Abstract

Journalism could be a tool to produce news stories bombastically. Bombastic news on bad reality could produce bad things. In order not to make journalism producing bad things, we have to have some principles in reporting bad realities. The article suggests one principle: to present bad reality as the way it is. The practice of this principle is not so difficult since the fact has shown that the Indonesian press has been made public sphere on bad realities successfully. However, in practicing this principle, the joumalists still place their selves as doers inprofession and doers in media.

Abstract

This article begins from the thesis that citizen journalism values are the most genuine democratization shape in human being history. Citizen journalism values application, therefore, hare to be done in order to touch the grass root community that have no access to articulate their voice (voiceless). Citizen journalism values application in community radio needs many parts synergy.

Abstract

Public journalism or civic journalism is a movement that has taken over the last ten years in the USA. Public journalism has emerged along side a revival of interest in civil society and civic participation by improving the quality of news coverage,for example by replacing coverage of political strategy with analysis of substantive issues. In public journalism, public can participate in defining their events. According to Broadcasting Law No. 32/2002, Radio of Republic Indonesia (RRI) and Television of Republic Indonesia (TVRI) has become public broadcasting. As a public broadcasting, the use of public journalism is necessary to move government oriented news to public oriented news in both stations's newsroom. Although, there are some conceptual and technical problems in RRI and TVRI, the successful coverage of Saturday's earthquake, May 27,2006 in Yogyakarta could be a lesson that have to be leraned develop amodelofpublicjoumalisminbothinstitutions.

Abstract

This article studied the latest issues of media convergence that was facilitated by the internet and mobile technology, and also its influence on conventional media. Further, the discussion developed around the implications of media convergence towards principles and practices of conventional journalism. Although some principles that were related with basic ethics continued to be maintained in accordance with the universal journalism values: accurate, objective,fair, balance, and neutral, but in practice, the presence of online journalism reduced the conventional journalism techniques. The change happened due to the role of the journalist, gatekeeper, the medium, and the audience's behavior. To clarify discussions, the author will explain Detikcom's experiences in managing online news site as an actual case.

Abstract

Syariah principle that is happening now bears a new phenomenon, not only in financial field but also in media. Radio as one of mass media does not want to leave behind. One of radio that is based on syariah principle is Radio MQ FM Yogyakarta. In its operations, Radio MQ FM Yogyakarta creates news as the significant power. As a syariah radio, Radio MQ FM Yogyakarta's newsroom finds, collects, and delivers news by internalizing its own principle. The principle is BALM, abbreviationfrom Benar (Truth), Akurat (Accuracy), Lengkap (Completeness), and Manfaat (Useful). By using observation method, this research tries to describe all kinds of Radio MQFM Yogyakarta newsroom activities.

Journalism became a term that mass media had controlled the meaning for recent years. Audiences have no power to show their role in news production and dissemination. Now, when society face an information era, the power of knowledge and informations no longer lay-down only at newsroom or editors of mass media. Internet created many changes in the way people signify realities. Citizen journalism—as a new form of online journalism—offers a new paradigm and spirit which put individual as important subject in the process of social meaning construction.

Abstract

Disaster journalism is how a mass media reports about disasters. As a new genre of journalism, disaster journalism hasn’t been studied more by academicians. Whereas, this new genre of journalism is very important, because Indonesia is susceptible country of disasters, mass media always reports about disasters enthusiastically, society entrust the information of disasters from mass media, and unclear information always happen in every disaster. In the fact, many weakness of disasters journalism in Indonesia, those are: mass media enthusiasm as a collector and distributor of disaster aids, more than their role to inform disasters clearly and completely, inconsistent news report, dramatisation tendency injoumalism report, and no role of early warning system of disasters in mass media. Start from these critics, this article proposes some principles in disaster journalism, such as: accuracy, humanism, commitment to rehabilitation, and control and advocacy. Besides that, this article suggests some agendas: comprehensive research about disaster journalism, code ethic of disaster journalism building, and disaster journalismtraining for Indonesian journalists.
