Abstract

The terms "interior designer" and "interior decorator" are often used interchangeably, as if they were identical professions. Although both may have the ability and talent to createbeautiful rooms, the two are not synonymous.Interior decorators are primarily concerned with surface decoration, generally refers to someone who deals with finishes, surfaces, furniture, and wall coverings and no government regulation regarding the work of an interior decorator. On the other hand, an interior designer is one who is trained to create a functional and quality interior environment, qualified through education, experience and examination, so aprofessional designer can identify and creatively resolve issues and lead to a healthy, safe and comfortable physical environment. Referring to that definition, interior design is the art and science of understanding people's behavior in order to create functional spaces within the building structures, an in the other hand, an interior decoration is the art of decorating to beautify a space. Although an interior designer can also make aesthetic changes to an interior space, the interior designer is a professional licensed with a licensing authority who coordinates design projects with a holistic approach. This effort includes designing the interior architecture, in addition to beautifying the space.Keyword: interior, decoration design, comparative study.

Abstract

Japanese gardens have much variety of forms; however their identity can be recognized by viewer as Japanese when they see it. All designers of Japanese garden have to follow design principles of garden making which guide their sense creativity into sense of Japanese spirit. This article will focus on variety of forms of famous Japanese gardens and how their designer develops their creativity in shaping natural landscape into man-madeenvironment.Keywords : design principles, variety, creativity

Abstract

Thirty students of interior design study program Institut Seni Indonesia (Indonesia Institut of Art) Yogyakarta were participated in a study that investigate application of Problem Based Learning Model on 1st Management subject matter (about organization). The result showed that 83.3%participants interest to 1st Management that they didn't like before. As many as 79.2% participants felt that Problem Based Learning Model ease to learn to the subject matter. It is concluded that they more like this model than classical method common did.Keywords: problembased learning, management, organization, interior design

Abstract

May 27, 2006, was a somber day for the people living ini Yogyakarta and Central JavaProvinces. Sub-province of Bantul was the most severely hit by the earthquake happening earlyin the morning. Around 7.057 houses were sacked, including the craft village of Kasongan. Most Kasongan families now live in houses made avalaible by domestic and foreign aids. They have lived in the new houses for two years. During this time, they have to make adjusments to the new environment. This research is intended to observe how families living at the village of Kajen, Kasongan, make adjustments and adapt to the new conditions living in new houses supplied through aids. This village is purposely chosen as the sample. The result of the investigation indicates that people of this village has to return the heat during the day, doing activities by usingmulti-purpose space and furniture.Keywords : interior, adaptation, adjustment.

Abstract

Dome houses in the village of Sengir, Sumberharjo, Prambanan, Sleman, Yogyakartais aids from the World Assossiation of Non-Government Organization cooperated with theUnited States for the World Dome for victims of the earthquake which occurred in May 2006.Occupants of the house that started fromtheir house before the earthquake and then occupyingthe dome houses, and will adjust themselves (coping) with a new place. This adjustmentresulted in occupant behavior change (adaptation) or the population will change the housingenvironment (adjustment). The research problem is how the behavior of the dome dweller usedthe facility to accommodate activities that occur therein. The purpose of this study was to identifythe occupant behavior in the new setting. Occupant behavior was investigated by interview andobservation followed by mapping the behavior (behavioral mapping). Inductive analysis ofoccupant behavior and solution strategies in new settings by using categorization, descriptionsand explanations. Outline the research findings can be stated as follows: a) Strategy indetermining the behavior of new solutions (behaviors) that change the behavior or maintain thebehavior, b) Strategies for the dome houses a solution (physical) that makes the settings in thedome house or make new settings in the outer dome room, and c) Perception of the populationexperiencing a change after the physical and behavioral strategies.Keywords: dome house, behavior, adaptation, adjustment
