Abstract

This research is the study of library research which raised the criticism of al-Ghazālī against the muslim philosophers in Tahāfut al-Falāsifah. And in this paper there are two questions; first, what is the purpose of al-Ghazālī in writing the Tahāfut al-Falāsifah? Second, Is it true that this work is representation of the conflict between philosophy and dogma; between revelation and the ratio; or between orthodoxy and heterodoxy. By using historical and content analysis to elucidate the criticism of al-Ghazālī against the muslim philosophers in Tahāfut al-Falāsifah. Then, the results of this research are, first al-Ghazālī wrote the Tahafut to do contestation against epistemology philosophical superiority claims, which was directed to their conclusions, instead of questioning the validity of logic as philosophical reasoning methodology. Second, the critism of al-Ghazālī cannot be seen as a reaction of orthodoxy or dogma against the philosophy. He should be viewed as a muslim scholar who has an important role in the naturalization of greek philosophical tradition and its adaptation to the building of islamic thought.

Abstract

This paper describes the thought of Nasr Hamid Abu Zayd on the theory of interpretation/method of interpretation of the al-Qur’an, the discussion of which is the study of descriptive-analitif. In the method, Nasr Hamid seeks to reveal the meaning and significance (maghza) with the meaning of "unspeakable". Nasr Hamid distinguish these three terms. Meaning is what is represented by the text or in the sense that letting the text speak about himself. then from that meaning discussed with conditions / context that surrounds a reader. Therefore, the meaning of the static nature as it contains a textual-historical significance (historical meaning), and the dynamic nature of significance according to the horizon of each reader.

Abstract

The term Liberal Islam has long been developing. However, in defining many crisscrossing. Therefore, it is important to explore this term from the origin term source, ie of Western writers. This article will describe the two main sources of Liberal Islam discourse is often a reference and is regarded as bearers of Liberal Islam terms, those are“Islamic Liberalism: A Critique of Development Ideologies” by Leonard Binder and “ Liberal Islam: A Source Book” by Charles Kurzman et al. Searches through the two main sources above and compare it with some relevant sources can be concluded that the term Liberal Islam is meant by Binder are those which believed that no textual interpretation of the Qur'an, but the interpretation is based on the essence of the meanings, not what is written in the text. Search essential meaning, not textual that is considered to be able to adapt with the times. Meanwhile, according Kurzman Liberal Islam is that which has the first character, critical of Islam customs and Islamic traditions Revivalists which causes backwardness of Muslims. Second, the desire for progress by promoting the values of Islam which is in line with the values of Western liberalism such as democracy, economic progress, human rights, gender equality, and so on.

Abstract

This article describes on the neccesity of renewal Islamic theology within context of pluralism and multiculturalism society. One of the contemporary Muslim scholars, Fethullah Gulen, could be considered among the most influential Muslim theologians of our time. His work focus on redefining the nature of Islamic discourse in the contemporary world by doing interreligious and intercultural dialogue. Nowdays, we need to shift our paradigm from classical kalam which dogmatic, abstract, and exclusive to more practical theology based on contemporary life needs, which is called “social theology”. Gulen’s theological discourse distinguished for his support of democracy, humanism, openness to globalization, progressiveness in integrating tradition with modernity, and to make sense of pluralistic-piety.

Abstract

Indonesia is a pluralistic and multicultural nation. Mutliculturalism in Indonesia is characterized by the recognition of religious diversity. Therefore, differences are owned by Indonesia is a realistic conception that should continue in the wake and be empowered, as a reinforcement to the life and well-being for the people of Indonesia are harmonious and dynamic. The purpose of this study was to describe the strengthening of the values of pluralism and describe and understand the relationship pattern social conducted by the government, religious and community leaders in the prevention of the onset of horizontal conflict. This research was conducted with qualitative research using describtive approach, which describes the results of research appropriate to the purpose of research and followed by data analysis to obtain relevant and accurate data. Techniques of data collection are done by using literature review that support in answering this research problem. Horizontal conflict handling quite restrained and well. Aspects of tolerance have an important role of cooperation between the government and the religious leaders to support the acceleration of meaning and substance tolerance transformed into social life, so that conflicts can be avoided with a pattern horizontally comprehensively realization.
