Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of used paper composition on the mechanical properties and water resistance to the composite (used-paper, gypsum and PVA) expected a composite that has good flexural strength, good water resistance and has a lighter weight than current composites. The materials used in the test specimens are used paper, gypsum and PVA. This research was conducted at the Laboratory of Mechanical Engineering Materials Syiah Kuala University, the flexural testing using ASTM C473 to get the mechanical properties, a standard SNI 03-6434-2000 used to test the water resistance and methods of morphology (SEM photo) to study the structure of the composite. The results showed that 20 percent composites by the addition of filler material (used paper, PVA) to get flexural the value of 9,00 MPa, water resistance of 4,067 percent and have a good bond, mutual binding between the gypsum crystals with used paper fibers. The of all testing, composites with 20 percent adding filler material have lower weight get of 8.98 percent when compared with that sold products.

Abstract

Appliance of Heat Exchanger type 53 EA-1001 exist in company PT. Pupuk Iskandar Muda operate the time some long time is hence formed by coat of fouling, existence of fouling will lessen the hot coefesien transfer totally (U) to a point appliance planning reach the minimum price, this information is obtained to can to schedule for the periodic routine of sweeping as well as commutation of pipe of appliance of heat exchange which is improper used again by prediction is maximum gather  fouling at appliance of Heat Exchanger. Existence of fouling will lessen the final hot coeffesient transfer to a point planning, so that can be scheduled for by a routine treatment. Hot influence Coeffesient transfer totally ( U) to fluid flow speed, resulting height of stream speed. 8640 hour operate for at fouling factor 0,0082 (Rd) yield the volume fouling 0,0066 m3 need the treatment of age Heat Exchanger 27th year of gagging fouling at volume 63,585 m3. Stream emiting a stream is laminar with the value 950 Btu.ft3 / hr.lb.s energy and 1,46 times from missing energy in the situation without there is fouling.

Abstract

The amount of agricultural lands has been converted into residential land and industrial land since a lot of farmland in the mountains has been opened. Groundwater and river has been used to irrigate the agricultural lands. Farmers in the mountainous areas typically use his physical effort to get water from river to agricultural land. This causes inefficiency of working for farmers thus the agricultural productivity is not optimal. Owing the fact that agricultural land is far from the electricity resources (PLN) therefore a small capital farmer must use pump to irrigate their agricultural lands. Hence, farmers have to spend big amount of money to buy fuel to drive the agricultural pump engine. Thus, it is necessary to have a specific research on the availability of wind energy in order to mobilize the agricultural pump engine in the mountainous area. In this case, the authors have calculated and analyzed the potential of wind energy to drive the pump in the village of Sare, Aceh Besar. From the analysis it has been obtained that the average wind speed of 6,41 m/s with the diameter of rotor turbine about 3 meter result in 1005,26 watt of wind turbine power. This power can be used to power a 20 m head static pump, requiring 650 watt to provide irrigation for 19 hectare of agricultural land 7 hrs/day. HOMER and Epanet 2.2 software are used to conduct simulation for power system generation. The result of HOMER simulation shows the lowest NPC value of US$ 10.028 with the cost of energy (CoE) of USD 0.717 kWh. The system could produce electricity power in a year of 3.452 kWh and the working length of the generating power system is 15 years

Abstract

This research study drilling quality for polyester composites with glass fiber reinforcement and polyester composite with fiber reinforcement Biduri fruit due to the influence of cutting parameters. The test is performed with the variation of machining process parameters varying the diameter of the cutting tool 5 mm, 10 mm, 14 mm, and a cutting speed of 30 m/min, 60 m/min and 90 m/min which feeds the parameters fixed. The test material used is a composite material with glass fiber reinforcement and composite with natural fiber amplifier with a size of 150 mm x 50 mm x 20 mm. The process of making composites made using hand lay-up method. Test results greater tool shows, the better the quality of the resulting hole. Due to the use of a cutting tool diameter of 5 mm would result in a continuous rage so that it will stick to the cutting tool and can interfere with the cutting tool. Cutting speed, the cutting results, the greater the cutting speed, the better the results are also cutting. Because the higher the cutting speed, the resulting fury will be more and continuous so as not to interfere with the process of cutting.

