Abstract

This research examines the relationship between profitability and size of manufac¬turing companies for the period of 2000 to 2003. Two measures of profitability are em¬ployed: Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA margin); and earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT margin). The measure of firm size is the num¬ber of employees. The results are consistent with theories of firm size that specify trade-offs between economies of scale and organizational costs and with theories that ascribe certain competencies to firms that allow them to offset the advantages often ascribed to large firms such as economies of scale.Key Words:    Size, Profitabily, Economy of Scale, Organisational, Competency, and Critical resources

Abstract

The imminent situation faced by asylum seekers is a crucial factor in understanding their decision making process. This study has adopted Bronfenbrenner’s ecological model to map out the circumfix of influence affecting refugees in Yogyakarta. In particular, this study makes use of rational choice, social strain and migration theory to better understand individual choice. Through the scope of behavioural analysis, this study finds that asylum seekers arriving in Indonesia begin utilising legal avenues of refugee migration and resettlement to a third party state once their ecological setting became more stable.

Abstract

The study aims to analyze the level of agricultural sector efficiency and agricultural extension performance in Central Java. A stochastic production function is used to estimate the efficiency. Meanwhile, descriptive statistics was employed to assess the performance of agricultural extension. The result reveals that agricultural sectors; corn, rice, and vegetable, are considered to be less efficient. However, there is an opportunity to optimize the agricultural products by using production factors based only on the needs. Moreover, it is found that the respondents' perception of the agricultural extension performance is less optimum and the number of extension is not yet ideal. Keywords: Efficiency, stochastic frontier, performance, agricultural extension JEL Classification Numbers: C61, Q16.AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis tingkat efisiensi sektor pertanian dan kinerja penyuluh pertanian di Propinsi Jawa Tengah.

Abstract

AbstractTechnology in the globalization era is difficult to be avoided in daily life. This study aims to estimate the impact of technological growth on economic performance in Indonesia using a Total Factor Productivity (TFP) method. The results indicate that technological growth in Indonesia during 1981-2012 is 0.87 percent, contributes up to 30.48 percent to economic growth. The results of econometric analysis suggest that technological growth will increase not only economic growth but also the unemployment rate, implying that technological growth in Indonesia creates jobs destruction than jobs creation. Keywords: Technological growth, TFP, economic growth, unemployment rateJEL classification number: O11, O47AbstrakTeknologi di era globalisasi sulit untuk dihindarkan dalam kehidupan sehari-hari.
