions specifically in the Philippines should devise steps to address the exhaustion of IPv4. In this paper, this is brought to light as we present the IPv4 to IPv6 campus transition techniques to address the issue. The experiment is carried out in Central Luzon State University and is assessed if the university is able to adopt the IPv6 transition in their campus network. Two IPv6 transition mechanisms were implemented and tested. As a general result, it has been found out, through testbeds, that the dual-stack transition mechanism is more suitable than 6 to 4 tunnel broker. The results have also shown that 6 to 4 tunnel broker was outperformed by dual-stack transition mechanism in all areas and presents better performance. Additionally, results also showed that IPv4 presents slight advantages in terms of network performance than IPv6 with a very small percentage in difference, and this does mean that migration to IPv6 is possible without performance detriments. Furthermore, the results also provide a proof of concept for the university especially in the Philippines to consider IPv6 for future migration within their campus network.

Abstract

In this paper, a reconfigurable modified Wilkinson Power Divider (WPD) was proposed. The operating frequencies of the proposed design were either at 2.5 GHz or 3.5 GHz for Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) applications. This proposed design is reconfigurable in terms of its operating frequency by using PIN diode switches. PIN diode switch was used in this design to reconfigure the microstrip line length. By varying the bias voltage of the PIN diode to +5 V or -5 V, the proposed modified WPD can either operate at 2.5 GHz or 3.5 GHz. Rogers RO4350 (er=3.48, h=0.508 mm) was chosen as the substrate material and copper (thickness=0.035 mm) related to patch of design. Based on simulation results obtained from the Advanced Design System (ADS) software, the modified WPD shows good S-parameter performances at 2.5 GHz and 3.5 GHz. However, the measurement results exhibit frequency shifted. Even though there is a correlation between measurement results and simulation results, the resonant frequency was shifted due to parasitic reactance of the PIN diode.

Abstract

Nutrient deficiencies in plants can be identified using a chlorophyll meter. However, current chlorophyll meters are still expensive and have many disadvantages. In this paper, a low-cost IoT-based chlorophyll meter has been developed. The performance of a low-cost IoT-based chlorophyll meter has been compared with the performance of a spectrophotometer (SP-3000nano) and a commercial chlorophyll meter (SPAD-502). A low-cost IoT-based chlorophyll meter has been functioning properly which is able to measure the chlorophyll content of plants in the field, get positions based on GPS satellites, store data in a memory module, and send data to the service system platform. The test results showed the coefficient of determination (R2) between SPAD-502 values and low-cost IoT-based chlorophyll meter values is 0.9705, this shows a significant correlation. An IoT-based chlorophyll meter can be used as a cheap alternative to the SPAD-502 chlorophyll meter.

Abstract

Anthocyanin is a type of natural pigment that gives color to plants and can be used to absorb visible light with wavelength of 400-600 nm. The absorption ability is very useful for dye in designing dye sensitized solar cell (DSSC). The anthocyanin can be extracted from blueberry and has unique characteristic of high stability when it reaches low pH. In this paper, design of DSSC with dye made of blueberry anthocyanin and its performance related to pH variation is presented. The performance was evaluated experimentally according to output voltage and current generated by 4 fabricated samples (pH of 1.5, 2, 2.6, 4.4) from A.M 1.5 sunlight and 10-watt LED. Experiment results show that for both light sources, dye with pH of 1.5 has the highest output voltage and current among the others. Since the output voltage and current are very small, the exsisting design of DSSC is suitable to be developed for optical sensor.

Abstract

Public services are available to all communities including people with disabilities. One obstacle that impedes persons with disabilities from participating in various community activities and enjoying the various public services available to the community is information and communication barriers. One way to communicate with people with disabilities is with hand gestures. Therefore, the hand gesture technology is needed, in order to facilitate the public to interact with the disability. This study proposes a reliable hand gesture recognition system using the convolutional neural network method. The first step, carried out pre-processing, to separate the foreground and background. Then the foreground is transformed using the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) to take the most significant subband. The last step is image classification with convolutional neural network. The amount of training and test data used are 400 and 100 images repectively, containing five classes namely class A, B, C, # 5, and pointing. This study engendered a hand gesture recognition system that had an accuracy of 100% for dataset A and 90% for dataset B.

Abstract

Chili is one of the most consumed food commodities in Indonesia. Thus, chili is very influential to the economic, also inflation and deflation of an area. In order for the needs of chili to be fulfilled and to be able to export, the production must be increased with one consideration being the selection of the right land. The right land must meet the criteria agreed upon by experts, there is land height, soil pH, nutrient value and ambient temperature. This research aims to create a system to support the decision of chili crop land selection using the weighted product method. By entering land data according to the criteria, the user can easily find out which land has the potential to have a higher suitability for chili plants. The result of this system is in the form of land ranking that can help users decide which land to use for chili cultivation.

Abstract

This research is about the readiness of teachers and students to develop E-learning and M-learning for the learning process. Before developing and implementing an E-learning and M-learning system, it is important to ensure the user's readiness for the technology. Users' perceptions will affect their willingness and readiness to use the system. This study aims to investigate the teachers and students perceptions about E-learning and M-learning, ensuring their readiness to involve in developing online learning process. The study was conducted by survey methods, questionnaires and direct interviews with prospective users in the schools, students, teachers and principals. Research respondents were from Junior High School and Senior High Schools in Samarinda. The questionnaires will be carried out in two stages, before and after the development of E-learning and M-learning systems. The findings obtained from this study indicate that research partner schools are ready and able to participate in developing E-learning and M-learning systems.

Abstract

Image watermarking algorithms can be implemented using time domain or frequency domain-based algorithms. Frequency domain watermarking produces watermarks with higher robustness; hence, many attempts have been proposed in literature using different transformations as DCT, SVD, and DWT. DWT was widely used for many reasons as its spatio-temporal feature, in which the alteration of certain portion will affect only the affected portion. In this paper an experimental comparison between the traditional DWT and the second generation of wavelet which is LWT is initiated. The experimental tests evaluated the performance of both transforms in terms of image quality and watermark robustness.