Abstract

The economic development and population growth in Indonesia has been increasing rapidly. Most of the agricultural land converted into residential and industrial areas, while many farmers moved to a mountainous area. Farmers in mountainous agricultural area using existing sources of water in a small mountainous rivers to irrigate agricultural land, they use man power to lift water from a small river to agricultural land, it is highly ineffective in agricultural products. Farmers with adequate financial can use pumps for raising the water to agricultural land. But because it is far from the power source, pump can only work with the use of expensive fossil fuels. Therefore, to overcome this problem it is necessary to use a renewable energy source which is available in the area such as solar energy and wind or both of them. This research examines about the hybrid power plant (PLTH) of solar and wind energy to power the agriculture pump. The wind speed and solar radiation data is obtained from measurements by BMKG-SMPK-Plus Sare. The output power of the Photovoltaic is equal to 193 W with the exposure time of 5 hours/day, while the power output of the wind turbine is 459.84 W with a 3m blade diameter long and 7 hours/day blowing wind. The pump power was 558 W with a capacity of 20,160 liters/hour, it is used for 15 ha of agricultural area. Based on the analysis results, the proposed system will generate an initial investment cost of US$ 14.938 with power production equal to 3.210 kW/year.

Abstract

Indonesia is a tropical country with a relatively high air temperatures. Increasing the temperature of the air outside the building space will increase in temperature in the room due to the heat transfer. Increasing air temperatures will occur in the thermal discomfort in space, resulting in a decrease in the effectiveness of work in the room. Conditions the average room temperature in May-September, 2013 in Banda Aceh is 330C-350C between the hours 11:00-13:00 WIB. This temperature is outside the limits of thermal comfort standards. To improve work efficiency in a room, the air must be conditioned to meet the thermal comfort standard SNI mounting method as a simple means of heat exchangers. Especially in the room that do not use often like indoor halls, and other sports, for this case by using the air conditioning air conditioner is too large investment and operational costs. In this study assessed a replacement air conditioning system with cold air in the conditioned room. In this study there are 3 air conditioning systems made is the replacement of AC system with fresh air into the space conditions, with the replacement of the air conditioning system is cooled with water to the space conditioning and replacement of the air conditioning system with a cooled with ice to the room conditioning. A room temperature of approximately 400C-500C air conditioned with new replacement 150C temperature-200C so that within 2-3 hours the room temperature dropped to 200C-250C and RH around 55-60%. So that the level of thermal comfort including thermal comfort within.

Abstract

According of air pollution technology can be reduced by two methods: by using the Oceans method or Biosphere method. Oceans method known  a way that is burying CO2 in the deep of sea water of oceans. Biosphere method is known as the method of using natural and plant, namely by multiplying the trees in the neighborhood that will create air quality in the surrounding environment is increased. With this method made design research tool that room 1 and room 2 with dimensions of 50 cm x 50 cm x 100 cm with isolated condition. In the first room filled with gas emission vehicle for 60 minutes and then measured by a gas analyzer in order to determine the composition of vehicle exhaust emissions. Gas emissions of vehicles streamed into the room space 1and  2 by using a blower  through 3 pieces of flexible hoses. In room 2 vehicle emissions react with activated carbon and tree to absorbs CO2 from vehicle emissions, then for 60 minutes once for 5 hours of data taken and observed. Research results show, with the absorption of CO2 emission and method biosphere technology is very significant influence as evidenced from the graph of CO2 emission and absorption of O2 release to the environment. Variations trees greatly affect the ability of absorption of CO2 gas emissions and O2 release to the environment, also the effect of adding activated carbon additive affects the absorption process of the addition of CO2 emissions and the release of O2 into the environment with a total absorption of 60% CO2 and release O2 at 5.8%. Trees are able to absorb the most CO2 emissions in the period of the most rapid and release O2 is trambesi tree with a total absorption of 80% CO2 and the release of O2 by 7.2% with a time of 300 minutes with the absorption of 3.33 ppm. m2 / min.

Abstract

Heating furnace which has been used by farmers to boil salt feed water is a traditional wood-fired furnance that is very simple and very inefficient. Researchers have made several modifications to the furnace unit multi-pot configuration that can utilize waste heat in order to improve the efficiency of the furnace. Potential waste heat of exhaust gas can be used as preheater. The methodology used to asses the performance on the furnace in water boiling test method operating condition of the cold start, hot start, and simmer. The data obtained then analyzed, the result showed that the burning rate and fire power that occurred during the cooking procces of the operation conditions of the cold start, hot start, and simmer increase, but the thermal efficiency decrease. This indicates that increasing of combustion efficiency has not been able to be utilized to the maximum heat. Value of the thermal efficiency of the furnace is affected by the value of useful energy to heat the water in the pot and the amount of energy entry/energy of combustion.
