Abstract

Pancasila—as a representament, interpretant and object—facing a dillematic problem in connection to ideal and a utopiavalues that desired by the founding fathers and undesired activitiesin the real life. Pancasila—as an icon, index and symbol that oughtto give oportunity for other interpretation, so we do not fall into amonolitic interpretation that makes Pancasila become a trivialthing, as in New Era.  The power of Pancasila does not lay at themeaning that gave by political elite all, but it depends on allcommunity involvement to belong to Pancasila as a glorioustreasure of Indonesian nation that open to spirit and developmentof the age. Notonagoro is a Pancasila homo significandum for hisattempt to reinterprate national ideology philosophically. Abstract

In investigating the original cause of Pancasila, ProfessorNotonagoro involved the use of causality theory. Based on thecausality theory, Pancasila’s causa materialis originated fromtraditions, cultures and religions belonged to Indonesia. The traditionshere are in the sense of their relation to the social, economics, politics and state structure problems. But it is important to befirmed here that the traditions can be transformed into sila-silaPancasila even thought not at all.   Causa materialis of Pancasila originated from Indonesiancultures involve everything which was produced by human mindsuch as science, technology, economics, art, etc. Because of theunderstanding of culture are determined by the scientific point ofview, in this case, the local cultures of Indonesia which were takenas sila-sila Pancasila have not been explained here. In addition, causa materialis of Pancasila originated fromreligions can be expressed throughout the reality of Indonesian asreligious people who acknowledged the Great Unity of God. Thisdivinity principle tends to show that Indonesian people believe inGod. More than this, each Indonesian people believe in God on thebase of their religion and faith.

Abstract

According to Notonagoro, everything came from matter and spirit. All phenomena in the universe have material and final cause.Everything, including sciences, has deity background. Sciencesbase on reason, willing, intuition, inspiration, and revelation. Bothspeculative and empirical thought with their variation base on thecausal law, in order to take their useful for human life, withoutdepend the truth and reality on usefulness for life. In scientificdeveloping, Pancasila, therefore, is a guideline for sciences—humanities, social and natural sciences. Research and sciencesdeveloping in Indonesia ought to be based on and spirited byPancasila. It is very important for national education generally andspecially for high education according to the guideline of 1945National Constitution. As a basis of scientific point of view,Pancasila allow for scientists do not to adopt the position ofscience for the sake of science; but teleological, namely, theyought to priority the sciences for good life. Moreover, they oughtto care of the direct and pure task of sciences, namely, in order toget truth and reality.
