Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the implementation of environmental education in Elementary School. The study was conducted at SDN 1 Kota Banda Aceh. The research subjects are school residents (students, teachers, education personnel, principals, and school committees). This research is designed using a qualitative approach. This study is focused on the implementation of environmental education in primary schools. Data collection uses observation sheet instrument (observation), focused interview, and Focus Group Discussion (FGD). The research data were analyzed descriptively. The results show that the implementation of environmental education can be realized in habituation to maintain personal hygiene, class cleanliness, and worship together according to his beliefs and sports.

Abstract

This study aimed at describing and explaining chemistry learning problems viewed from conceptual change model and misconceptions of students. The study was qualitative research of case study type conducted in one class of SMAN 1 Singaraja. Subjects of the study were a chemistry teacher and students. Data were obtained through classroom observation, interviews, and conception tests. The chemistry learning problems were grouped based on aspects of necessity, intelligibility, plausibility, and fruitfulness. Data were analyzed descriptively. The results of the study showed that the chemistry learning problems related to the aspect of necessity were that the teacher did not carry out the laboratory work and did not discuss the properties of the buffer solution. The problems related to aspects of intelligibility were the teacher asked successive questions, answered her own questions, gave wrong information, made unclear and wrong analogies, and did not ask student reasons. The problems related to the plausibility aspects were that the teacher had less emphasis on the importance of context and neglected the students’ alternative conceptions. The problems related to the fruitfulness aspects were that the teacher was less likely to provide complex problems especially with regard to the application of the buffer solution in everyday life. Students experienced misconceptions on some concepts of buffer solution.

Abstract

Human resources with  good characters are badly needed in a national development. Hence, developing characters, especially the development of characters based on local wisdom is highly needed. This study was part of a study of local culture-based Physics model of teaching at senior high school, i.e., the need analysis and conceptual model prototype stage. The subjects were 20 physics teachers  who had at least 10 years of teaching physics experience at public and private senior high schools in Singaraja, Bali. The study used questionnaire, observation guide, and interview as the instruments for collecting the data. The data were analyzed  by a descriptivequalitative analysis. The result showed that (1) Nine Balinese local wisdom-based characters could be developed in physics teaching; (2) The method that is appropriate for the local wisdom-based development of characters is inquiry from various perspectives, discussion, and demonstration; (3) The core procedure  of teaching that can develop the students’ character are exploration, focusing attention, inquiry from various perspectives (scientific, sociocultural, historical), elaboration, and confirmation.

Abstract

This study involving prospective science teachers at SMP aims to portray the ability of Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK) of the teachers via resource folios. Resource folios in question are the core and PaP-eRs made by the prospective science teachers when carrying out the “Program Pengalaman Lapangan” (PPL). The subjects were six candidates conducting PPL at a junior high school and were assigned by the class teachers to teach Grade VII. The instrument used as a means of collecting data in this research is the CoRe and PaP-eRs. The instrument has been analyzed using an analytical format. The result of CoRe and PaP-eRs analysis shows that the learning activities are carried out on the whole in accordance with lesson plans that have been rendered previously. However, the instruction plan is focused more on the CoRe content materials to be studied, while the narrative of learning implementation in the PaP-eRs is emphasized more on learning activities. The results show that the PCK ability of prospective teachers still do not show the integration between content capability and pedagogical ability.

Abstract

This study is aimed at describing the characteristics of basic physics concepts in materials of science literacy enrichment of natural and mineral resources (NMRs) prepared by students of Physics Education Department, Universitas Islam Negeri Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung. The method of data collection for scientific literacy ability of NMRs is obtained from the description of NMRs, results of describing the enrichment materials of NMRs process, the basic concepts of physics, and context as well as attitudes of students towards NMRs through paper enrichment materials. This study was conducted to 15 documents of  enrichment materials made by students. The study concluded that: (1) characteristics of students’ ability to describe the physics concepts in literacy enrichment materials NMRs show variation; (2) the ability of describing concept of fundamental physics in five NMRs groups being investigated shows a low gains. The study recommends that the application of material needs developing and teaching media literacy enrichment and physical sciences should have more contextual NMRs for secondary, high school and undergraduate students.

Abstract

The inquiry of science teaching aims to encourage the ability to think, work and be scientific and communicate as an important aspect of life skills. Inquiry learning with Green Learning Method (GeLeM) focuses on the ability to think, work and be scientific. The data collection was conducted in the Department of Integrated Science, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Universitas Negeri Semarang on the course of General Biology, even semester of the academic year 2016/2017. The results show that application of method “GeLeM” can increase the average of cognitive value, learning response and the ability of students’ Science Process Skill (SPS) in science learning especially biology in the material of the diversity of living creatures. Common biology lectures that use the method of Green Learning Method (GeLeM) can be collaborated with instilling conservation horizon on the students. The conclusion of this study is that Green Learning Method (GeLeM) can improve student cognitive result and science process skill in science learning. In addition, students are also able to find the concept that comes from the environment (nature), students can also love and care for the environment as a vehicle for learning.

Abstract

This research aims to: (1) produce conceptual attainment worksheet; (2) know concept understanding improvement; and (3) know science process skills improvement. This was a development research by using 4-D models (define, design, develop, and disseminate). The development product was tested in grade XI of SMA Negeri 1 Magelang with 20 students for limited test and 33 students for field test. The research produced worksheet based on validator’s score from language structure and design PA 96.97%, appropriate learning with conceptual attainment method PA 95.24%, and learning to improve science process skills PA 95%, in which all aspects got the best category. Almost students agreed to the worksheet with presentation 78% for limited test and 89% for field test. Conceptual understanding improvement based on normalized gain was 0.56 for limited test and 0.50 for field test. The improvement of science process skills wasn’t significant for all the test with range 0.1-0.3.

Abstract

This research aims to produce teaching and learning design to develop environmental literacy among students through project-based learning to internalize the Islamic values. The program was developed through research and development design with three phases: a preliminary study, development program, and feasibility studies. This research produces three characteristics of the teaching and learning programs i.e.: (a) Developing environmental literacy of students based on Islamic values by using project-based teaching and learning; b) Developing the main themes of ‘Green Living’ of which is divided into four sub-themes: ‘Save our water,’ ‘Save our Soil,’ ‘Use Eco-friendly Products’ and ‘Waste for Life’; c) Facilitating students to conduct learning activities, in order to develop scientific skills and environmental literacy. The design model was validated by experts’ judgment. The tests showed that this design is feasible to be used in courses. It is suggested that the theme be broadened to include other relevant themes with environmental issues. The study is recommended to be followed up with testing and implementation by integrating the themes in other relevant subjects.
